Wallabies 2025

When did Kellaway ever have strong D?

It's usually been a feature of his game, and he prevented a few try scoring attempts by the Brumbies on the weekend...

There was a spring tour match a couple of years back when he was filling in at outside centre and the Wallabies had a man down and he was making all the right decisions.

We've all watched Grealy. He's a good player and gone well for the Force at times but he's way down the list of Wallaby aspirants at this stage.

Wright, JAS, Daugunu, Potter, Jorgenson, Pietsch, Kellaway, Campbell, Lancaster would all be in front of him. Then you have guys like Toole who catch your'e eye but have flaws. He's in the next group of guys who need to show it for a bit longer like Ryan.

Even Beale was on the cusp of a call up last year and got the start for the Force on the weekend gone.

I think this tells you all you need to know about our FB stakes.

Kellaway has many talents, but I wouldn't describe his defense as strong, or even good.

For what it's worth, because missed tackle stats =/= defence, but he currently 4th worst stats in Super Rugby

This could be a bit of a strech but i wouldn't mind seeing Langi Gleeson penciled into the starting team, would be hard to choose a backrower to swtich him out for but he has been an absoulte work horse for the Tahs, his power and agression proving dominant over most defenses. Obviously, with him going overseas Joe schmit may not see him as a long term option and may choose to develop and pursue other talent but some may argue his current form is a must have going into the lions tour.

16 misses out of 40 is not good. Thus my thought that his Wallaby days are behind him if he doesn't lift. I suspect Kurtley Beale would have similar stats as his D has never been strong.

Gleeson is too short to be in a backrow with Fraser and Bobby V. If Joe listens to Shiggins and co, it'll be given they want the Hobbit from the West to start at 7.

Either way, Gleeson in the backrow means we only have 2 / 2.5 jumpers.
Agreed. He would need to replace Bobby V and that’s not gonna happen.
Hooper, Gleeson and Uru all fighting for that loose bench. Bloody solid depth!

I do wonder if that's the snowball effect of him being on the end of defensive problems across the Tahs' backline, particularly with their centres?

Similar to the Wobs' issues last year with Paisami at inside centre.

But also 2 top draw line bending ball runners.

Good point Slim, and I thought the same thing, but then he missed a couple of one-on-ones and I figured his day could be done. Been an excellent FB for the Wallabies.
