I'm just being a bit open minded. There is nothing that says trinity will be unable to beat barker, but I feel that teams often play a better game when up against a stronger team. Take the example of the 1st and maybe even both Barker Waverley clash's.
Trinity do have very strong players they just have to find their flow. I have a smaller glimmer of hope for them.

Yeh it seems your analysis cannot be flawed based on the statistics provided. However, there are a few points I'd be wary of as a Barker fan (literally). The first is that last year you could look at the stats and one could say something along the lines of the following: "Waverly came 2nd in 1st XV, and 2nd in 2nd XV with a number of year 11's returning." Also, you might have heard something along the lines of "Knox came 1st in the 2nd XV and 3rd in 1st XV, also with a considerable amount of year 11 returning, as well as a strong under 16 side" But of course the one thing you would definitely have heard was "Trinity for back-to-back, with 1st XV dominating (breaking CAS records), and practically the whole team returning where any players leaving would be replaced with their 2011 16's players who were more than capable". Yet, look where we are now. If somebody had said this time last year, "I bet Barker will win in 2012" they would be absolutely ridiculed. 4th in 1st XV, 3rd in 2nd XV, and 3rd (or tied 2nd?) in 16A's. On paper they didn't stand a chance, except the fact that they had well over half their team returning.

Leading into my second point, the funny thing is that Barkers depth is so good this year that people in the firsts last year like Clout, Naude (who played CAS 2's this year), and Lembke-Hogan (CAS 1sts 2011) are frequently playing in the 2nds (Naude was playing 2s more at the start of the season). Unfortunately there was a slight fault in the information you provided, as 10 out of 15 players are year 12 in the Barker 1st XV, and some players (like Pederson, and Marais) don't have a year 11 replacement until the 4ths. The back line will undoubtedly be strong still with Davis, Stolz, and Smerdon returning, and other 2nds standouts like Dove to replace Flaherty and Elwood-Hall a good candidate to fill the shoes of Haltmeier. but they will have difficulty finding the same strength up front with Wilson, Marais, Pearson, Pederson, Naude and Edney all leaving this year. Best of luck to them in 2013 though, and as they proved this year anything can happen in the space of 12 months!!

I see what you are saying, that basically it's what happens in the offseason and pre-season. I'd imagine Barker would have established an intense pre-season program and would have placed a focus on their defence and discipline to make up for those placings in 2011. Players returning is very important as you say and I am sure I'm not the only one to believe Trinity would replicate last years efforts after retaining most of the team while one would believe Knox would present a challenge to Trinity. As you say I would probably not have tipped Barker to be so close to winning the title at the start, choosing Trinity with Knox 2nd and Waverley and Barker to be around 3rd. I thought their 16A's were quite strong last year, but that's why some thought Waverley would go close due to the undefeated team. On paper, one may not think much of them, but as you say half their players returning and after this year they should not be forgotten again

Yes I imagine I did get some information on Barker false. I've been pretty unsure of who is returning next year and who is not as I'm a Waverley supporter and we possibly face the same problems that Barker does except in the backs. Most the forwards are in Year 11 with adequate replacements in the 2nds for the Year 12s. However, Waverley's backs with the exception of O'Donnell are all Year 12 and with only 2 Year 11 players in the 2nds backs and 2 in the 3rds, all playing the same positions. There are no centres or wingers until the 4ths backline similar to the Barker forwards problems if there are no front or seconds rowers until the 4ths. I agree the backline will still be strong with those players as I've seen Dove is strong runner and hits hard and I've only ever seen Elwood-Hall in athletics but i think he made CAS 16s so he is probably talented. Barker has proved that anything can happen and I believe this is the week they officially win it.

Actually, I don't know where you got the idea that barker came 3rd in the 2nd XV as they were undefeated premiers.

As a person who attended their games I can assure you that barker 2nds lost both games to Knox in 2011. Sure, Barker 1sts were undefeated in 2010 but it's the 2012 season this year so unless your suggesting that there are a large number of players remaining from the 2010 undefeated side then I don't see how this is of any relevance... They did win the U16 division in 2010 undefeated also, but that doesn't guarantee much at all. Just to clarify, the point I was making was along these lines: If I gathered all the statistics from last years season and presented them to you, and then suggested that based on those statistics Barker would have won in 2012 (or been close to winning) then I don't think you would have agreed with me (that is assuming you were at an impartial stance). I would not blame you for disagreeing because by all given logic Barker just wouldn't have looked that strong. The whole idea is that we cannot use this years results to accurately predict what will happen next year, as there are other factors that can have a huge influence on the final outcome of CAS rugby next year.

I only counted 19 of the 30 returning from last year by the way (at a 1st and 2nd XV level), which is probably standard for most schools... This does not in any way discredit Barker, quite the opposite. They have clearly put in an exceptional amount of effort in the off season which has reflected throughout all grades with 1 loss in CAS out of all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd matches.

A teams defensive record is a true reflection of their commitment, as it is an aspect of the game that is mostly (more so than other areas of the game) acquired from organisation, structure, discipline, and hard work in training. It can therefore be drawn from this that where Barker may lack in 'flare' or 'superior skill' they have more than compensated for through developing one of the best defensive sides I have seen in school rugby, and this can only be done through consistent hard work at training (obviously this applies to all areas but it's particularly important in a teams ability to defend).

Can I just point out on the CAS league republic u15A ladder, the admin has gotten a result wrong. In st aloys' first round match against Barker, the match was cancelled due to serious injury, yet the win is recorded to barker, this result is pretty important in terms of the ladder so if the admin could just change that would be much appreciated

Waverley vs Saint Aloysius College

Waverley at home to Aloys who where coming off a big win against knox and looking to carry momentum through to the end of the season. Aloys where right on top throughout the first half and would have been miles ahead through Vevers(10) and Williams(5) if it hadn't been for Waverley's 7 Jack Johnson who single handedly kept them in the game with countless steals(legal and illegal) and bruising hits. Early departures for both Vevers and Williams left Aloys in strife and Waverley's backline began to shine. Solid midfield defence by Farley stopped all midfield raids by Aloys who lacked execution and guidance with the loss of their two best players. Thriving off the back off great defence and a solid platform Waverley unleashed long range attacks through Paterson and O'donnell and often came up with the points. Very solid outing for Waverley before Trinity, Aloys looked to be the goods in the first half but key injuries resulted in the scoreline blowing out to 53-12.

waverley stand outs: 1,7,8,10,12,13,15
Aloys stand outs: 5,7,10

Knox will have a big game this week as they bring back 3 of their best players. Creely been out all season makes his debut for 2012. Rumour of a HUGE crowd compared to a normal clash. barker defends their undefeated season and strives to come ontop of their rivals down the road once more!
If there was one rival clash that still meant something towards outcomes for 2012 it's this game at Knox. my predictions are Knox up in the first half 10-7 then an intense 2nd half with a small tussle one yellow card one red card and another draw for barker and thankfullness from Knox that they didn't lose.
I'm getting specific I know, but judging by the winnings I've made off Sportsbet, I think KENO might struggle when I start up my own tipping business.

Well, no one can accuse you of sitting on the fence. Not too sure about your facts, though: Creeley has played some competition games this season.
