Have you guys signed that lock you were running at the end of the season? He looks handy.
Atkins yeah he looked good in the last 2 games. Only issue is the force have been developing a young Perth Boy in Jake Ball. he would have got the gig at the end of this year had he not been injured. so we have Lynn and Wykes as our starterd and Battye on the bench with Ball in the EPS so prob room for another guy but i doubt another development spot. Might be looking for someone ready to go...not to many of them but they will be looking.

I wouldn't be expecting many young guns being recruited for next year. I'm picking they will only be signing guys who have previous super 15 experience. Add in a couple of old guys from Europe to fill out the squad.
DHP please bring him back a wing fullback is on the cards!

thewesternforce @matthodgson678 has been appointed Club Captain for 2013. Join with us in congratulating our new skipper! #relaunch #FeeltheForce
They should make Hodgo the CEO at the Force as well. Wasn't he the one who actually secured them an extra marquee slot for next year?

Gee, that's a pretty big call. You must be referring to only the first couple of years in the 90s, because Transvaal won the Super 10 in 93 then the Reds won in 94 and 95.
Yeah, Queensland can make a worthy claim – particularly around 92-95. They weren't yet 'the Reds' back then, though. ;)

This was some banter about whether or not Rod Macqueen's coaching at the Tahs had provided a platform for the RWC win in 1991. In the mix, DB claimed Macqueen's side had beaten the Auckland Blues.

They weren't yet 'the Blues' back then, though. Dam0 had countered that it wouldn't surprise to see them lose to the Tahs (were they 'the Tahs' back then?) as Auckland was just one of ten NPC teams, not having combined with Northland and North Harbour yet.

Auckland were the benchmark back then, though. Especially from 86 to 91. If you look at the AB side that retained the Bled in 91, I think only four starters were not Auckland players.

15 Terry Wright
14 John Kirwan
13 Craig Innes
12 Bernie McCahill
11 John Timu
10 Grant Fox
9 Graeme Bachop
1 Steve McDowall
2 Sean Fitzpatrick
3 Richard Loe
4 Ian Jones
5 Gary Whetton (c)
6 Mark Carter
7 Michael Jones
8 Zinzan Brooke

"Club Captain" (like Davidson at the Rebs) or captain?

I guess that means Hodgo won't be picked in the 8 man leadership group.
Response on what the Club Captain is

"the Club Captain position has been created to ensure a player assumes responsibility as captain from now and through the pre-season. A team captain will be appointed in due course. Matt remains a candidate for team captain."

Why arse about, just make him captain and if he gets injured appoint someone else. There is no other credible option (unless they can talk Sharpe into one more year).

It is what it is

Sorry ChargerWA, but get used to this indecisiveness, it's a disease Foley's brought with him.

So Matt Hodgson is guaranteed the captaincy until the start of the 2013 season? Then they'll pick someone from outside the yet to be determined [insert number]-man leadership group.

Sigh...definitely not going to miss this next year in Tahland.

I like to watch

That's great news for Hodgo, congrats to him. Well deserved.
So Foley had no input?
Or he had input and made a decision before meeting all the squad?
I feel so sorry for you guys, you have no idea about the world of pain that is about to be inflicted upon you for the next 4 years.
(This is by no means a criticism of Hodgo or his suitability, just the process or lack of.)

There's speculation that they haven't named him "permanent captain" in case they need the captaincy as a carrot to entice a marquee player. Don't know if that's a good idea, if true, but again - speculation. But it makes sense as a reason why they wouldn't just name him as captain.

Please, Foley has been at the Force 2 seconds and already he's being bagged. I'm sure the results achieved at the Tahs in 2012 didn't just come down to the coach. The players themselves and the Tahs board with their meddling and innuendos created uncertainty which contributed to a poisonous workplace environment condusive to failing. Lets give Foley and the coaching team a chance before passing any judgements.

Fair point, Moono. On reflection I think even I've been guilty of it. I would appeal to my fellow 'Tahs supporters to back off; cease and desist; it's really none of our business.

After all, we don't even know if the contract has been signed yet. If we keep ringing alarm bells they might end up sending him back.
