After Lambie's excellent CC final I hope he gets a start byt Meyer will go with Steyn.

So, in a massive twist of irony, a Sharks supporter (me) thinks the Bulls flyhalf should start, and the Bulls supporter thinks the Sharks flyhalf should start.

Ok, I have never been a huge Morne Steyn fan. Here is what I think he still does wrong:

He doesn't always read the game. He is very mechanical, and is prone to miss good attacking opportunities because of it. We've all seen him kick away ball as part of a mechanical plan when there was a 3 man overlap outside him. He also does not have deceptive hands. He still has these issues despite a lot of game time but a lot of it will be down to what Meyer picks him for, and so we come to his positives:

Pressure, pressure, and lack of mistakes. He makes very few mistakes. I can think of just a couple of occasions when he has dropped a ball, and he's had some shocking service from the 9s recently, picking up balls at his feet or over his head. He has huge experience and is able to get out of pressure situations calmly. This is invaluable in test rugby. His defence is not nearly as bad as people make out. I really don't notice him missing many tackles despite being targeted. He also exerts pressure on the opposition with very good field position kicks and good touch finders.

He has formed a good partnership with the midfield and they've played really well during the 4N. I think we have more talented options at 10 but test rugby is about making very few mistakes and getting the core stuff right. Steyn provides this, we just give up a few things in expense.

Mank it's hard to disagree with anything you point out there.

Maybe you are right in that Steyn's biggest asset is that we actually very rarely talk about his performance.

I guess I get sucked in by the fact that Lambie has an ability of sidestepping three people and scoring under the sticks and Steyn doesn't really.

Well to day the noises are that Lambie will start at 15 which I am infinitely more happy about that Kirchner.

Morne play well with FdP. The one man I wont drop is Willie. He made a massive differense to our backline this year. We need his flair but then its up north. Maybe as impact player he'll deliver even more. Habana also played well this year.

Ted Thorn (20)
Agree, Willie should play, he has been the difference this year. Wales will definitely test and pressure him though, so the Boks will have to be ready for this.

On Malherbe, I've noticed Blue and Paarlbok (?) herald him as the next "great white hope" at tighthead. For someone like me who is unaware, was he a destructive scrummager in his schoolboy rugby days, and has now transferred that to the senior level?

Blue and Paarl, sorry fellas but noone has answered question, has Meyer requested meeting with Ref, and does he usually? I know you all got stuck into Gatland for not having meeting, which as far as I can understand not a lot of coaches do, so I assumed you knew that Meyer had one. If he did what do you think he would of asked ref to watch??
Wonder if Link had meeting with Clancy before Pom game and if he did do you think it was good value??

Dan 54 I have no idea there does not seem to be any reports of a meeting.

I'll get stuck into Gatland for any reason.

Did I mention he is whinges worse than a six year old who lost a lolly?

:)

Bairdy:

Paarl can shed more light on Malherbe. I am just going on what i have seen of him and the fact that Pieter de Villiers (our scrum coach who play seventy something tests for the frogs at 3) reckons he is the best thing since sliced bread.

It's the deep end for sure but we have been forced into it. I think it is a year early for him and full expect him to get shunted around a few times. He has two enormously powerful locks behind him so that helps.

The only concern I have is that the shorter props seem to be adapting to the new scrum set a bit better and Frans is quite tall.

Fair enough Blue, I do know that it's not really normal for them to meet, and was wondering what all the fuss was about. If I'd known you were just getting stuck into Gatland (haven't really followed Gatlands comments so don't relly know), I wouldn't of asked. Mind you after CC final I though he may have asked hin to watch Battleship doing hollywoods:D

Meant to add Blue, I really looking forward to this test, I really can't see the Welsh causing Boks too much problem, the style they (and Lions) play is only really effective against teams like perhaps Wallabies etc that don't really like playing physical style games.

Malherbe an x Paarl Boishaaier I know well since schoolboy. He has been a powerfull scrummer since those days and stilll very young for test level. Fatties is like red wine, the older the better and as a 22 year old making his debut he'll be in the deep end against a veteran. If he pass this one, he'll be well on his way.

They have got close to us a few times in our last few meets but I think this is a much better prepared Bok team than we have seen for some time.

They actually got the edge on us at the breakdown since 2011 but this is a better balanced back row with both Louw and Vermeulen playing towards the contact point on attack and defence and the speed of Etsebeth getting us a big body to the point in quick time. We also didn't have Battleship hitting rucks last year.

Dan54

Tim Horan (67)
Couldn't agree more Blue, I actually think Battleship helps balance your backrow as he plays like a combination of a very good 6 and 7 at the breakdown, allowing a little latitude for your loosies to drop of fairly quickly to set up next contact. Etsebeth I think may very well monster the Welsh too.

That's a terrifying Bok team and they should rip Wales a new one on the weekend. That would make me happy, not because I dislike the Welsh (far from it) but because I have a seething dislike for that prick Gatland.

Bokke by 35 points. That squad is red hot with little weakness.

If they take the form from TRC across to Cardiff Arms Park, then Heinke and the Bokke will show off their new recipe for leek chowder. It probably won't be pretty for the Boyos from the Valleys.

Absolutely no way it'll blow out like that. Wales have a shot, I think. I know Meyer has done a fair bit to help the Boks away-game in the 3N, but for EOYT the jury is still out. Packed Cardiff stadium, crowd singing, a lot of the Welsh boys on a high after the lions series - buggered if I'd write them off.

Can't say I agree with the Gatland hate on here either - I think as a coach, it's top top tier. Sure, he whinges a bit and uses the media to try and get under peoples skin, but I guess it's entertaining, if nothing else. The fact I'm from the same part of the world as him (not as in NZ, as in hometown), is purely a co-incidence I tell you, a co-incidence!

The Bokke secret will be in the yellow cards. If Battleship, Flippie, Etsebet and Duanne stay within the laws we'll be OK and should beat them in the physical exchanges. That Bok backline have way to much experience to not produce.

Thanks for the insight, Boet :)

A few Boks playing for the right to feature in the final year before the WC. Will Coenie pull finger now that he has been usurped by Malherbe? Will Malherbe leave anything on the park as he knows this is his chance to solidify a spot in the 23? Ditto Engelbrecht - Fourie, JPP - le Roux, Lambie - Sideshow etc etc.

I'll be very surprised at a mediocre performance being pulled out here by the Boks, (I expect that next week)

Looks like the field will be wet, but no rain during the match: http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin...00.1.03715&hourly=1&yday=312&weekday=Saturday
