I don't imagine WR (World Rugby) would take kindly to cutting the Sunwolves as we stretch toward a Japanese RWC.

I don't think WR (World Rugby) would really have a problem with it, the Japanese league is more valuable than the Sunwolves. Keeping the company teams happy is more beneficial to the Japanese Rugby board.

I love the Moondogs but having a SANZAAR tournament made up of the SANZAAR nations makes sense.

Will make the Hagyouwahrehs' task a bit harder relative to the rest of the comp but overall a lot better.

Why is this arbitration decision taking so long? There were only 2 days of arguments. Is the arbitrator paid by the day?

I'm pretty comfortable if it takes a few days extra. After all, its a big decision and I imagine (hope/expect) the arbitrator is making sure the points of law are considered and locked away, one by one.

I'm really hoping that the decision is so well considered that it is water-tight against any appeal, so any appeal is dismissed quickly and we can just move on.

Don't think that the number of teams will make any difference.

Super rugby is now completely disconnected from so many rugby followers, I doubt there is any way back.

If we're not careful, the Wallabies will also be enveloped by the tsunami.

....on the subject of disconnection I heard a concerning comment the other day from two different sources that there is unlikely to be a Gen Blue U 20's squad selected for 2018 due to cost reasons but there will be an U19 squad. What that means for feeder pathways into the Tahs is anyone's guess...

There's no Super 20s next year, so it doesn't really make sense for there to be a 20s.

Australia is going to the Kiwi model of U19s in the NRC period, rather than U20s in preseason. It's probably a good move, but it's cruel to the top age U20s in 2018.

Thought there was some discussion of not doing Super U20. But was confirmed as a goer.

In any case, isn't there a world U20 championship in Argentina in 2018?

Surly you need the best U20 playing the best in order to make that selection.

It means that they've run out of money and in the way the ARU/NSWRU et al operate, they've cobbled something together without much forethought.

I thought the Japanese stumped up a fair bit of cash to get into super rugby. Can't imagine them going without getting that back, at least in part. I also can't see our SANZAAR partners agreeing to chip in to cover it. This scenario could be as costly to us as any other.

What if we formed a six team conference with the other two fielding 5. The draw could be made to work. It would also mean we grow a closer relationship with Japan which could be important in the future.

Well, Scrub, if the ARU are so adamant about not going into the "Red" then maybe there's a team towards the north that should exit?

BR, there is actually a certain logic, if a cut must be made, making it NSW or Qld. But the politics are unlikely when the ARU, NSWRU and QRU are self supporting.

I remain of the view "better off with 5", sort the draw and properly promote. But if one must go, and NSW/Qld are off the board, an amalgamation of Melbourne/ACT is surely something to consider.

If we can't have 5, I quite like the idea of cutting NSW, sinking the funds into SS on the proviso that they align effectively with NRC, properly involve the West. And use this a build toward a possible Plan B.

But it's a non-sensical dream that won't happen.

Practical use are with current Force strength, Melbourne-ACT will be considered or they return to SANZAR tail between legs, with 5, Pulver and Clyne exiting quietly stage left.

I have a firm preference on these two options and it doesn't involve the Brumbies.

Well if they have been warned that they need to improve or they are out, their contract must have some exit clauses in case it did not work out.

I would not be surprised if the company teams want out, I would actually expect they do. The Sunwolves has not worked, Japanese international's don't want to play for them, than the foreign squad members would be lucky to make a starting line up elsewhere.

The two home grounds has been a failure, playing the Blues in 42 degree heat was a joke that should never have been allowed happen.

Look at Mafi, he turned down a contract with them to stay with the Rebels even though we finished last.
