Re. The Shoremen. Randwick must have smashed their capacity to play as well as the scoreline. Northern have gone down to Eastwood and Manly, neither game close, since being walloped by Wicks.
Does anyone from the Shore have an explanation for their mid season crash and any suggestions about why it will not be a crash and burn?

I heard from one of the Norths parents their colties are carrying a fairly high injury load - but isn't everyone? They must have some good depth as they defeated Woodies 2nd and 3rd grade, just not 1s.

it was a good win by the Marlins, and always good to get down to manly oval. It's been a long time, but nice to get there on a Friday night. Manly have some good talent but really need to pull up some of their players, both sideline and on field. The player who stomped to norths 9 off the ball need a long time on the sideline, and the club should stand him down. The players cheering him on after seeing, should be ashamed. The club wants to get back to being the club I remember from the 80's then there needs to be better leadership.

Good to see a few regular Colts players given the opportunity to play Grade at Chatswood Oval last night:
O'Shae - Uni made his First Grade debut at fly half
Wilkinson - Gordon 1st Grade Hooker
Dillon - Gordon 2nd Grade Prop
Smerdon - Gordon 2nd Grade fly half
Well done lads.

Well said. I thought Wilkinson has done an outstanding job as a player to step and give it to the students. Has a great future ahead of him.

Will Davies and Yassmin also played 1st grade for Uni I think?

Will Davies and Yassmin also played 1st grade for Uni I think?
Not according to The Corporation's team sheet on Rugby Link. They even list Matt Sandell as playing. He is in Italy with the Aust U20s:D and played last night.

Is there an injury crisis at The Corporation with so many colts playing up, or were they over confident and thought they could rest their front line backs and get the kids to do the job against lowly Gordon?

How did the young blokes go?

I see that O'Shea scored a meat pie on First Grade debut for the Corporation against the M2B last week. Pretty impressive effort for a 18 year old. Footage of it on the Rugby News Game highlights package. It doesn't seem to want to embed on here.

http://www.rugbynews.net.au/students-strike-late-to-beat-two-blues/

Pretty sure that is him scoring at the 0:43 second mark in the highlights reel above from Rugby News.

Well said, also Kurtis Quinn having a run in first grade straight back from injury, in place of his injured brother in fact. Great showing of the depth in the Gordon colts this year filling in for a heavily injured Gordon grade outfit.

With Colts players stepping up to play grade i think shows how good the colts comp is and i think the ARU has a great product that the NSWRU should do more to help clubs take to a higher level. I know at Souths they have had 7 of last years 1st colts side play in 1st grade this year and 2 of the current 1st colts have had serious game time in 1st grade.
Players are now bigger and stronger and good skill levels so moving into grade is no longer a problem or a risk.
The clubs who have really embraced there Colts programs are really reaping the benefits.

Re your point above I respectfully disagree. A lot of Gordon's colts who have been reasonably competitive at Colts level have experienced some game time throughout all grades due to Gordon's injury problems.

Quite a few of them received injuries due to the physical nature and not being battle hardened.

Not to say they won't be ready in a few years time though.

Early suggestions for the weekend.
Sadly my young bloke is unable to play so I will be checking in for results.
In the close games I have gone for home advantage
Randwick over Uni in a close one - up the students!
Northern over Warringah - Northern getting back into a winning feel
Gordon over Easts - Tartan to run away in last 20
Eastwood over Southern - no confidence at all in calling this.
Manly over Parramatta
West Harbour over Penrith in 2nd Grade

5/6 in Round 11 tips with the Woodies upsetting all but their faithful with their stunning belting of the Shoremen.

Round 12 tips
Northern Suburbs v Warringah. Shoremen were uncharacteristically beaten, nay thrashed, by the Woodies before the break. With Jack back at 10, the Red and Black will have an opposed training run on the back ovals at North Sydney as they cruise to a 50 point victory.

Eastern Suburbs v Gordon. Beasties finally performed as tipped in round 11, but the Highlanders will be keen to keep pace on the ladder with the Shoremen and should comfortably win by 20 points with a 4T bonus point.

Eastwood v Southern Districts. This will be a great clash between equals with the vital 6th place on the ladder at stake. The Woodies will feel that there was some unfinished business after their recent clash at Forshaw Park and will be out to square the ledger bouyed by their recent success over the Shoremen. The Hobbits are a team that can grind out a win and I reckon that they will do likewise at TG Milner in a rather scruffy victory by 7-12 points.

Parramatta v Manly. Manly stunned many tipsters with their very convincing win over the Shoremen under lights at The Village Green in their deferred game, and should be able to carry that form into this game where they will win by 10-20 points.

Sydney University v Randwick. Game of the Round. It was a heavy weight clash last time with BuildCorp prevailing by 2 points. Both mobs will fancy their chances of winning the return clash, and I'm tipping that there will be cheese from the Ref over breakdown infringements and repeated offsides from both teams. These teams are so close in relative strengths that any tip has an equal chance of being wrong, so I'm going left field for a > 15 point victory for BuildCorp.

West Harbour v The Bye. Pirates will get the 4T Bonus Point scoring precisely 28 points along the way.

I like to watch

David Codey (61)
Norths will beat the Rats in a canter despite a decidly 2nd rate effort against Manly with Jack back.
Gordon will have a bonus point win against Easts.
I'm tipping the Woods v Souths, solely because they have home ground advantage.
I think Manly should win this easily, but as they consistently dumbfound me that means Parra will win in a scrappy game.

Wicks have more depth than Uni I reckon, and that will get them home.

Eastwood v Southern - preview

@ TG Milner

Colts 3 - 6th Place

The loss to Norths sees Colts 3 drop one place with this week's opposition moving ahead of them by three points. The competition is tight with West Harbour on the same points as Eastwood, Eastern Suburbs one point back while Manly and Parramatta are a further three points back.

Eastwood have not won since Round 7 and need to get their season back on track this weekend or risk dropping out of the race for the last two final places. A loss could see them drop to 9th depending on other results. A win over Southern Districts is very attainable after a narrow four points loss last time and would lift them into 5th place. With the competition so tight both sides will be wanting to earn the five points on offer and it should be an intense clash to get things under-way at Millner.

Colts 2 - 7th Place

Colts 2 have dropped out of the six after going down to Northern Suburbs. They did manage to secure a bonus point by scoring four tries, which could prove useful as the season progresses. Southern Districts moved ahead after they defeated West Harbour. Eastern Suburbs sits in 5th just two points ahead of Eastwood while Penrith sit just two points behind then and West Harbour a further two points back.

With six points separating 5th from 9th each game is becoming vital. Eastwood will have the confidence of their recent victory over Southern Districts and their solid showing against the strong Norths side. As with Colts 3 both sides need this win and will be out to take the points. A loss by Eastern Suburbs, who have a tough encounter with Gordon, will see the winner of the Eastwood and Souths clash take 5th spot. Should Eastwood lose the winner of the Penrith and West Harbour match could move ahead of Eastwood depending on bonus points.

Colts 1 - 7th Place

The middle of the ladder remains a tight affair with both Eastwood and Manly beating Northern Suburbs in the last two weeks. Manly have jumped ahead of Eastwood and Southern Districts into fifth spot six points behind Norths and Gordon. Eastwood and Southern Districts are one point behind Manly with Eastern Suburbs another point back in 8th place.

The continuation of the momentum built up in the last two matches is needed, as we head towards the finals. After they stormed home in Round 10 to fall just short Eastwood know they can beat Souths this weekend – as do the Rebels. The task will be made more difficult with Rohan Zebib and Joshua Nohra away playing for Lebanon.

Eastwood have struggled with consistency and have not put two wins together since Round 7. Now is the time to get back to back wins and start a winning streak heading into the final six rounds.
