Gordon appear to have sorted out their boardroom issues with the appointment of 5 new board members, signed a new major sponsorship arrangement with UTS ( to compete with Uni) and the sale of their licenced club with provide a substantial debt clearance and an annual grant. I hear they are dusting off the old Foundation and will be rattling the tin to future-proof the club in years to come. The Friends of Gordon appear to be doing a lot for the club which is great.

This is "The Shute Shield 2013" , thread.
Maybe you could start a "Talk about some footy " thread , & then go for your life.
I already have! Now how about YOU deliver something positive and interesting about the Shute Shield like all the contributors above whom you sit in judgement of and criticise. Talk of the Footy (sorry Shute Shield) would be much better than that. I give up, you win. Now can we can we talk about the footy (oh sorry I did it again, cough cough Shute Shield). Who do you think will win it next year?? Who will make the finals? Is it all right with you if we talk about Rugby players that play in the Shute Shield or is that outside the boundaries you have imposed on this forum??

Good on the Gordon Club and those involved for saving an institution.

Good to hear about Gordon. It's always a good day to beat Gordon at chatswood oval when they are strong.
Watching the leather patch brigade sqirm in there seats in the grandstand at full time after a Gordon lose is better than sex!
They are very good rugby supporters and be good to have them challenging for a semi spot.

Any truth to the rumour that I heard today that Premier Rugby Clubs (i.e. Shute Shield) will decrease their number of teams to 2 grade and 2 colts...... Belly, any ideas?

Cherry pick also rans of another code?
There would be more than 50 guys in the SS that would have been good enough to play NYC but not NRL, if that was their career path of choice.
Why should he be given an opportunity in front of these guys?
I'm not saying he should never be given an opportunity, just that he should get in line and prove his worth like everyone else.
Bear in mind, he finished NYC in 2011 so he is not giving anything up to play Rugby. If you don't count getting snotted in a local A grade for a couple of hungee a win.
This is nothing new for Rugby, I remember back in 01 or 02 that Rocky Elsom was 'cherry picked' from Bulldogs Lower grades

Not quite the same.
Elsom was an OZ Schoolboy and still had a contract with the Dogs.
This bloke was discarded by the Roosters in 2011 and couldn't get a gig anywhere last year or for this year.
There are plenty of guys who played at the same level in Mungo as this guy, filling up the lower grades in the SS.
Very few discards from Mungo play Super rugby.

All Clubs should have been back at it this week, any bold predictions on who is going to fair better in 13 / sides to challenge Uni? any mail on good pre season programs / signings?

See what your saying but pretty sure Rocky only played aus u/16s (Rugby) not schoolboys and was predominently a league discard.

See below from Wikipedia:
Elsom was educated at St. Joseph's Nudgee College in Brisbane where he was captain of their rugby union side; he went on to make the Australian Schoolboys side. He was a fast, agile forward for a young man of his size. He was nearly 100 kg when he finished in the Australian Schoolboys side. He then spent two seasons with the Canterbury Bulldogs rugby league club in Sydney and was a front-rower prop in their 2001 premiership-winning Jersey Flegg side.
He returned to rugby union in 2003, making his Super 14 debut against the Auckland Blues for the Waratahs. He was also the co-captain of the under-21 Australian national side at the 2003 under-21 World Cup.

I may be wrong, but I didn't think he played any league until joining the Bulldogs.

Depends who you talk to but some are saying that Randwick is a ticking bomb ready to explode. Too many novices in charge.

What I was alluding to is the older set are saying it is going to implode due to the new guys taking over with no experience. The new guys can obviously start from a low base but the older guys are saying that there could be mass player walk outs there based on some 'leaked' depth charts which had a few 1st graders pencilled in for 2nd grade. All fun & games regardless.

All fun and games indeed there from the looks of things! I think id be pencilling some 1st graders in for 2nd grade as well after last year performances but a good coach will pick on trial form and not reputation anyway

The problem comes when you promise 30 guys a starting spot, and use that ploy to retain and recruit.
