Will be interesting to see what becomes of Perry - part of me feels he will be one of those players that come close to cracking the Super Rugby but never will. I believe his move to Sydney was purely for personal reasons i.e he is a nsw boy that came to Canberra (Canberra isn't his home-town). Vikings are missing him this year with depth in the 7 jersey somewhat struggling.

He is a great player and always rated him very highly and hope he gets selected for the NRC and goes on to higher honors...

My thoughts on Perry coming back to Canberra are premised on the Brumbies' need to find a No 7 for 2017. Poey won't be here, and despite the claims of a lot of posters here, Butler is not a 7, and in any case atm he is the starting No 8. If not Perry, who? Certainly not the No 7s listed above - Hodgson, McMahon, Gill or Hooper. Maybe Penca or another 7 now in the JID comp, but if Perry is going comfortably in SS then he would be worth consideration.

Thought Perry did well against Randwick. I noticed him more as a ball pilferer and a cover defender than a ball runner like Poey & Hooper.

Colby Fainga'a - maybe back in town?

Also Wells is playing great rugby for the Whites at the moment - he is a contracted Brumbies player and an out n out 7.

Everybody wanting to pinch the Rebels Sevens. Jordy and Sean contracted for 2017, Colby for 2018.

Well there are some pretty outstanding opensides in the SS comp. Best endowed position I'd guess ..

Cohen Masson (EWD) , Will Miller (NTH) , Sean Doyle (STH) , Kotoni Ale/ Harry Bergelin (MNL), Rowan Perry (ES) , Mark Baldwin (RW), David Hickey (UNI), Boyd Killingworth (WGH),

Killingworth would also be a good pickup. Often best on ground for the Rats imo, and he has shown he can adapt to different styles and fitness requirements in the 7s as well.

Ale needs more time back from his injury I believe, and Bergelin is really a 6 not a 7. Masson would still be finding his feet at SS level, wouldn't he? Miller looked the goods in the NRC and could make the grade at Super Rugby, Doyle was cut from the Brumbies iirc.

Wells just might be the answer but he also looked more like a 6 than a 7 to me, but I haven't seen him play for the Whites, so fingers crossed he can help fill the void being left by Pocock next year.

This may have been covered previously, so why is the SS ringfenced from promotion/relegation? It used to happen.

Wells is nowhere near a 7. I can't believe anyone would suggest it. Same goes for Bergelin. Bergelin is a great player and would have been a better deal than Wells at the Brumbies. Miller should go play league. Right build and a great ball runner for his size. Perry has nice hair. Baldwin is a solid, reliable, good player. Killing worth needs to keep his mouth guard in - he's always chomping it halfway out of his mouth. I rate Masson. He was great against Manly. Easts 7 last year was one of the best pilferers around. But he's nowhere to be seen. Kotoni is ok. Agree, despite all that, there is a lot of talent.

Must apologise for getting the discussion off the main topic of the SS. No more about the Brumbies' No 7 from me on this thread. Sorry.

Where do you think Wells is best suited?

As mentioned been outstanding for the Whites this year - one of the standout players in the comp.

Alex Ross (28)
8 or 6. He is good at club level but not up to Super standard IMO. I'd much prefer to see Bergelin get a crack. More athletic and tougher.

Rohan Saifoloi looked very good at times playing No 10 last year, but this year seems to have shifted to 12. How is he going?

We seem to have a real thing in Aus rugby of picking smallish, slowish No 10s who favour a passing game almost to the exclusion of attacking the line themselves. Some examples imo are McIntyre for the Reds and Deegan for the Wix. Also, Mason in the U20s looks to be much the same. Saifoloi offered a lot more I thought. He had the ability to take the line on himself as well as setting up outside players. Not as good, but somewhat in the mould of Sopoaga at the Highlanders.

Thanks for the team lists Hugh.
Kotoni Ale picked for his first starting role for Manly 1sts since his horrendous injury last year. Played in the second half v Warringah last week.
Now that's determination. Only a few players would back up after what he went through.
