Wasn't a classic at Manly yesterday but wasn't a bad game either
Same as last week from us, forcing a poor option way to often and too many turnovers
MMMs looked nothing like the side I saw at Merrylands earlier in year, not a bad team by any means but very little off the bench an the front row folded more times in this game than I have ever seen from a Marlins side
Missed the first try as I was getting a nomad, I don't think we ever looked like winning, on the back foot all o the first half until that line out on the bell
Started playing our style of game too late and game was out of reach by this point in 2nd half

Yes interesting game that one.
We had a 12 playing 10, and a 6 playing 12, so the back line didn't sing like it did in the first half you saw earlier in the year.
It was a really odd game, with a heap of stop and start in the second half, kept starting conversations with the continual stoppages - it was hard to watch.

Instead of playing to the whistle we kick the ball out right on oranges hoping it was the break, we clock early off and leak a meat pie. under the sticks.

Then an odd line out move in our own 22 we pass the ball to the Wests 9 and he scurries away untouched and it's a 6 point game.

Gordon have backed there Colts progression to be competitive a tad too early.

Hopefully lessons learnt from this year and continued progression of a strong Colts system prove fruitful sooner rather than later.

Feel like a lower grade resurgence will come first though as always with these things you need a committed board and luckily I think Gordon have that.

And well deserved too --- Wicks out-played, out-enthused, out-thought and out-scored in all grades. Lucky to pick up BPs in 4s and 1s.

Both sides went into 1sts without key players and the Rats lost Angus after just a few minutes and then also lost his replacement (Arnold), both to head knocks. Mark Gerard came off the bench to replace Arnold after playing half of 2nd grade. Was this his first game back from retirement?
Gerard played some time in the 2's before coming on in the 1's, pretty sure it's his first appearance this year for the Rats.

I like to watch

David Codey (61)

Yep, he replaced Loselli (also for a head knock) late in first 1/2 of 2's.
So he played plenty of footy, in his first game of the year.
The local paper reported that he was keen to play v Marlins this week if selected.
It would be the Rugby equivalent of munchausen by proxy not to select him:)

Should be good crowds at the Village Green and Coogee Oval if the weather is OK.

Perhaps NSW Premiership Rugby should look manipulating the draw to produce a Rivalry Round (with a return fixture during the second "lap" of the draw):
It goes without saying that this would be Rats v MMM, Gordon v Norths, Randi-Wix v Beasties, & Anyone v The Corporation.

Are the other "big" local derbies Pirates v Hobbits, M2B v Emu (or Pirates?)?

Who would the Woodies claim as their traditional enemy for a rivalry round?

Back in the 22 round years they used to have Local Derby rounds. We hated it because we always got lumped with Penrith. It was obviously based on geography rather than any genuine rivalry.

We have long said our preference for a rivalry round would be against Eastwood or Randwick. However, Eastwood's preference I believe is with Gordon so to state the glaringly obvious, each club has it's own preference. Doing it geographically was probably the only logical way they do it, but it might not have necessarily generated the best rivalries. If that makes sense.

Funny that most clubs when given the choice would consider that the Wix or Gordon would be their traditional rival. More recently The Corporation have taken the mantle of the club everyone wants to "hate"/beat.
As the Woodies are currently "unallocated" in Hugh's list, you can have them.

So in my fertile imagination it will be Rats v MMM, Gordon v Norths, Randi-Wix v Beasties, M2B v Woodies, Pirates v Hobbbits, leaving Emus v The Corporation to round out the round. I think most folk would like to see a pretty full gate at their home oval based on that.

I like those rounds HJ.

Marlins lead Rats 22-0 after 24 mins. Angus Gardiner with the whistle - first ref to pick up that the Manly 8 sling shots into scrums. Has been doing it all year and no other ref has noticed. Warned and then a free kick.

Rats steady the ship - Malins 22-5 at half time.

Rats score again for 22-12.

Rats have their tails up and Manly have a been noticeably tiring in the lat quarter in their matches this year. This isn't over yet.
