You should probably look at giving everyone a game each. Why on earth do the Tahs deserve two games? Considering they are going to concede 50 plus each week

Why do Channel 9 get the Brisbane Broncos scheduled on Friday night most weeks even when they are terrible? Because the games rate well to a key part of their audience regardless.

But nobody but Tahs fan would watch a Tahs game unless maybe against Crusaders to see if you get 100 put on you

They may well change the scheduling going forward and focus on Reds games but the ratings from games including at least one of the Tahs and Reds been the highest. Tahs vs Reds have been the two highest rating games which is not at all surprising given those are the two states with the biggest rugby demographic.

Part of the reason behind FTA exposure is to grow the game. So while ratings are important there is more to it than just that

Rugby Australia would have no part in choosing the FTA broadcast schedule so while I agree with you, Channel 9 will be making the decisions based on what they think is best for them.

You would find sports body’s normally do have a say. Like how the AFL makes sure Sydney and GWS get FTA games to the point they will put it on FTA into NSW even if it’s not meant to be the FTA game. Don’t get me wrong the Tahs deserve to be on FTA but so do the Rebels Brumbies and Force

AFL has a bit more bargaining power and that probably comes at a financial cost, NRL games are dictated by 9 and no doubt 9 probably pays more for that right. It would be good if all teams shared the FTA broadcast, but i think its understandable why 9 have targeted the two biggest markets as they try and establish what is essentially a new product.

I can’t see them targeting Tahs game for TT games as they will get flogged bad for the image of Aus Rugby. I think they will look for games the Aus sides can win each week

Yeah i think they'll do a bit of analysis on it, its not always about the highest rating game either because they want some people to sign up to Stan to watch the remainder as well.

Not broadcast related but a bit of fun/interesting

I jumped into Sportsbet to see the Reds price for this weekend considering all the issues with their travel, went to the Sports page of betting. As expected NRL and AFL up the top of the featured sports. But geez was I surprised that I had to scroll down TWELVE other sports including tennis, NBL, AFLW and A League before I found Super Rugby!

Prime position on punting apps probably isn’t a metric that RA would be looking at in terms of success, but it is an interesting observation about how Sportsbet feel about the market for those bets. Essentially saying a semi professional sport such as AFLW or a tennis minor over in the USA is more likely to attract punters than our game.

It’s good, Sportsbet pay so little attention to Super Rugby there is always money to be made. Like how they opened the Tahs at $6 for the spoon. Easy money

I noticed that too. I had settled in and was ready to watch only to see that tonight it was ‘on hiatus’. Would love to know why.

Ok that explains why I couldn't find it. I was racking my brain thinking I usally get it Tuesday night, but didn't come up on my sky programmes!

Ch9 was hit by a cyberattack Sunday/Monday, which has made broadcasting (and publishing the SMH) difficult. Might also be that some of the hosts were stuck in Brisbane?

I think that says more about rugby fans than anything. Punting has never been a big part of the game, for whatever reason.

I actually quite like it, means our games aren't filled with tedious betting ads.

But if they offered same game multis it would get people to watch the sport who otherwise wouldn’t as all of a sudden they are invested in the outcome
