I don't see how everyone is counting bshs out of the comp? Im not saying they can win the thing but I dont think they'll finish last. I think many of us are thinking that one woeful year (2012) can ruin a long and proud tradition of State high rugby.

The fundamental problem with BSHS, they haven't got a premiership winning coach.

Maybe. If what you say is right, that's roughly 30-40 students playing rugby in certain age groups.

A quick look on SportingPulse shows:
- 2012 IGS football had 'D' teams in years 8, 10 and 12, with 'C' teams in the remaining year levels.
- 2013 Cricket had a 'D' team in year 9 with 'C' teams in opens, 10's and 8's.
- 2012 Basketball had 'C' teams in every year level

here's the link: http://www.gpsqld.org.au/

These squads might be smaller but they still illustrate that rugby is not a dominant sport at the school. Enrolment is not really a valid excuse either IMO.

Agree regarding BGS, the turn around in 3 years has been remarkable. Whether they can consolidate and capitalise on that success is another question. As I have said, I believe IGS could be a potentially great rugby school, the talent that graces their running tracks would not be wasted on any rugby field.

Agree-the IGS soccer and T&F programs are very very strong

No Paulo Leilisuao, Tyrone Hussey and Jake Pennissi. Their 2nd XV must be good this year with 2/3 playing first XV last year and all 3 playing QLD u16s.

Yeah mate I was quite surprised at a few selections, I know Paulo wasn't really in the picture and my guess is Penisi missed out due to his size. I thought Hussey was brilliant last year and really enjoyed watching him. If the team I'm told is correct Queensland white winger Riley Brennan also missed out and will play 2nds. Shit I'm looking forward to tomorrow!

BGS might be looking at another thrashing in the 2nd XV this year. Especially with a weaker opens side with only one year 11 playing up in the 1sts. Could be a problem for the Light Dark Blue heading into to the season with a lack of depth...

NC d BGS 26 - 18

Tense game. A few minutes until half time it was level at 6-6, until Nudgee scored a runaway try in the corner with their winger(?). Similar situation nearing full time. 19-18, BGS were nearing field goal range, but ridden by errors due to the rain, they let their guard down and Nudgee capitalized with a forwards try under the posts on the buzzer. Good game in the end. SamoanNo8 will be spewing.

BGS' Backline was looking good with standout performances by:
Halliday (10)
Aiono (12)
Lanskey (13)
Marsden (15)

Underage A games results:
U. 13. NC
U. 14. NC
U. 15. NC
U. 16. BGS

SamoanNo8

Fred Wood (13)
A positive start for the men in Blue this year, they should have got the win. Just a few errors and failing to capitalise on field possession is what let them down. Other than that, I can see a podium finish coming on for BGS. IMO, Nudgee didn't seem as strong as usual.

Other results from this weekend?

That first half try scorer was 'Big Red' #13. Campbell Magnay.
Half time NC11 BGS 6.
After the break, BGS scored two quick tries, one from a charge down.
Led 13 - 11 then 18 -14. The game seemed in the bag, then NC scored
try to take lead 19 - 18. It was anyone's game.
NC hooker Mafi was sin binned for late tackle. BGS did not capitalise on his absence.
BGS forwards were noticeably tiring. Why didn't Emtage use his reserve bench.
When Mafi returned, the Nudgee forwards took control and scored under the posts.
Not the best performance by NC, they gave away too many cheap penalties and seemed lethargic. All credit to Grammar. They put up a courageous effort.
I have to revise my premiership predictions.
