Wallabies 2023

3) In what circumstances can Rugby Australia opt out before the end of the 5 years? I can only assume they have some kind of clause which allows them to pay-out a portion of his remaining contract after a certain date if the results aren't up to scratch.
I'm not sure Eddie would agree to something like that. His approach would be 'we'll negotiate that if and when the time comes'.

Positive statement number 345:

Eddie knows how to beat Cheika in any way possible. Therefore, the Wallabies won't lose against the Argies again. That guarantees you at least a third place in next Rugby Championships

I will say, in the media release, I don't like the comment about Eddie being so highly regarded because he 'knows the Australian way to play rugby'

It's a good way to alienate any future coaches who might come from outside Oz. Especially when the 'Australian way' isn't very defined.

Who will be Eddie's pick for captain...?

If he follows the England route it'll be Latu.

This just proves Rugby Australia is just a bunch of old boomers pining for the glory days of the 90's but have absolutely no idea what they're doing. Such reactionary irresponsible decision-making, always looking for a cop-out, and to inject another temporary miracle fix.

So typically short-sighted from Rugby Australia.

Eddie has a track record of tearing everything down, I agree there's no chance he will last his contract, Jones will be what 69? at 2027 World Cup? Rugby Australia is just as big an old-boy's club as NZR... hire their 60 year old boomer mate due to the nostalgia of the glory years they lived-out with him.

Just see out Rennie's contract, then come 2024, a fresh optimistic young Razor would've proved a revitalizing breath of oxygen into the parched lungs of the ailing vestiges of Australian rugby - instead of employing an old negative crusty has-been to only accelerate the aging process!
Our only real glory days came from an unwanted coach with zero international experience. I think this is a gutless, spineless short-sighted, overspending decision and I'm a boomer. BUT we will go well in this years RWC, then the shit will start, young players will be ignored as he has no history of developing talent, and the team will soon lose interest in his rants and ravings.

Nor very successful in the last 20 years.

Marce he is a coach, not a god and he still has to play with the players available to him. We should beat the Argies but 'should' has come unstuck before.

I never said he's a god. I said that he knows how to beat Cheika's teams, it's a fact. He has beaten Cheika in any way I can remember, Cheika only won the last game after years.

Agree with the thoughts of Brumbieman posted above. This decision ought to be a cause for optimism for everyone in this forum. Jones is a proven international coach with an outstanding record at that level. Not only do I expect Jones to bring technical and strategic improvements to the Wallabies side, Jones will also get the public and the media in this country talking about rugby again - that, in itself, is priceless.

Yep, it's not difficult to envisage that happening, the team might experience a temporary lift in 2023 - as we witnessed under Cheika at 2015 World Cup, but Eddie's approach won't likely be sustainable in the long-term and will eventually become detrimental.

Question is does Jones retain McKellar & Fisher? I can't see scrum coach Du Plessis staying, he was Rennie's appointment.

And the Wallabies are still needing a specialist back's coach, does anyone know what Todd Louden is doing these days??

Hopefully McKellar goes too. Maybe Richard Cockerill will come with Eddie to do scrum. Louden would be a risk but he is a very good Attack Coach. He'd be good as Eddie will call the shots and make sure he stays in his lane. But don't be surprised to see Wisey back. He and Eddie are great mates and work well together.

Did he run over your cat or something?

A RWC win with the Boks, coaching Japan to knock of the Boks at a RWC, 18 straight test wins right out of the gate with England a few months after they didn’t even make it out of their pool in a home RWC, two series wins away against the Wallabies, a RWC final with England and a 74% win ratio and you think he’s an old ‘has-been’ ?

You must be a Queenslander, everyone else around the world would’ve killed to hire him, especially with a WC just around the corner.

I just put 2k on us to win at 12-1. We have an incredibly easy draw, he’s been planning for this WC for the last few years, and now instead of him trying to knock us out, we get his unparalleled knowledge of our own weaknesses that he can use immediately to rectify, as well as intimate knowledge of England’s strengths and weaknesses.
They are likely our only difficult game before the final against France, who we came within a bee’s dick of beating at home with nearly two entire match day squads out injured.

Board the train you muppet, we’ll win it this year, and with the Lions in 2 years, then a home World Cup, the future is looking bright.

As long as you pull your head out of a 16yo dark cavity just below your spine.
Yeah, why I dont think Rennie should have gone, bringing in one of the top international coaches in the world, who has a track record of going well at world cups isn't that bad of a deal.

Its done now lets get behind fast Eddie!!!!
