Sydney Subbies 2025

FNC Rugby

out of interest Ref Ted, what is the cashola that refs in subbies get paid? hope its decent? Also what would be a stepup game for a subbies ref? ie subbies rep team / kentwell final etc?
I know in my association we get $25 if we are referee and $15 if we AR a game. Pretty poor for the abuse we cop and the distance we travel. My daughter umpires some AFL and get $60 a game, can do up to 5 games across the weekend. (she is 14)

Is it time to change the rule that if you change venues (as in straight swap) the return fixture gets changed as well? Rather then leave it up to the clubs.
Though I suppose it would be tough if you’d made plans for a big day like ladies day on the return fixture
It’s a tough one as alot of clubs have mapped out their home events pre season so would be reluctant to hand over say sponsors day or reunion day. It’s literally just in the hands of the weather gods. You either are blessed or cursed.

For smaller clubs, ground availability becomes an issue. I share with Rugby League so in all likelihood I wouldn't have the option.

This NSW rugby tv needs to improve. They need to learn to zoom otherwise it’s useless.
Has been raised previously but it's hard with single camera

Zoom in to see the action better and the coaches hate you because they can't review lines and structure

Zoom out to please the coaches and people watching hate you because they can't see the action

No win situation unfortunately and it's better than nothing

What’s the reason for burraneer seniors and burraneer colts being different clubs? Are the colts aligned with their juniors?
I don't know the why, but Sydney Irish has no colts, so the Burraneer colts fill that gap in the schedule for Div 2.

I was at Latham today, and Burraneer join the Irish tunnel and visa versa, so clearly they are forming some bonds being scheduled together.

Some big results today and plenty of questions. Early days but -

1) What happened at Rawson apart from a whale wash?
2) Crisis time for the dirty reds?
3) Big win for the students against Irish.
4) Tough welcome for Blacktown to Div 3
5) Are Norths going to topple Hornsby in Joy Johnson?
6) Can Sydney Harbour raise another trophy?

Plenty love to sink the boot into Subbies but how good is grass roots rugby

In short: no, they are not aligned.

This is one of those classic cases of a Junior club having a Senior Arm who didn't see eye to eye. Remember, junior clubs operate under SJRU, while senior clubs operate under NSWSRU (Subbies), and therefore in most cases I'm aware of, they are separate entities from a legal and administrative point of view.

Without going into detail, sometimes there are differences of opinion that lead to antagonistic behaviour, and there is a split of some sort.

Burraneer Hammerheads - Subbies - exist because of such issues stemming from within Burraneer Dolphins - Juniors.

Georges River Rugby exists because of such issues stemming from within Oatley.

I'm not aware of anything particularly sordid, beyond disagreements that moved beyond the ability for all parties to come to a reasonable resolution.

1- Think we are seeing where Newport stands and could be some tough weeks against some of the heavy weights of the division.
2- They will struggle to get off the bottom of the CC table if things don’t change. There next 5 weeks are diabolical against the comp heavy weights.
3- This could finally be UNSW year after years of being in the final picture. Probably the only Div 2 club ready to go up.
4- 2 weeks against the bottom half of the comp will help but could be a long year given they have to play the top end of town 3 times.
5- Great outcome for the womens game!
6- How do Subbies keep letting these guys run over the lower divisions.

I’ll add another one to the list.
- Dominant performance by Hunters against Mountains at Lapstone stamps there authority in the comp.

I’m not so sure… apparently colts were pipped at the line and a 10 point loss in Kentwell away for a first time Div 1 club seems respectable. Agreed it’s going to be a learning curve and who enjoys playing at Porters!! Nothing worse for opposition in my experience. HeavyD ??
