Yeah I just think there is too much thinking, that is making all our sides too passive, too bothered about the next play and not enough about make the current play quality. And that quality means my standard bug bear - work off the ball

There was a break out by the Scots and by the time the tackle was made there were more Irish in the defensive line than there were Scots trying to leverage the opportunity. The Irish worked the arses off

The seemingly constant troubles at 10 down in Mexico, WTF isn't Deegan given a decent stretch with To'omua outside him? Andrew showed enough promise both at the Force and in the NRC to warrant a run, and To'omua's definitely better suited at inside centre. Matt's steadying hand and solid defence could be just the thing for the Rebels.

Having a 13 could be a decent thing for the Rebels. People remember the one-off games where a team wins well with a general outside back at 13 and pretend that there aren't hundreds of games of teams losing because the opposition 12 just runs into the space where a 13 should be.

Thankfully the Reds have Petaia as a genuine 13 option, the kid has defensive awareness like a ten-year veteran. If he and Kuridrani go down, much as I rate Ikitau, Walabies are fucked.

I think Rennie will probably go with a young team, I'll have a go at the forwards -- very early to say for the backs, especially considering all the young / new players we have floating around. But judging from the first round:

I think the Reds front row put a strong application in against the Brumbies all-Wallabies front row. Tupou is definitely at worst coming off the bench; along with Ala'alatoa, probably Slipper and Sio making up some combination of the props. As for the hookers Fainga'a is probably the first pick, I don't rate Uelese he's not played enough rugby to justify, I'd have Rangi over him; but probably the choice of BPA or Mafi.

As for the locks you've gotta go with Rodda and likely LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) but Swain/Frost/Enever have a good chance, but maybe Hockings/Blyth could have a chance.

Back row is a bit of a toss up but and will be very competitive. But I'd go with something like Samu/Wright/Wilson, but obviously Dempsey and Hooper have good cases to put forwards.

The Brumies front row were completely dominated by Tupou and the Reds pack. I get maybe Fainga'a and/or Alen, but the Reds front row was so dominant! Valentini is an odd choice too.

The state of this take. 'I'd go with someone who's played precisely one game of Super Rugby, but I suppose the incumbent 100-test captain who has won multiple John Eales medals has a chance of the spot too'.

I know Wallaby team chat in February is a rank cesspool of quickly-forgotten opinions, but I couldn't let this one pass without comment.

I think AAA is deserving....... his side of the scrum was strong, he didn't give away any penalties (Tupou gave away 2), and he was better around the ground.

Sio is a strange choice - completely owned by Tupou in the scrum, and couldn't hold onto the ball.......... there was an instant improvement when Slipper came on.

And Fainga'a didn't have a strong game......... probably not a great week for Australian hookers, but I would maybe have gone with Abel.

I know he didn't play at 6, but for the sake of the team of the week I probably would've made room for Samu and had a backrow of:

6. Samu
7. Hooper/Wright
8. Wilson

I think the big thing is we saw how much of an impact LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) had when he switched sides in the scrum. JP went from being destroyed to achieving parity with AAA, and Tupou went on to destroy Sio. If he keeps that up, and does his work around the field, he'll be the first-choice lock.

Spot on. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) is a very good lock and a very ordinary 6. He and Rodda should be the starting locks for the Wallabies IMO

According to Doran, Noah L has aged two years since the 2019 U20s while Will Harrison should have turned out for last year's U20s as he is still only 20 now. Basic errors. Not the only ones.

There is a long way to go in this domestic season and there are some excellent prospects in the back row. I would guess that Rennie will be looking for both the starting 6 and 8 to be genuine lineout options. Basic test rugby requirement.

Wilson threw far too many stupid passes to be considered for anything so far and Samu is too small to start at test rugby @ 6 or 8 if we want to win against the adults, bench or 7 for me

Strongly disagree - Samu is the same size as McMahon (and similar in size to Savea), and is just as strong in contact..........
