So I got 0 from 4 in our division - Convicts, Irish, Draw (missed a kick at the death), Raptors (BIG margin there).

Meldrum Cup I missed Chatswood but Wakehurst had 3 yellow cards.

Jeffrey Cup I'm 2 from 4 - Kings getting up in a close one.

Some interest results. Does anyone have a report on the St Pats vs Bobs game? Big boilover. I saw Pats had 3 Shute shield players that were playing up to last year including a Catchpole winner.

BOBs came home with 19 unanswered points so was a good win for them.

Div 2
Wheres Tommy Tudehope when you need him? Redfield Old Boys hopefully had a wedding that had 50 of their players unavailable, if not they are in for a short, sharp ugly 7 weeks. No 4th grade, forefeited 3rd grade and their 2nds got pumped 69-0. A 2nd grade Scoreline like that suggests the team was made up of exhausted colts and a couple of club men from the lower grades doing there best. Will watch next weeks results against Hills with interest.

Div 3
Looks like Clark Cup is going to be a great battle with scorelines all suggesting tight battles. Blacktown took some drubbing in the lower grades so either Iggies are red hot or Blacktown are struggling for numbers. But all grades got a game which is a great to see and a superb initiative having Easts 4th colts playing for the Quinns for the rest of the season.
The Breakers welcomed the Harlequins to Div 3 with 4 hard fought victories in the battle of Waterloo. Apparently Harlequins 1sts had been beaten for 18 months so an even better result for Newport.

Bring on Div1 games next week.

Dukes 1s were on the wrong side of the ref for a solid 75% of the game, 14 men for 20 mins, a penalty try (which while technically he was correct, it could be debated that a penalty was sufficient) and a questionable (at best) try for the Convicts in the corner where our player held up the Convicts player (and came away with the ball before the whistle was blown to call time off!). The ref asked for guidance from the touchy (Convicts of course) who said it was a try...what can you do I suppose...

At the end of the day though, we have to take the game into our own hands rather than leaving it in the hands of the others, be they in the opposition jersey or an official's jersey. I think (hope...) this has woken up the player group though that they won't be handed a win just by putting on a jersey and it has to be earned 100%.

All in all though a good day for the club as we fielded 3 official grades for the first time ever so everyone at the club is happy with how things are coming together, now just a matter of fixing the on field stuff!

Did the 2nd Grade ref stick around to AR for you? They did at Lyne Park - I had forgotten they did that.

Well done to Bobs on the win I think it’s the first time we have beaten St Pats in 1st grade!

Very impressed that St Pats can attract the quality of players they do!

Not sure I've seen a subbies team treat rugby with the complete and utter disdain that Manly Savers do...

Down 7-0, take 3... down 14-3, take 3.., 14-6, why not take another 3. Ending up getting beat 22-19 despite scoriung 3 tries to 2, so I guess good on them...

Honestly, spirit of the game fellas, come on. Its been a long long time since I've seen that even in divs 1-3 of subbies.

I'm not from there, but logically wouldn't you just not give away penalties in kicking range....the infringements probably stopped try scoring opportunities....

ahh, if only we'd have thought of that on Saturday. don't give away penalties.

My point is in even higher levels of what is still very much social rugby, I have very seldom seen teams take 3 points at every single opportunity like they're playing test rugby.

I guess its the English thing.

You on the angry pills heavyb? What is the standard like compared to higher div's?

Just need to make new enemies.

Hard to say after 1 competition game. Savers kicked 4 penalties and 1 of their 2 tries off was a rolling maul. They kicked and kicked and kicked, great set piece. it was like nothing in the last few years div 3 comp anyway with teams like Redfield and even Iggies and Newport who are young and play a fairly attractive brand. Felt like a bunch of older blokes who probably at one stage or another had played a fairly high level based on their style anyway...

We should have won the game having led for most of it, but of course I'd say that.

Certainly when we played Savers the last few seasons they were more expansive, but they also identified our wider channels were filled with players not of First Grade quality. They've also beaten us at the death 13-10 with a drop goal in horrendous windy conditions. They're adaptable.

Isn't this one of the positive features of rugby that teams use their strengths (set piece, goal kicking in this example) to create the best plan to win a game?

You must be fun at parties...

Just saying we're not playing for sheep stations. I've never seen a subbies team take 3 at 11 points down until Saturday. To its credit, even professional rugby in the northern hemisphere seems to have graduated out of this malaise.

Probably the only thing I agree with that lunatic bandanna wearing socialist Peter Fitzsimons on - Penalties should only be worth 2 points.

I don't think anyone is involved in the game at this level to watch goalkicking practice.

I remember winning a game at Porters 17-16 when you blokes kicked 3 penalties. Certainly backfired that day.

Subbies teams defences are generally not that crash hot, I reckon you're better off going for it to be honest.

I know I breathe a sigh of relief when teams stop attacking.
