Wallabies v Japan 25 Oct

The CDC thing is interesting - I know captains can vary between national and state level but this has really thrown me.
Just as the occasional bail out option given he has good catch-pass credentials. By no means am I saying it’s a strong backline, just not as bad as some here believe. I probably said the same thing before Italy though so who tf knows.

It's at least takes a bit more advantage of combos (Force in the backrow, Reds in the centre and front row, tahs in the halves) than Rennies Italy side, but I'd really like one more game breaker (McReight, Jorgo or Sua'ali'i from the guys available) on the bench for emergencies, or a 6/2 to let us really hammer them in the pack.
i have trouble placing Fraser McReight in the 'game breaker' category along with Jorgenson & Sua'ali'i

I really don't like CDC being captain and Wilson on the bench. This is the 6th captain of the Schmidt era

It seems weird to have Wilson on the bench given he's been captain for the last 14 months, all the other key players have been rested.

Start him as captain, in a team with not a lot of leadership, but maybe don't plan for him to do huge minutes.

I notice that Japan still have Michael Leitch playing.
Great player in his day, but shouldn't he be staying at home, looking after the grandchildreno_O

Different ways but all 3 have the ability to turn games on their own and do things the Japanese would largely find unplayable. Fraiser would be particularly useful if we're looking at holding onto a slim lead with 20 to go.

Ideally though it would be McDermott, it's a real pity he's injured because the way he has played this year he'd basically be a get out of jail free card on the bench.

So C Gordon gets his cobweb blowout against England then?
Hoping he'll replicate JAS.

He'll come off the bench with 20 to go and throw the most incredible cut out ball that will be intercepted by Freeman for a 60m run away.

We will then all say he should've played v Japan and the fact he can even throw a pass that far makes him better than anyone we have and that's why Donaldson should be playing Fullback and EJ (Eddie Jones) in 2023 really fucked us.

Whenever he gets on the ball to effect a turnover he's changing the momentum of the game. Whenever he provides a link in attack he's helping to maintain possession. He does this for 80mins. It's not a jarring hit or line break or bend the line moment that sticks in your head, but make no mistake, he is constantly affecting the game. Opposition teams know this and plan for it.

Schmidt has talked about how dangerous the Italians will be, so he will probably put his best team out against them to ensure we dont stuff up again and give the team a run before they take on England.

I read this as saying the Italy game is a warm up for England. England is before Italy.
