Now it gets intersting - CAS named 1st & 2nd XVs & a few U16 players included. Does anyone know what the protocol is? Does a player have to play in the U16 schools tournament to get into U16 schoolboy XV? What choices for U16 players selected into either 1st or 2nd XV CAS duties.

No there are plenty of examples where 16's played opens for their association & were picked in NSW 16's. In fact it is an inside run. If they can compete at opens then the selectors know they will cope at the state 16's level

Blindside, really? from reports it seems that both Deegan and Clarke can handle playing with the bigboys where lussick get flustered, frustrated and makes unforced errors
NSW 16s fly will either be Deegan or Clark with Jeff Marcus the dark horse

I browse these pages very often however this is my first time posting so forgive me if my comments seem overly elaborative or analytical; It comes with old age ... Lol. Nevertheless someone here invited comments pertaining to players from the NSWCCC U/16's team, in particular their background and what others know or have heard of them. Well here is a red hot tip for you all; Michael Morgan the Outside Centre. He is an absolute gun from what I seen at the NSWCCC trials.
Admittedly I had never heard of him before, but while attending the above trials I overheard some other boys point him out and discuss his recent exploits in league. I work in sport admin so my curiosity was naturally aroused and I went to watch him play. His performance was excellent! He was playing outside another lad named Karl Seana and together they were a lethal centre pairing. Both are big and fast and on the old scale each would have to be at least 6'2". They're built like proverbial brick sh*t-houses too!
As the story goes Morgan goes to Marist Kogarah, a reputed league school, but he has been playing union since he was 12. He made junior rep teams in Primary for both codes but until recently was an unknown. He plays for the Canterbury JRU Titans (a very distiguished team according to their website). It is my understanding he went to league after being very unfairly treated within the SJRU U/15 MSZ team at last year's (2010) regional championship.
From all accounts he played both codes last year but was immediately noticed by the Canterbury Bulldogs who put him into their junior development program for 2010. He was then selected for their Harold Matthews team this year. Like all here, I too am a rugby fan (and biased towards St Pat's for what it's worth), however let it be acknowledged that the Harold Matthews Cup is a very well respected elite U/16 league competition which is professionally run. I also know for a fact that some of the boys others have mentioned here in these pages tried out for various HM teams and didn't make them!
The Bulldogs won the HM Cup this year and also the National tile against the comparative QLD U/16 champion team. Morgan played in the centres and was the HM Cup's leading try scorer. As a result he was selected for the NSW U/16's team that played against the QLD U/16's as the curtain raiser to the first 'State of Origin' at Suncorp Stadium last week (BTW Tepai Moeroa was also selected).
Karl Seana has good grounding as well. Like Morgan he too played in the HM Cup this year, but for the South Sydney Bunnies (they made the semi-finals). I have been informed that he was injured for half of the HM Cup season but when he returned he was a devasting runner who knew his way to the try line!
At the conclusion of the CCC trials it was interesting to see Morgan and his father (I presume) being introduced to Ben Whitaker and having a lengthy conversation. For those who don't know Ben Whitaker is in charge of the ARU's junior development program, in particular the JGS. Therefore it might be a case that Morgan has been invited to join the same.
I also have it on good authority that there are several high profile NRL clubs chasing this lad. Look out for him and his partner in the centres to make a real impact!

I think you'll find that Morgan is still playing junior Rugby at Canterbury & will play in the State Championships for Sydney University in U16s

Was a tough game, half backs were at each other all day, Short was all over Davis in the 1st half, and throughout the day his pass was better and more consitent, however, Davis played a strong game, giving clean enough ball to get their backs moving and scoring and he himself making an uncharacteristic half back try. Half battle was interesting and will be even more interesting when the GPS teams come out.

Doubt that, he hasn't been playing consistent footy like Deegan and Clarke have. He cracks under pressure as showed in the Scots vs New trial match.

Brent Whicker's a very good young player and is a member of the ARU's NSW Junior Gold Squad. He went to school at Model Farms High School last year but may have moved this year.

That's my excuse. Welcome aboard Newbie and keep them coming (not just browsing) - and not just this thread or schoolboys either. The more clarity and sense we can get, the better.
I hope these lads are available for selections in union U/16 sides, though sometimes the Dark Side has trials which conflict in some age groups.

Scrums were a nice battle, in the first half it was even and Kings had the upper hand, however scots pushed them back on several occasions allowing, 9, Short to make Davis' job hard. The 2nd half saw 2 changes in the Scots pack which may have impacted on them as kings made to tightheads.
Lineouts were good, kings won most of their ball, maybe stolen twice, and scots won their ball the same maybe lost it twice too. Breakdwon was very much even, both teams keeping possesion. The Ref didn't help either side in reality, but can't blame him

AICES, CCC & CHS trials at St Doms
Just got back from the U16s trials at St Dom's, Kingswood. AICES are off the pace, tried hard but got towelled up by CCC then CHS. CCC beat CHS 26 -22 (or 21-17). Hard game but defence was questionable; 48 points in 30 minutes. In saying that, I might be a bit hard as it was a trial.
These two teams (CCC & CHS) go ok; so the States titles will be interesting.

I was there too, and yes I have to agree the CCC and CHS teams were good. CHS did have better ball distribution through its back line courtesy of Connor Fox/Finn, whereas CCC starved its outside backs of some quality ball particularly the O/C Michael Morgan who looked very dangerous each time he got it!
It was a close game with CCC winning 21-19. The difference being a kick. The stand-outs for me in the CCC team were the Number 8, F/B, and the O/C Micheal Morgan (who was also the kicker for CCC and landed most of his conversions from or near the side-line).
For CHS the stand-outs were the F/H Connor Fox/Finn (which name is it???), the O/C Jimmy Ah Cheung, the Prop Jarrod Matairavula, and the Flanker Brandon Amosa Paenga. There was one other, but I don't know the lad's name. He was playing Prop in the number 16 jersey (strong very very strong). When the 16 came on suddenly him and Jarrod Matairavula had the CCC front row in trouble winning a couple of tight heads!
It will be an interesting weekend in late June!

Don't remember any tight heads but CCC lost a few of few line-outs. CCC were caught out wide in defence a few times playing compress defence a few times, probably not intentional. Hard to say there was any real stand-outs in 30 minutes, with CHS having played AICES with a 5 minute break & CCC coming in cold with a 35 minute break, but if they meet at the State Titles over 60 minutes it will be interesting. Both sides will not be easybeats.
Don't believe the servicing to the backs were really that different as it was dependent on field position & as I said CCC outside backs were not lining up man on man in defence & gave the CHS wingers plenty of space. Anyway, the CAS & GPS sides will know they're in a competition at the State Titles.

Thanks for the insight in to CCC 16's Newbie. I too am a first time poster on these pages and have had extensive exposure to what seems to be a particularly strong agegroup. Having had the oppertunity to view many of the players being refered to in these pages via the NSW Country, JGS and GPS pathways I feel comfortable enough to have my two bobs woth in relation to who should or will make NSW All scholls 16's selection this year.
The forwards for me will be much harder (than the backs) to select with quite a few having genuine claims based on past and current form. So in non positional order, but probably merit based order, would think that the following players will figure in the squad. Matt Sandel (GPS), Nick Pennissi(GPS), Troy Smith (CAS), Malaki Afele(CAS),Luke Papworth (CHS), Lucas Bateman (GPS), Matt Matson (GPS) and Jamie Greentree (GPS). Throw in a couple of "bolters" from the CHS and CCC packs who on the day could prove to be more than a handleful. I must say however, having the oppertunity to see a couple of the CCC forwards play over the years, I do question the strength of the pack.
On the other hand, I think the backs will be far easier to pick with a few standouts who shouldn't miss out. Starting with Rory Davis (GPS) -daylight second in that position. Would take Joey Lusaik (GPS)or Jeff Markus(CAS) at 21 as either could be very effective late in a tight game at 9 or 10. Corey Tulloch(GPS) at 10 because of his exceptional defence and long parternship with Davis ( nothing would get thru the middle ) and lets face it, the ball will need to get to (quickly and often) where the real strength will be outside 10 with Tepai Meroa ( GPS) and Andrew Kallaway (GPS). Woulk be the best centre pairing I've seen in a few years. A major factor in the "new found" sucess of the Kings 16's this year has been the performance of Harry Jones at 15. Big, fast and strong, runs great lines. Would have him starting there. As for Micheal Morgan, I also have seen him play a few times and reckon him and Robbie Wolgram have similar skill sets (might come down to 1 or the other).The wing spots at this stage seem to be wide open with a number of players from different associations in good form.
In relation to the Harold Matt's Newbie, I've watched quite a bit this year and reckon although the format and program is very good quality, the standard of footy doesn't warrant the hype. Even the top sides Illawarra and Bulldogs have more than a few players who are only at best average athletes making it easier for the handful of genuinely talented players to shine.
