Hills absolutely butchered their 1st Grade game with an extremely high error rate gifting the game to Hornsby

TBF Hornsby have a very good first grade squad, and seem to have most of them back on the park after what looked like a disrupted year.

I was surprised they didn't finish higher tbh, and they'll give Beecroft a real fight in the most important game of the year

My personal opinion is that Petersham need to win the top 2 games to be considered for promotion at this point.

Yes, Petersham are club champions, but they haven't had the lower grade depth in a competition that was designed to give all but 2 teams the chance at premierships. That, for me, is a missed opportunity. As much as it pains me to say having an affinity for them as neighbours (kinda), Petersham have been the top club this season in many ways, but UNSW have been right on their tail when behind them AND miles ahead of them in 3s and 4s.

UNSW are the team I believe should go up assuming they don't s*** the bed on Saturday. Look at their performance top to bottom - EVERY grade made finals and only 1 grade (ironically, their lowest) missed the Grand Final. If you want to look at a club that will be competitive in Div One, where you'll need to field an extra side, you have to look at a team with 5 already strong teams ready to go.

The only thing that will hurt them on Saturday is that they have to field 60 fresh players in consecutive games - are they going to have any fresh reserves that wouldn't be starting in a lower grade? It's an odd situation for sure, but that comes down to Club Championships points multipliers rather than any perceived gulf in performance.
For a club that got the spoon in their first year in division two, and won the club champs by the barest of margins in their second year, Petersham seem very confident to want to go up.

If it only took Newport and Lindfield a year or two to come back down to earth it will take Petersham one trip to the mountains to regret their decision. Good luck to them they deserve the opportunity.

Interesting to see Newport promoting there games tonight as an opportunity to jump Lindfield and stay in Div 1. Id have thought they’d want to go back to Div 2 after the year they’ve had.

When a club moves higher it is generally off the back of sustained Premierships. That Premiership glory also means a lot of older players take the opportunity to retire. So the challenge for clubs going up DIVs is how do you keep players that got you there playing when you get there. Thats the eternal challenge.

Good luck tonight Heavy D. Hope the boys finish on a high after a tough year but you guys have kept on showing up. Credit to both you and Lindfield for not forfeiting all year.

Surely Newport cannot be serious.

1st grade 2/14.
2nd grade 1/14.
3rd grade 1/13.
4th grade 1/13.

Another year like this could see them drop from Div 1 to even Div 3. Strong colts but grade struggling, dropping 2 divisions. I've heard this story before...

I'm not taking a dig at Newport. I hope their graduating colts stick come through to grade next year, but I'm just slightly concerned for the club. If they believe they have the resources and the challenge for next year, back yourself.

No doubt, Newport were in 3/3 GFs and won two of them before going up to Div one. very worth of having a crack.

Lindfield had a dominant year club wide before going up.

I wonder if the players at Petersham are keen to go up, after only just beating Irish on the weekend. Or is it just a bunch of old boys pushing hard for this?

Newport would be fine in Division 2. Happened to my club BOBS back in the day. Dominated div 2 from 1sts to colts and came last in Div 1 the following year in the club champs. Big step up.

The big difference in DIV 1 is 3s and particularly 4s aren’t the old blokes running around like in DIV 2. As I think I saw someone comment the likes of Mosman, Colleagues & Waverley all run these grades with fit mid 20s type players. In 2nd DIV the lower grade demographics are a decade older.
