I disagree with the comments RE the lack of talent in Australian Rugby. Rather, it's poor development and coaching across the board. There is no way Ireland has a greater talent pool—case in point - Mac Hansen. He was hardly a world-beater at the Brums, but given the right development and proper system(s), he is one of world rugby's best wingers. The vast majority of Irish players come from a handful of schools - not too dissimilar to our catchment. I'm not condoning this narrow selection, but rather, it shows that it is possible to develop talent even as a minor sport.
David Nuicifora has built an incredibly effective development system, has maximized returns with a small pool of players & enhanced the nation's overall depth ten-fold. He is the genius that Australian rugby don't deserve. His achievements with Ireland will almost certainly endure longer than anything Eddie has overseen...

The Carter Gordon only experiment is officially a failure. Not on him BTW and hope he can recover and is not thrown on the scrap heap.
What does that have to do with throwing Morne Steyn in with Dan Carter and Jonny Wilkinson

Blasphemous

Surely, securing his services is the number 1 priority for RA going forward. I know that would assume some level of rationality on their behalf...

It has been said on numerous occasions in these forii that he has definitely declined to have anything to do with the Wallabies - and this is from interviews with him not just people on GAGR making stuff up

Who wouldn't want to leave an incredibly successful posting having helped turn Ireland into the best team in the world to work with a bunch of blazer wearing dickheads who are quickly turning Australia into a tier 2 nation?

Can't think of a single reason he wouldn't be interested - and that's before you take into consideration his own history here.

Structure of other countries is pretty irrelevant to what is happening in Australia. Not having to compete with league and Aussie rules would fix every single problem but with those continuing to seperate and be even more dominant the future is very grim, with the set-ups outside of elite private schools very difficult to cut through to any talent outside the system. Throwing names up good because it does seem RA is willing to compete financially however hard to see one person ever fixing things, at least they are trying through planned centralisation model, but at the end of the day extremely difficult to improve in elite level sport

Nucifora is apparently not interested...

*At this stage... RA will be wretched & desperate after Australia crashes out in the quarters... so wouldn't rule it out entirely.

"We're in market at the moment for a director of high performance, so we're going through an interview process.. we've spoken to him [Nucifora] because he's sort of a friend of Australian rugby, in terms of whether he has an appetite for that role, that is a question for David.

"But he's been in the system in Ireland for a long time and I think he's enjoying being back with less pressure, and less work time and travel. As I said he's a friend of Australian rugby, he's happy to help us, but currently not in the mix."

It is understood that if Nucifora did show an interest in leading the high-performance program, RA would consider him a strong candidate to the role he filled under a vastly different set of circumstances more than a decade ago.
