Shute Shield 2020

The Honey Badger

Does anyone know what the deal will be with crowds?

From UNI:

With the latest news from the NSW government regarding major recreation facilities, the Sydney University Football Ground will only be able to hold between 500-600 people.
TICKETING
SUFC members will be given first priority for tickets from Wednesday to Monday prior to each home game. As of Tuesday, tickets will be on general sale and based on first come first serve until capacity is reached. You will not be able to purchase tickets at the gate.

A look at Uni First grade.

Any trial results??

Newcastle 45 - 7 Penrith.
In the earlier colts and "second grade" games, Newcastle were successful in winning 71-0 and 24-0 respectively.

Probably not a reflection of how Newcastle will perform against other quality opposition in the Shute Shield, so still very interested to see how they'll go. Could be a long competition for Penrith.

That’s not a good result. I wouldn’t expect Newcastle to be stronger than anyone except maybe Parra.

A couple of colts 1s scores I heard were Easts over Uni, and Gordon over Rats (about 5 tries to 1) in a very fiery encounter,

Top story in the SMH. Beasties in a spot.

Looked like there were a few to watch Manly / Souths as well - looks like (correctly) a lot of people want to watch club rugby this year.
1. The Beasties: sounds like sour grapes from a disgruntled local who doesn't like the club's DA. Bloody robber-iners are anti Australian!
2. Manly crowd - the club organised for the approved 1700 crowd to get free tickets, accessed from their web site in the days leading up to the game. Didn't go so can't speak about what happened on the day.

Yep, certainly going to be a long season for Penrith if that's any true indication of where they're at

Was at Manly Oval - was very well handled.
Having a number of vantage spots enabled it to be possible.
Was a good day.

Looked pretty clear from the photos that no social distancing was being practiced at Woollahra --- especially on the balcony.
Same problem at the NRL once they reverted to home venues --- big cluster of people all sitting together at the half way line.
If that happens at the SS this weekend I'm worried we're going to be forced back to no crowds, especially now that there are new outbreaks in Sydney.
