Yes it's correct that BBC have not one a premiership since 1954 and that year they only played a couple of games because of rain so it hardly counts. Come week 9 against TSS if they are still on top I expect to see some turn out at Miskin oval.

That being said they have close before (2002 I believe) only to come unstuck against Digby Ioane & Terrace... Long way to go yet but a lot of reason to go for the win

That's a suprisingly low amount to have made higher rep honours post school. That team was exceptional, I thought Petaia, Saifoloi, Garland, Taupou and Ika would have played Super Rugby at some point. Never quite know with injuries however CFS, Browning and PAE were definitely standouts.

It would be interesting to see which qld schoolboy 1st XV side from the last 10 years has had the most Super Rugby representatives. Off the top of my head the TSS side from '07 would be up there with Mark Swanepoel, James Slipper, Ben Tapuai, Luke Morahan and Jono Lance. Also had Rob Simmons the previous year. Jeez.

That 2007 year had those Southport players, true, but the entire competition was stacked with talent.

Jake Schatz and Aidan Toua were at Churchie at 2007, Matt To'omua was at BSHS, James O'Connor and Joe Tomane were both at Nudgee.

The years previously had Rob Simmons (as pointed out), Quade Cooper finished Churchie, Albert Anae and Rob Simmons both finished at IGS.

The year before that had Will Genia (BBC), David Pocock(ACGS), James Hanson and Ben Lucas (GT). Brett Stapleton, a former force and reds player (older brother of Nathan Stapelton Sharks NRL player) finished at TSS.

Not a bad little run

EDIT: Lagi Setu, a loyge player for the melbourne storm attended IGS in 2005
EDIT: Ruan Smith, a TGS old boy from 2007 played in the Super Rugby Final last week for the Brumbies

I think the second mention of Rob Simmons as an IGS boy was actually meant to be Rod Davies?

Nevertheless, I was being quite specific in picking a certain year that contained Super XV sides but thanks for elaborating.

The Churchie '06 side had Schatz, Toua and Cooper but didn't win the premiership, I personally thought that side was better than the '05 one. That's a personal opinion though and history shows that '05 was the premiership winning side with the likes of Elliott and Charalambous.

More recently '08 had Eddie Quirk (BSHS), Jarrod Butler (TSS), Dom Shipperley (NC). Then there was '09 with CFS, CB, LFG, PAE.

This seems like too much of a digression, swear I've had a similar conversation on this exact topic numerous times haha.. got to stop daydreaming.

Thanks for the correction, and you're welcome for the elaboration.

While we're on the topic, I was thinking the other day about picking a GPS side to hypothetically play a game.

My list went like this:

1 - Albert Anae (IGS 2006)
2 - Steven Moore (BGS 2000)
3 - James Slipper (TSS 2007)
4 - James Horwill (BBC 2002)
5 - Rob Simmons (TSS 2006)
6 - Liam Gill (GT 2009)
7 - David Pocock (ACGS 2005)
8 - Scott Higginbotham (TSS 2004)
9 - Will Genia (BBC 2005)
10 - Quade Cooper (ACGS 2006)
11 - Digby Ioane (GT 2003)
12 - Ben Tapu'ai (TSS 2007)
13 - Chris Feaui-Sautia (BSHS 2010)
14 - Joe Tomane (NC 2007)
15 - James O'Connor (NC 2007)

16 - Paul Alo'Emile (BSHS 2009)/Ruan Smith (TGS 2007)
17 - James Hanson (GT 2005)
18 - Hugh McMeniman (NC 2001)
19 - Jake Schatz (ACGS 2007)
20 - Eddie Quirk (BSHS 2008)
21 - Ben Lucas (GT 2005)
22 - Matt To'omua (BSHS 2007)
23 - Dom Shipperly (NC 2008) /Rod Davies (IGS 2006)/Luke Morahan (TSS 2007)

Does anyone disagree? Are there any better/more worthy players that graduated from GPS Schools post-2000 that I've not included?

If you were getting real technical they would all be playing in their schoolboy positions. Would also have to base positions on schoolboy form and not post-schoolboys years. I think this side would go alright too.

1. Paul Alo Emile (BSHS)
2. Steven Moore (BGS)
3. James Slipper (TSS)
4. James Horwill (BBC)
5. Hugh McMeniman (NC)
6. Rocky Elsom (NC)
7. Liam Gill (GT)
8. Scott Higgenbotham (TSS)
9. Will Genia (BBC)
10. James O'Connor (NC)
11. Digby Ioane (GT)
12. David Pocock (ACGS)
13. Ben Tapuai (TSS)
14. Chris F'Sautia (BSHS)
15. Luke Morahan (TSS)

16. Albert Anae (NC)
17. Ruan Smith (TGS)
18. James Hanson (GT)
19. Rob Simmons (TSS)
20. Richard Brown (NC)
21. Ben Lucas (GT)
22. Matt To'omua (BSHS)
23. Rod Davies (IGS)/ Dom Shipperley (NC)

Cooper was far too erratic at schoolboy level.

I don't think I could ever leave out Joe Tomane. I saw him in 2007 single handedly turn around a 0-3 half time score to lead 21-3 in just 10 minutes. He scored three tries in the corner untouched. Perfect wingers tries. I was never surprised he was ultimately successful. Just disappointed he took so long to turn his back on the loig.

Still a few out of position!
I believe Stephen Moore and James Hanson played prop at schoolboy level. Also I am not sure Higginbotham played firsts at TSS, even though he has made up for it since!
Would be hard to separate Cooper, O'Connor and To'omua as 10s based on what I saw. They clearly dominated all games I saw them play (they didn't play for "my" school so I only saw them once per year) but would rank JOC (James O'Connor) 3rd and couldn't split Cooper and To'omua. Swanepoel played in a dominant TSS side and may have had better schoolboy form than Genia and from what I saw Jonah Placid brained them at 15.
Great debate though given the great talent that has been around the last 10 years.
I would have to go back to my schoolboy days and remember how dominant Tom Barker was for BSHS. An absolute nightmare to play against in 73 and 74! Can he smile and laugh a bit and translate that to his current team at BBC?

Would get excluded for the red cards he picked up IMO.

Went out to Tennyson on the weekend to watch GT take on TGS. Toowoomba never really looked in the game and failed to take down the Terrace forward runners before they picked up momentum. They really allowed big THP Robbie Green to run, making line breaks up the field. In the forwards, I was particularly impressed with #1 Sam Wilson, he has the workrate of a fourth backrower and can also run with the ball in hand. I can see #13 Te-rupe being the premiere player in the competition next year- he is a talent and will get many rep honours. #10 Horan also had a very solid game and has been one of the standouts so far this season for GT apparently.

He was an amazing schools player, and was the player of the tournament in my opinion, in the Oz Champs in Canberra that year.

Even during the week everybody knew that he was going to league and it was good to find out, eventually, that he was coming back to our code.

I used to watch him play league sometimes when I was switching channels and he was playing.

I used to laugh when the league commentators pronounced his name: Toe-main.

If we take Schoolboy form over professional form, Higginbotham would struggle to make the team given he played 3rd XV and 1sts Soccer at TSS...

At the same time I agree with the majority of your calls. I think Pocock was only a 12 in 2005 because Churchie already had 2 very good flankers and no good 12s. I'm also pretty sure, but not totally, that Pocock played QLD Schoolboys at 7 and not 12, so that would be another avenue to select through.

Higgenbotham only blossomed after school. Based on form, Curtis Browning into #8.

John Aloua (Terrace '96) was a gigantic winger who largely contributed to the undefeated premiership that year. Whilst they had a dynamic pack, he single handedly won them numberous games.

Yes. 2007!was an extraordinary year. Don't forget BBC had Dane Gagai now earning 400k a year at Newcastle Knights and Angus Cotterell of Western Force

Over the years Aloua's schoolboy rugby contributions have come up a few times in conversations I have been a part of. Does anyone know where his rugby career took him after school?

Interested in views on BSHS next game at Home against Nudgee. As I haven't seen Nudgee play this season would appreciate a comment from someone who has seen both teams play as to where the game will be won and lost and why.
