There are many quality number 7's this season that are buying for NSW jerseys, its just a shame to see some of these boys will be left out due to such a strong class:
Broome (CHS)
Walters (GPS)
Baldwin (GPS)
Kennedy (CAS)
Conlon (ISA)
Dempsey (GPS)

I thought Kelleway the 14 for GPS 1s had a strong game. Perhaps he could take one of those winger spots in NSW 2s. Although he is only 16 so could be a bit early???[/QUOTE]
Note, Kellaway is still 15, but has played quite well wouldn't be surprised to see him take a NSW 1's or 2's winger spot

im going to throw a name to u for one of the hooker roles which u may not have heard of, his name is Brendan Haddad a strong and very fit hooker who has played very well. He may not b a standout but he is one of the people who hav been at the breakdown all the time for CHS winning them ball and making crucial tackles i hav been watching the hookers role closely because their is not a clear standout but I beleive he should make at least one of the teams and he still has another year to go

You can remove Dempsey from that list as he is a 6. IMO he is better than Miller, so if Miller is being considered for a NSW Dempsey should be way in front of him. Hopefully the NSW selectors can see past the half brained one-eyed GPS selectors...

I would rank the 7s in the order of Broome, Walters, Baldwin, Kennedy, Conlon - although it depends a lot on what sort of game the coach envisages their respective NSW team playing as each of them have slightly different attributes.

Broome and Walters and probably the most skillful ball players but both are very good over the ball, and if anything there lack of size is an advantage for them as it makes them a small target to get off the ball (might hold them back in senior rugby though)

Baldwin and Kennedy are more your robust ball carrying 7s - who have their place depending on who gets picked to play 6 and 8.

Friday should tell us a bit more.

Not a bad team up there no name. Some notes on the Ones:

4. Up for grabs IMO with Orr a nose in front. It may turn on Friday's events.

6. Rhys Dombkins (ISA) - He'll have to play better than on Sunday but he had a game for St. Augustines the day before and was not fully fit either. A lot of the other 6s are really 7s with 6 on their jerseys.

7. Gordon Broome (CHS) - He's not fully fit either and had only half a game against CAS and not much more against ISA. If he's fit it's a no brainer for me however good the others guys are, and they are good. He just has something they don't have.

Dempsey (GPS) is a favourite of mine this year and if Dombkins or Broome are not fit I would play Dempsey in either position even though he doesn't play 7 for his school. He would make up for his 7 deficiencies with other actions. Won't happen though as he's in the GPS IIs.

9. Waldo Wessels (CHS) - Hasn't convinced me for CHS though he could get there on the size of his scrapbook. Merriman has been the best scrummie I have seen this year.

10. Jack Debricini (CAS) - Not at all. Vaux and Horowitz were better last night and Jack was about the same against CHS: decent but not quality.

11. Nathan Roye (GPS) - Not really a footie player yet; so if Gutherson can play on the wing I would pick him.

12. JJ Purcell (ISA) -. Played on one leg on Sunday but should be picked. Like 7. Broome in the forwards he has X factor (as a playmaker).

13. Jim Stewart (GPS) Really a 12 but since Roods is out of favour and maybe still injured anyway it would be a good compromise if the selectors think he can play there. Purcell will be given him money balls all day. Went off Northam a bit on Sunday as he overplayed his hand for CHS.

15. Adam Gutherson (CHS) - I'd have Le Lievre there. He had some bad moments last night; once when he slipped and let in a try but he is a big match player and I think they will go with him.

Have to agree. I have followed Debricini the last few years and rate him highly, good vision, strong kicking game, good long pass but lacking when it comes to making a break. I saw Vaux last night for the first time and was impressed, took the ball to the line strongly, ran good lines and excellent attacking game. NSW has lacked these skills in the last few years. Vaux gets my vote assuming NSW can find another open field kicker.

A lot of talk about Dempsey (6 GPS II), and yes i do think he was a standout in yesterdays games. However, i don't think he does the hard work that is required from a backrow. You never see him at the rucks, always defending even outside the 10 or 12 channels. Sure he makes breaks, is a rampant runner in open field, and supports well but that is also due to the fact his not buried under the ruck doing the work. Doesn't do enough of the tough stuff to get my vote over Miller (6 GPS I).

Broome is way ahead of Walters in skills in my view. He is not 100% fit. Better ball skills but similar in over the ball skills. I actually think most if the 7s in the list have limited general rugby skills. Pretty one dimensional. But Broome is the standout. He is crazy on occasions.

I think we will see a stronger running game from Dombkins on friday. He has been very strong all year carrying the ball, always getting over the ad line and creating opportunities for the outside players. It will be important for him to get his team going forward and getting CAS on the backfoot to allow players like Natoli and Purcell to get the backline flowing.

If he plays like he has been for auggies all year he should wrap up the 6 spot in NSW 1

As I said in the report he went OK. It was the first time I had seen him this year and I had only seen him once last year when Grammar played Kings.

He's a good player but the likes of Roods (if fit), Northam, and even Barclay would be in front of him, plus Scarano who I have seen only this year. NSW could pick Stewart as a 13 also. He's a chance for the NSW bench especially if he can play in other positions, which I don't know about, and the others can't.

He can play 12 and also 9. Not that he will be given a go at 9.

I'd have to agree with you here, after Tuesday's game I wouldn't play Dempsey at 7. You need someone like Walters at 7 (based on Tuesday's game) who was a work horse around the ruck and in defense (at one point making 3 consecutive tackles). Shame we won't see Walters up against Broome. But the Dempsey, Walters Baraket backrow should prove interesting.

There has been a lot of people saying that players won't make it from GPS 2s. Every year a number of players are selected from GPS 2s who go on to make NSW and then Australia after that. The NSW selectors are smarter than the GPS fools and realise that often players have been picked in the wrong GPS side, or as is also often the case, the GPS has the 2 best players in those positions so they both go through.

The same applies for the CAS 2s except this year they really don't have any talent. Several years ago Nathan Charles made Aus schoolboys from CAS 2s. Ben Whittaker was CAS 1s hooker that year and also made it.

This year i expect the following GPS 2s lads to be a real shot at further selections:
Horwitz
Gallagher
Dempsey
Walters
Roods - (even though he hasn't played i reckon he will still get picked)

I talked to one of the 2nds CAS coach and he made it clear that this was a very understrengthed 2nds team with a couple of Knox and Barker 2nds players making the squad due to so many injuries.

Had a look at the CAS 2 squad for this friday's game against ISA, Keep an eye out for Rowley (2nd rower returning from injury)..think he made NSW u16 last year, very tall. has been standout for knox 1sts this year.
