I had a look at a rugby.com.ah article this morning suggested profit would be split between the Lions and SA, no mention of financial benefit for AUS. Maybe they’re paying a straight fee upfront? Wasn’t sure what to make of it..

No direct financial benefit, as long as it’s operational cost neutral, then why do they need a financial benefit?
There’s a massive indirect financial benefit in having rugby in the headlines and high profile matches been played, which would occur with a B&I tour. .

eh, not saying its a bad thing. Just surprised during a time period of limited resources they wouldn't take the opportunity to try and get some financial benefit out of it.

Might be other opportunities connected to hosting that may pop up. Such as tour games etc.

While I not sure how serious it is, there is plenty of up sides, Aus super sides to play Boks or Lions in warm up games, money to be made there. RA to get costs for running games, pretty sure there would be some pretty creative bookkeeping to make sure there a little meat in it.In saying that I think it just as much Hamish putting rugby on the news during off season, and nothing wrong with that.

With the 2027 World Cup host to be named in May 2022, why not do a bit of back scratching now and hope for some back then.

An additional 180,000-250,000 fans turning up to watch live rugby union in any year, is ‘massive’, that’s a level of rugby union fan engagement which is difficult to replicate outside of key events like that.

- 3 x British & Lions tests @ 50-70k each = 180k
- Plus 2 or 3 games against Super Rugby team @ 25k each = 50 to 75k

A total crowd of 180-250k for the B&I Lions tour in Australia is an achievable target.

But I’m also interested to see the impact of 2 non-Australian sides competing will have. Especially from the British/Irish side more than likely no touring fans and there’s a lot of expats who have buggered off home. Our own fans aren’t exactly in love with the sport atm at the best of times

Perth’s new Optus Stadium, which hosted the record Wallabies win over New Zealand in 2019, is regarded as state of the art and provides the capacity – around 60,000 – to accommodate the fans who traditionally follow Lions tours in great numbers. “I don’t see why they would not sell out the ground,” McLennan said.

Those figures estimated are still half of what was received in 2013 when the Wallabies played, I think these variables are already factored in.

There’s still over a million Brits living in Australia, and a couple of hundred thousand South Africans. On top of the casual Australian rugby fan who would pay to watch 2 of the worlds best teams play, I think the support is easily there.
