Sydney Subbies 2025

Div 1 has been completely blown out of the park this year, the tight competition has been derailed by an unstoppable Hunters Hill team. Seemingly going under the radar in this chat with a huge bolstering of recruits.

At this stage you can ask the question, are they ready for Shute Shield? Some chat coming out of the Hunters Camp is that they want their second grade to play 1s.

Good luck to them I say.

I’m surprised so many clubs played on Saturday. With the exception of Div 2 most seemed to get on the park, with Div 1 dropping only the lower grades. A lot of clubs may be breathing easy they don’t have to reschedule so late in the season.

Maybe that’s the solution to the Divisional structure. Get Hunters Hill to fill multiple slots in Div 1 1st Grade and then the Lindfields and Newports can play 2nd Grade down.

It's part of the reason a wet weather weekend was put the week prior to finals. While it creates some problems it solves a major one: catch up games.

Chatswood last year had to play 3 games in a week. Not exactly endearing for player safety

Div 2 will be made up on Wet Weather Weekend, 23rd of August most likely. Would normally not be a problem for me except for one small detail: I'm getting married the day before. Oops.

Surely Subbies arent allowing dual registration between two clubs in Subbies? Didnt this happen between Cantebury and UNSW a while ago and ended up in lost points?
I am unsure of the logistics/back end of the arranagement, but I think it is good subbies have adapted and allowed things like this to happen, particularly on weeks that clubs like Us and Pats have been short it has definitely helped.

Div 3 Colts Knox vs. Hornsby - Round Preview

This one’s shaping up as a big day out for Knox colts. The forward pack is massive - their big boys sound excited to pack it down to dance at scrum time, with locks and loosies who look like they’ve been living in the gym since Christmas. The backs I’ve heard along the grape vine are all fresh back from their mid-season “Europe tour,” accompanied by the biggest halfback in the comp.

Hornsby rolls in with their usual contest and grit, but let’s be honest - grit doesn’t help much when you’re staring down 900 kilos of premium Knobs wagyu beef. Expect them to throw the kitchen sink early before fading when the Knox maul starts rolling and the scoreboard gets ugly.

Prediction: Knox by 30+, and that’s if the subs don’t start early.

P.S. Word on the street is Knox already has one eye on finals - still filthy about last time they had 14 men on Knox 1 and got done by Iggies. Now the boys are back from holiday, the squad’s loaded, and they can’t wait to flog the Where’s Wally look-alikes.

Are Knox concerned that if Lane Cove get up on the weekend they have to play 3rd place in a do or die final? Could see them out the back door if the boys back from Europe are just focused on Land Cove/Iggies.

No idea what the Knox old boys' elite coaching staff are thinking, but the stats don't lie. Stats look like they are calling a spade a spade.

R1 -
Knox vs BOB: 41-0 to Knox (vs current number 3)

R2 -
Knox vs LC: 40-19 to Knox

R6-
Knox vs BOB: 68-0 (vs current number 3), thus 109 unanswered points this season by some premium big boys from the north shore.

R7-
Knox vs LC: 28-15 to Knox

Knox must be wary that rugby is a fickle game. It's a game where you must love and nurture your fine-tuned skills, or they could get away from you. Mr 2nd I agree with your comment that the boys returning with their mild alcohol and ciggy addictions need to focus on the job ahead instead of the candy cane dress-up party over at Lane Cove.

Excited for the matchup up as Lane cove sit at the top.

Having watched the replay it is quite evident that Knox started the game with 15, there were no yellow cards recorded on Fuse, and at Iggies' last try with 15 minutes to go, there were 15 Knox players under the posts. Not sure if you can't count or are trying to push a narrative...

Word out of the lions den up at Mark Taylor oval is the Hornsby colts are fired up after taking a big scalp in Barker last round and are ready to take down fellow local rivals Knox. Word on the grapevine is that the boys are planning a more evasive game plan based on speed, fitness and a little bit of fire from the ladies day crowd. They have been on an intermittent fasting regime to prepare themselves for the size of the corned beef Knox pack and have some sort of fruit based dish ready for desert as well.

That is, if the game even goes ahead… didn’t Knox forfeit their last home game? Maybe their 14 (+1) man loss the week before rattled them. Hope the boys didn’t spend all their cash over in Europe and can afford a good spade to dig in and get a team together.

Out of interest, where are Hornsby getting their Colts from? Would be great if it was the local public High Schools / Hornsby juniors.

Petersham and Uni for the chocolates this week in club champs this weekend in Div two. It all comes down to the first grade fixture. Who wins?
Hope no one played on Camperdown oval last week otherwise the field will be like razor blades on the weekend when it dries out.

Petersham to take it for me, UNSW have dropped the ball far to often this year when they could have run away with it.

Hills to take the minor premiership as well in 1st Grade after player shortages starting to bite at Beecroft. Tipping Hills to take home the trophies in 1s, 2s and Halligans. Seems to be a misstep from Subbies not having them in Division 2 this year.

Give me Petersham with home ground advantage in 1s, 2s and Colts. 3s a draw and 4s to UNSW in a canter. Does make the final wet weather weekend a danger game though - both clubs will be 1 or 2 so not a lot to play for in that final week as far as the ladder but the club championship points will be crucial in all grades. A slip up to St Pat's or Forest in the final round isn't likely on form but both clubs capable of an upset.
