Wallabies v England November 1

Pretty sure it's still figuratively
TBF, literally does mean figuratively now.

Been so for years. The dictionaries gave up and rewrote their definitions.

Bizarre Schmidt has left out Pietsch

He certainly has his favourites - Robertson, Nasser, Edmed, Potter, Stewart, guys I wouldn’t have in the squad
Is it really that bizarre?

when fit, Potter has been 1st choice on a wing all season and was rested last week with the other certain starters. Fully expected to come back this week particularly with how comfortable he is under the highball

Yep Potter clearly picked to defuse the bombs which will be coming.

England don’t look that strong in the lineout, would have loved to see Swain start and pick them off.

Can’t see us getting close though, we are building better depth but you cant expect to take out Ikitau/Hooper/Skelton/Wright/McDermott and beat a top 5 side

I’m ok with this #10 situation. Personally I think Donno should have been taken on tour, but he wasn’t. The three 10s are Edmed, JOC (James O'Connor) and Gordon. They knew JOC (James O'Connor) wouldn’t be available this weekend and it’s more important to get Gordon’s quad right than bust it further. These are the exact scenarios teams have to work around during a RWC where a new player can’t come in. Edmed will be penned in to play 70 minutes, if he has to come off earlier they will go to their plan B, just like England will have to if they get a couple of injuries in the backs.

Dictionaries just document how words are actually used by people, they are not guardians of language and they certainly don't "change the definition" of words as that BBC article states. If people commonly use literally to mean figuratively, then a good dictionary reports that.

I'm not completely sold on Potter, I don't think he's quite up to it at this level in many ways. I don't like how he always tries a little kick through when he gets to the edge, for example, it's one dimensional, rarely works in Australia's benefit, and if prefer him to take contact and recycle posession more often. But he is good in the air, much better in the air than Toole for example, even Peitsch. Which will probably be useful against England.

There was an interview with Schmidt on Ch9 just now and they asked how C Gordon was going - ‘he’s going super, been recalibrating, will see him sooner rather than later, has had a little niggle but ran at 96% on Tuesday and we think he’s right to go’. Maybe Doran has got this one wrong?

I hope so, but from the bench.....

Did he really say 96%??

If as rumoured, the Roar goes bust, and Christie is out of a job, I genuinely wonder what any of us will talk about most of the time

I think people are getting too wound up over the lack of a 10 on the bench. It's not like we are playing our whole game through the 10 so the idea that Stewart couldn't fill in that role where you're required to defend, make a limited number of passes like everyone in the backline and some kicking doesn't wash for me.

With Carter Gordon close to playing and O'Connor being available for tests 3-5 I don't see a major reason to fly in an emergency 10 to join the squad.
