Strong case to be made for picking fullbacks at fullback and wingers at wing

They work in a defensive pendulum a second unit who is very safe under the high ball and can clear is really important

And even more important if we are really considering running Beale as second playmaker from 15. There will be moments where TK is pushed onto the wing as the openside wing (DHP or Banks?) drops into cover

Him and Slipper were knocked out cold, both being out for a good amount of time as well. And you made me spit my coffee with that pun.

Ah poor fuckers. Yeah, give them a rest - not worth it. Depends if the Wallabies & the Rebels have the same HIA doctor though.

If anyone is remotely happy with that game then the bar is set very low. We are plumbing the depths here yet it seems our coach and captain are living in an alternate universe or are the new Marx Brothers.

"Our attack in the first half was world-class"

"I believe we showed a lot of good signs."

The group may have a policy of public praise and private criticism.

Yes and no. There were certainly aspects of it that we could be 'remotely happy' with. The lineout for one.

The turning point was when Tupou got sent to the bin. Regardless of whether it was justifiable or not, managing a 7 man forward pack at that stage of the game was disastrous, and we were well in the game at that point.

I'd agree that describing any part of our game as world class is a bit of a stretch, but to say that there were a lot of good signs isn't. There were also a lot of bad signs.

There's a lot of hyperbole in this forum- we weren't nearly as bad as some people here are saying.
I thought so too. Very fine margins at the top, didnt really feel like a 35-17 hiding.

for Tupo's YC I couldnt hear when the whistle went in relation to his clean-out? The "he used his shoulder" quibble from the ref to Hooper was a bit bizarre. What the fuck is he supposed to use, his dog's gonads?

Odd to hear people slagging off Hooper. I get the feeling that half the time he's the only thing preventing it from all completely falling the fuck apart

DHP scored a very good try then undid it with his Mr Bean-on-acid impression with the tryline gaping.

Three tries down his wing as well, basically.

Banks is probably the closest player we have to a 'strike' winger who can kick and catch. Maddocks scores tries too, i suppose.

DHP getting excoriated forii-wide but wft was To'omua up to when DHP left his wing to join the ruck? Havent seen a replay but To'omua sort of let the bok HB scamper away like he didnt know wft to do? Looked like a byronian case of Brainlock Deepfreeze Maximus to me

He made the tackle and scrambled to get out of the ruck in time to cover DHP. Failed.

I don't think To'omua was to blame there. I think he made the previous tackle.

He was still trying to get up and back onside when Jantjies ran in to score.

The constant Hooper criticism gets me, could I suggest if he didn't play for the Tahs some of his biggest critics may not have as much to say.
That Hooper has been a more consistent performer than any other Wallaby over the past three years would be clear to any remotely objective observer.
As to the decision to take the scrum, had we scored a try and gone into half time with a lead it would have been a master-stroke. These are the calls you have to make as a captain, and I will never attack anyone for going for the big call, in rugby or business. However, I obviously know all the experienced wallaby captains on these forums would have made the right call!

I think we should have taken the gift three points there. Our scrum wasn't looking stable enough to ensure it was going to be an outstanding attacking platform. That said, it wasn't under so much pressure that Naisarani's error at the back of the scrum was inevitable.

That aside, Hooper was one of our best players as he generally is. We are going to need a more active defensive line if we expect any of our players to compete harder at the breakdown. We were too passive on Saturday night.

Who gives a shit about being onside. The guy was going to score a try and you're the last man. Just grab the little bastard and let any "heyy wasnt that guy offside?" video ref bollocks play out later on
I’ve whinged about this sort of shit countless times when the ABs infringe or appear to infringe to stop a try. They always get away with it. Time we did the same.

If you watch the replay, I think To'omua would have tackle Jantjies if he'd been able to from the offside position because he knew there was no other defender. To'omua sees him potentially darting between To'omua and the ruck but then Jantjies steps around him and goes on the outside and To'omua can't react in time because he's facing the wrong direction.

It's 100% DHP's fault.

Thanks for that vid. Quite insightful. I’ve said before (admittedly, often tongue in cheek) as someone who spent a bit of time out wide there’s a bit more going on than is often given credit for.

The LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) non-try us a really nice example of what the Wobs are trying to do. All from inside the 22

Isi takes the kickoff and it's secured by the pod.
White passes to Foley and on to Slipper who goes out the back to Kerevi to get over the advantage line.

They go the same way again with Foley passing to Banks and Hooper stacking the blindside. The Boks over commit to cover that threat.

The Bok openside defense is now 8, 4,5,3,1,6,7. Backs running at forwards, just what Foley wants

Wallabies come back to the left again and Foley passes in behind the dummy runs of slipper and Arnold to Kerevi who goes straight through two forwards (6 and 7).

The back defenders have been sucked further wide to cover kurindrani, Hodge and Isi playing on the edge.

Kerevi split them wide open

Nice series of phases which deserved a try
