Subbies 2021

I am assuming Rugby Union will be called off this week?

We can't have people driving around with their life at risk etc through what is happening in the world. There are bigger issues than the Kentwell Cup.

Apparently there was meant to be an update from the Premier/CHO at 3PM or shortly thereafter.

Then it will be a case of waiting for update from NSW Health > NSW Sport > NSW Rugby > Subbies > clubs...

Games going ahead with some restrictions in place - masks being the big one for anyone not in the playing field, basically.

DIVISION 4
Oatley v Oysters - waaaaay too much. Interested to see if Oatley's forfeits last week were a blip.
Saints v Renegades - it'll be tough but gotta back the boys - need this win to get back into 4th.
Savers v Canterbury - men in black to take it comfortably.
Redfield v Mac Uni - it'll be clean, honest rugby, but Redfield have too much for the beacons.

DIVISION 5
Sea Lice v Dukes - the lice missed out narrowly to Irish last week and will be hungry for a big win
Merrylands v Hammerheads - Burraneer nearly had Menai and face another big challenge at Holroyd.
Balmain v Irish - Irish have some good momentum at the moment and will be looking to capitalise before hosting Merrylands next week.
Menai v Forces - the vets are starting to get low on personnel due to injury and duties. It'll be a big score.

DIVISION 6
Maccabi v Wakehurst - ladder leaders to take it, despite the travel.
Kings v Chatswood - Kings back at the school will make for an interesting time against the Stags, who have been inconsistent.
Covies v Brothers - can't tip an upset here, as Brothers are rampant at the moment.

Division 3 Round 10

Blacktown vs Raptors

1sts: Raptors by a lot
2nds: Raptors by a lot
colts: Blacktown by 3

Seems like raptors colts are back in action this week, that'll be a great game to watch as Blacktown colts have been steadily improving all year. Probably will get ugly in the grade games.

Hawkesbury Valley vs Briars

1sts: Valley by 14
2nds: Valley by 17
3rds: Valley by 17

Valley only getting stronger, interesting to note that this fixture has been moved to the 2nd field at Blacktown's home ground, good festival of rugby if you're heading down there. 1st grade will be a good matchup to follow, 1st vs 2nd in fact.

HAC vs Beecroft

1sts: Beecroft by 17
2nds: Beecroft by 24
colts: HAC forfeit
3rds: Beecroft by 45+

Very disappointing last week for Beecroft against Valley with poor player numbers coming back to bite them against a club that deserved a lot more respect. They'll need to use this fixture to get back on track otherwise things could get ugly fast. Respect to HAC I see a lot of players playing multiple grade games with a lot of these players in the colts age group, must be tough.

Sydney Harlequins vs Old Ignatians

1sts: Quins by 1
2nds: Iggies by 3
colts: Beasties by 1
3rds: Iggies by 5

What a clash this is turning out to be, all games very close to call. Expect to see running rugby and epic clashes across all grades.

Guessing with the latest restrictions ie anyone who has worked in the city is on lockdown, subbies will be rethinking running games this weekend

Correct - Subbies announced in the last hour that no rugby will go ahead this weekend. Decision on Abandoned vs Postponed TBA once they get some time to look at it.

Shute Shield pulled the pin earlier today.

Enjoy your weekend off, troops!

Would be a shame if the season was turfed at this point, tho having to run under COVID restrictions like last year would very much suck.

OTOH, not having to stress about running our last 2 home games is definitely a plus :)

I'd like to think they'd avoid cancelling the season at all costs.

Can you imagine how much harder it will be to get rego's out of people next year when "the season might get cancelled again"...

Excellent point. Worth noting tho that the annual costs to the club are unlikely to change.

---

Obviously the health guidelines that emerge later next week will be the guide, but as July 10th was wet weather week for everyone, I don't think there will be any rugby that day anyway; with no training allowed it'll be much like last year, in that clubs won't want to go in cold.

Email today saying the next iteration of the Subbies Womens 7s due for 10th July is cancelled. Bummer.

The board has confirmed that the earliest possible start date is July 17th if health advice allows it.

Well the news today must be the end of the season.

No training or games for 6 weeks would cause blokes to need a couple of weeks training before any restart and that starts to push us out to mid Aug. Subbies need to make a decision now.

Can't make a decision unless you know when lockdown is going to end. Simply cutting the season off at the knees would be a shame if we can still get in a couple of weeks with a shortened finals series.

The issue is going to be ground availability.

There must be some hope.

I would say we have until September 4th to get back on. Any saturdays prior to this day will just be an extra round. The competition could play the last two games (September 4th and 11th) which provides a nice even number of 10 competition games played for most grades. This means not everyone will play each other twice, but that is the fate of the year.

This would leave us with finals on the 18th and 25th of September. I would assume that all of these covid delays will also effect cricket pre season so they may also enjoy a later start.
