Dear Two Blues Supporters

The Two Blues on field season has come to an end while the performance of First Grade, on the surface, would suggest it was a poor season, this was a very young team of mostly local juniors, that we have great expectations of in the future. Our team scored four tries in 15 out of 18 games and lost by less than seven on 5 occasions which shows great attacking flair, but highlights the inexperience in defence – something to focus on for next season. Other season highlights include:

  • Tanquele Naiyaravoro joining Tatafu Polota-Nau in the Wallabies squad for the Rugby Championship
  • Adam Coleman selected in the Wallaby Train on squad
  • Steve Mafi named Captain of Tonga for the Pacific Nations Cup
  • Evan Olmstead earning his first cap for Canada in the PNC (Pacific Nations Cup)
  • Nita Maynard, Chloe Butler and Hannah Sio continuing in the Wallaroos
  • Our inaugural under 18’s making the semi finals
  • Second Grade and 1St Grade Colts finishing seventh, just outside the semi finals

In off field news, the board conducted a mid-year review which led to a restructure that is now complete. Subsequently, we will have a new look Grade coaching structure next season led by Paul Hardwick and Greg Michel. Former Wallaby Jeremy Paul will also join our structure along with several other unit specialists. We are excited about the new look structure.

Finally, we’ve been selected as an ARU Viva Sevens centre, a new initiative targeting school children to introduce them to rugby. The comp will kick off in October.

Our presentation night will be Friday September 4th at Merrylands RSL, an invitation will be on Facebook shortly, we hope you can join us.

We look forward to your continued support as we work toward becoming a Powerhouse in Australian Rugby.

Hardwick and Michell are the coaches.

Purely from an outsiders perspective not sure what to make of the appointment as they are not that well known.

Parra did well when Christini brought a lot of players with him hopefully Hardwick and Michell can network some of St Pats finest as some good players have played at the club over the last few seasons.

We'll be right. It's a good appointment. Thanks for your concern

watched the boys play in the FIshers Ghosts Sevens on the weekend.weather was very wet and slippery. They did really well

We defiantly have some speed this year.

A mention to forward Aaron Blacklock caught the ball on the fly from a kickoff and sprinted half field for a try. Impressive for a big fella in the wet.

I think if anyone was in front of him trying to stop him they would still be trying to get up. He wasn't stopping for no man. We'll done mate

I didn't make it out there - hear the conditions were bad, and the team that won consisted of a number of leaguies - hope this is a new process in converting them to rugby.

Get in front of a TV (with Fox Sports on it) at 4:05* pm this afternoon for the GF of the Sydney Club 7's.

Should be a bloody ripper of a match.

*Tweet in error, later corrected.

And we ended up with the Pulveriser taking over the timeslot....................

Fox could have played the game delayed, instead of the live Veronicas concert.

People watch rugby to see rugby. When there is a pause in the rugby, put some rugby on.

Sadly the two Blues were horrid in the final so maybe a good thing it wasn't shown. The wicks had some pace and carved the tbs up from start to finish.

I was watching at the local club with the sound turned down so I couldn't hear what the talking heads were saying but I'm absolutely certain that great supporter of club rugby, Bill Pulver, would have asked them why they weren't showing the final

The Firsts/Seconds squad is off the Canberra to trial against Uni Norths tomorrow. Meanwhile 3/4's, Colts and Womens teams are sprucing up Merrylands RSL Park ready for the new season. 9-12 with a free sausage sizzle for the hungry workers.

A Club Working Bee with a sausage sanger to finish. Grass Roots rugby at its best, ... ... ... as it should be.

Has the council done anything to improve the dilapidated state of the roof on the clubhouse?

Mrs Wazza is shocked that I'm getting out of bed early on a Saturday to lend a hand.

She did make a comment of , " With the amount of time you are going to spend there over the coming months you may as well help make it look nice"

Love her logic.
