Wallabies 2025

What do we think the odds are on Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) resigning with RA? Gotta be decent and if your RA you 'd be tempted to put a decent offer on the table. He seems to have genuine interest the world cup and his good form warrants a good offer. Plus, much like JAS, it wouldnt hurt to sign another player who leagies are now familiar with to draw more press and eyeballs from the public / press. Worth the investment.

Rooster will probably offer him a 5 or 6 year contract, which might be too good to pass up.

League doesn’t tend to value their wingers too highly. Can’t afford to tie up too much of your salary cap with a winger. However he’s certainly doing his best to put himself in the frame for a big increase.

Hopefully a home World Cup is enough to entice him.

Bringing Nawaqanitawase back on a big-money deal sets a dangerous precedent. While I’d love to see him in Wallabies colours again, doing it this way could encourage more young players to leave Union for League, knowing they can be lured back with inflated contracts.

In my opinion, the better pathway for his return would be through Rugby 360 or via an overseas club—something that doesn’t risk destabilising the current player landscape.

Id reckon it would actually be a great look if we had one of the nrls best backs converting back to play in a home world cup. Pretty unique circumstance too so i cant see it setting a bad precedent. Plus RA needs to do anything they can to win in 2027

He’s been the BEST NRL winger this year .. (not that they’ll ever admit it ..)

heck they changed the NRL rules cause of him , otherwise he was a shoe in for rookie of the year

Alright so not taking anything away from Mark because he has done some ELECTRIC stuff with the ball in hand, but objectively he has made multiple defensive errors and he looked a little clueless every now and then. Toia will win rookie of the year, even if the NRL didn't change the rules.

With Toole playing pretty well and guys like Reilly in the queue - will he make that much of a difference?
My fear is that once you become a mungo, you always have that bit of mungo in you. ( JAS aside).

JAS aside, and also Manly's Tom Wright, and Ikitau who played league until he was 16, like JOC (James O'Connor), and obviously Jorgensen who played a fair bit as a youngster etc etc

Ultimately it’s his value though.

I watch very little league these days - simply because I don’t have time to watch much tv so when I do it is normally rugby. Maybe I just got him in a good night last night. But he was exceptional.

I think your central point is where possible spend money on the talent within the system. Largely I agree with that - but I don’t think it’s a good strategy to turn our back on every player who didn’t make us their first choice.

I personally would rather they spend money elsewhere. He’s a solid winger (exceptional in the air) but we’re well covered with wingers. If you could get him back with the carrot of playing RWC rather than the cheque book than I would be happy. Id rather us spend the money on getting some of these kids back into our system from France.

Biggest issue with Nawaqanitawase at the moment might be where he ends up - with the tahs well stocked on outside backs and Potter signed through to 27, he'll likely need one of Kellaway or Jorgo to move on to make room (unless the rumour about Sua'ali'i moving is true). If that's Kellaway then it's a solid outcome but it's pretty zero sun if it's Jorgo especially if he ends up lost to the game. A decent chunk of the money saved from Kellaway leaving may also be necessary to keep Jorgo around so he might not be enough.

If he's open to other teams it becomes much more workable, though it might be a case of teams looking to spend big on an outside back deciding between a million dollars for Nawaqanitawase or 600k for Petaia which makes it a hard bargain.

If RA thinks we have wing well covered as you say i agree, but i wouldnt say we have so many world class finishers that he wouldnt be an asset come the world cup. Jorgo goes down with an injury and we're looking decidedly less dangerous out wide imo. You mention his ariel skills - that is one area of the game where we are constantly dog shit.

This squad that schidt is building is starting to look like it could at least be in with a shot in 2027. If there is any way we could add any world class players with test experience to the roster its a worthwhile investment from my perspective.

Ultimately the RA will make a commercial decision but i wouldnt be penny pinching.

How many people argued that RA shouldnt have signed JAS for $1.5 mil a year. Theyv easily got a return on that investment in more ways than one.

Yeah it would come down to the figures. He can only really play wing (JAS and max can play multiple positions) so again I don’t want to pay overs. And as someone mentioned an issue would be trying to fit him in the tahs list or move him to the brumbs or force. Id be more supportive of getting Gordon back because he gives you a different option at flyhalf and can cover centre and fullback.
I do agree Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) wouldn’t hurt a wallabies squad and the publicity would pay for itself. Just don’t like the principle of paying overs to a winger

Why did they change the rules mid season then lol ??

He could come onto the wing when somebody has the vision to try Jorgensen at 10.
