Great to see the names of some boys who have come from regional areas such as Central and northern Queensland, shows there is still pathways outside of Brisbane and GPS

Last game of the round and realistically only two games matter and I will come to that last. Congrats to all boys on a great season it has been a blast watching some of the skills of the young men.

GPS v Easts I think GPS will get up at home on there last game GPS by 12

Norths V Bond Bond have steadily improved during the course of the year and should account for the eagles who IMHO subject to boys returning are only a couple of boys away from being a contender next year.

Logan V Sunnybank Probably Logans last game in colts one and it ill be a butt kicking. With the senior teams still not getting there shit together I don't see Logan being allowed to continue next year. All that being said the Saints have less than nothing to play for and will get smashed by 50.

West V Brothers This should be a cracker as it is for the minor premiership. Brothers have been consistently excellent all year and Wests are coming home with a wet sail. Both teams will play again next week. I am tipping a boilover with Wests to win by 7 at home on old boys day to take the premiership and set up a couple of grudge matches in the finals.

Souths V UQ Finals come a week early to Chipsey Wood for both of these Colts programs. The winner goes on and the loser has a Mad Monday next week. At the start of the year you would have gotten big odds that UQ would as low as 5th and Souths in 4th coming onto the last round. That having been said I think this week will be a game to far for Souths who have not beaten anyone in the top 5. I expect UQ to win by 7 in a game that could go either way. The colts two game should also be interesting as both Souths and UQ are playing for the double chance next week

De Flavis from GPS must be some chance, surely?

As for Emosi Tuquiri, has he even played a Colts game for Jeeps?

Emosi playing U18's league this year as far as I'm aware, but wouldn't surprise me to see him down at Jeeps next year as he doesn't turn 18 until October.

Not just having a go at you Galloper but I always love watching these threads when it comes to pick rep teams everyone reverts back to club allegiances.

So far we have had someone advocate for a Colts 2 player from Brothers. and Emosi from GPS

Emosi has played a game for GPS last week. He is a nice kid but frankly if he gets picked it would be as bad as when he was picked for the QLD 7's team last year. A complete joke on the boys who love and have played the game all year some of whom have excelled.

If you want to know where the teams will be picked from look at which clubs the coaches come from.

Boys if you want to exercise your brains put up a list of boys who will not play in finals this year who have been good in poor teams.

I actually see west’s and Souths front row being more dominant. Koorts lacks mobility which I think players such as Cotton, Fourie, Van Nek and Malolua are much better in.
You are right Steve. I let name recognition get in the way of fact. In my defence, I had a ? after Koorts name because I wasn't sure if the name matched the player who came off the bench in the games I had seen. I've asked someone wiser than me and it was Bell I was referring too. Siggs, Bell, Usher and Lovelock are the 4 brothers front rowers I think should be there. I agree re Fourie, Cotton and Malolua.

Yep - my bad re Koorts.
De Flavis is the standout of players not playing finals who should be in one of the teams and I'd have him as a starting 5/8.

No worries.

As you will have seen though, there's more than a few people unconnected with Jeeps who also rate De Flavis highly, and in my view he would go well regardless of the club he was playing at.

As for Emosi, I was pointing out that he'd be a ridiculous selection this year but I'd still love to see him give rugby another crack. He's lost 15-20 kg since leaving school (around 120 kg when I last saw him) and went pretty well at the schoolboy nationals last year at age 16 playing against much older opponents in the front row.

A couple of other lads to add to the mix that will be there or there a bouts
Victor Tualima Sunnybank, Harry Webster Easts, Finn Mounsey and Mitch Wood Wests.
Is Jeral Skelton still playing at Brothers?

Who are the good players from Bond? I didn’t get to see them play but apart from a hiding by Brothers (and who didn’t cop that) and Sunnybank, they’ve pushed or beaten the top 5 teams. Are there some players there that aren’t flashy but do some good hard work? Apart from Connors and Dowd.

The winger from Wests with head gear and wheels would look good on the end of a good backline. The centre from Souths (Sol) runs great lines and defends strongly. He would be a better option as a genuine centre reserve ahead of the 12 from Wests who plays as a second pivot. There are some good 10's around. The Colts 2 flyhalf from Wests has some qualities that would set him ahead of the 10 from Souths. From what I have seen several Colts 2 plays at Souths could have played Colts 1 and impressed but have not been given a chance to play because of the coaches views. There are also some good players in Brothers Colts 2 that have not been able to crack that brilliant Colts 1 side. Their time will come but could be considered as reserves to develop them with a view to the future. Lets hope they dont just pick the name players but also select some on develop potential.

Agree with most of that Wally.
For mine the Halfback from Easts was pretty good. and one of the props.
Logan the halfback/10 was very good considering all he did was tackle all year and the blonde flanker with headgear.
A couple of Norths outside backs were pretty good.
GPS have Kibble but some of the schoolboy stars have not shown much this year so I would not expect to much more on merit.
Bond had a pretty good flyhallf and some handy tight forwards but were very raw in terms of the rugby IQ.

My take on the year is that many of the Big fat kids who were schoolboy stars have found the step into senior rugby a bit harder than they expected and regressed as they are not just bully boys anymore and everyone can tackle pass and the speed is a bit faster.

Is Will Eadie from UQ still eligible for u19’s. If so, I’d have him in the same team with Lucas.

Early finals game this week. I feel Souths under the pump without their usual Captain, Cullen Ngamanu. While I do not think Uni have ever got their best team on field this year, this would be close to it and after v good result last weekend, may just have momentum required.

I see Isaac Lucas has dropped back to Colts 1 for an inconsequential game against Logan.

Should be a good Major semi preview in the Wests v Brothers game. Wests have lost their try scoring machine winger to Hospital Cup team whereas Brothers are fielding their strongest back line they have put on field this year.

I agree with the blonde flanker being good but his time at Logan developing this year has been a waste unfortunately for him.Logan this year was Souths last year, with Souths getting there house in order. To have a pack bigger than most teams and going uncontested too many times at scrum time is a disappointment for the few boys that were trying but did nothing to make them better players. Both Souths and Wests were keen to have him playing for them but he lived closed by to Logan so fair enough that he believed the hype he was told about their program. The other boys you push left Souths because they weren't guaranteed a colts 1 spot and had to put in the hard yards at Souths pre season and suddenly didn't have their fathers coaching or helping hence the position of Logan and easts on the table this year. A good example of working hard is the prop at Souths who only played seconds at lauries last year but has quietly worked hard and been rewarded with a colts 1 starting position.Hard work and dedication get you there not picking teams based on a premiership in under 16 in a comp that ran for Six weeks. Let's hope the flanker gets to a club to get the right guidance in future and can be a force again

Games for the weekend

Sunnybank (3) V Souths (4) Sunnybank took care of business last weekend against Logan in what would have been training run. South played like they did in the trials for the first time this season and were never in doubt against UQ. This one os too close to call now with the Bank taking care of Souths time they met. I will go for the Bank by 7 with a toss of the coin.

Brother (1) V Wests (2) What can you say Brother continued on there merry way last weekend. Wests will get better with some boys who played Prem grade on the weekend but I don't think it will be enough, these two teams should meet in the GF with Brother being the overwhelming favourites. Brothers by 20.

Colts 2

Brother(1) v UQ (2) Brothers favourites. However Expect UQ to have some boys playing down so it will be close.

Souths (3) V Bond (4) Too close to call. Same as above Bond will have some boys playing down.

2018 Colts 1 Home and Away Report Card

1 Brothers - Have done a superb job to go undefeated since Round 2 after GPS took it to them in the first game when they were a bit underdone. Their backs were dominant scoring almost 80% of the season’s tries with their kick returns outstanding. A great tight five was always setting up a great platform and made some good forward packs look very ordinary.

2 Wests - Almost always written off during the first half of the season, mainly due to very ordinary trial form, so always surprised. The only team they lost to during the season was Brothers. A very good all round team that get the basics right and then seem to be able to score from anywhere with great support play.

3 Sunnybank - As usual with a big set of forwards and a good compliment of backs. Started slower than they were expecting, but it seems after some tweaking of the back positions in the second half of the comp they have come home with a wet sail and look ominous going into the finals.

4 Souths - Great recruitment in the off season after a dismal 2017 season performance saw this team become the most improved year on year. However, have not delivered as well as their roster would suggest. Have not beaten any other team in the finals but made a statement by defeating Uni in their must win game in the last round. They also have a dominant front row who can sniff a try from a mile away.

5 Uni - Disorganised during the off season and a lack of recruitment has seen last year’s Premiers fall off a cliff. Injuries and other commitments saw 39 different players start during the season and probably resulted in more effort in the bonding or get to know you sessions than the games and it all became too much. Cruising in third place after the First Round the lack of good pre season prep bit hard and saw the wheels fall off winning only three of their last nine games. (I note Frotter picked this very very early)

6 Bond - This team could cause an upset on any given day but probably relying on too few very good players and held back by a massive player turnover, with 43 players starting for the team over the season. They lost the most games (four) of any team in the comp by 7 points or less.

7 GPS - Up there with Uni for the disappointing team of the season. After the upset win of the year against Brothers in first game, injuries to several key players including their best playmaker saw no wins between round 5 until round 11. They are the only team outside Brothers to have beaten two out of three top teams for season but discipline let them down very badly with 12 cards in 2018 (average per team was just over 5).

8 Easts - Thought they had recruited well in Colts this season only to see their best player head to NZ and the other play only in First Grade. Then problems with approach to season left the team without a win until Round 7. I heard changes to coaching staff brought some stability and the results improved a little in back half of the season.

9 Norths - After giving Souths a major scare in the third week, things just fizzled. At different times they lost key players up to First Grade, but just did not have the go forward up front to provide any good ball to do anything with.

10 Logan - The great thing I can say about this team is that they never gave up. In the couple of games I saw them they did not stop and still took it to the opposition team even when winning the game was well out of reach. They do have talent but need structure in their play, conditioning and training to become competitive from week to week.

Now on to the finals. This time of the year is a whole different ball game to the Home & Away rounds. Good luck to all the teams in all Colts divisions this weekend at Ballymore.
