Always had a soft spot for the Brumbies, its who I supported before the Rebels came along.

Highlanders, loved Dunedin and seeing Otago rugby was bankrupt a couple of years ago I would not mind them winning.

Can't bring myself to support any of the rest.

I have a question directed to Rebels fans and more or less Force fans as well. I've been a passionate reds supporter for a while now (raised in QLD) but I live in Melbourne and have done so for a while now. So living in Melbourne when the Rebels were incepted I jumped on the bandwagon, I'm a member, attend every match and know every player's name and their mother's. But this is all after my support for the Reds, no matter what, Reds come first. Rebels are essentially my number one team in terms of participation, but still I love it when the Reds wallop the Rebels. So here to my actual question: How can one support the Rebels and forget about their previous allegiances, did you not have a team before they came along? Or was the urge of supporting a locally based team greater than your original team?

I thought this thread was going to be adopt a non-finalist.

A big photo gallery of non-finalists, their heads lowered in defeat. Then a voice over:

The Cheetahs don't know how to defend. Every week their defence is abused by the opposition.

For just $15 a month you can help the Cheetahs improve their defence. Our expert analysis can help them plug that leaky defence.

Things used to be good for the Reds but now they too are a non-Finalist. They don't know where their next try is coming from.

Your $15 a month can help us feed the Reds tries. With the help of Bob Dwyer our programme can fix their stuttering attack.

The little Rebels don't know what finals are like. Something the rest of us take for granted. The Rebels won't be seeing finals this year or any time soon.

But you can change that. Your $15 a month can help the Rebels reach their true potential.

When you adopt a non-Finalist we'll send you an information pack about your chose non-Finalist. You'll also receive regular updates via the GAGR website on the progress of your non-Finalist.

Adopt a non-Finalist today and together we can build a brighter rugby future.

Adopting the Tahs, even went to their match against the Highlanders and caught myself yelling 'Go Tahs' once or twice....

Pic accordingly changed to the MVP.

But born in Sydney... So I guess that means I can totally go for the Tahs! whoop, changing icon.

I've never been that concerned with the tribalism crap, except against the Poms, those smarmy bastards sent my ancestor on a (probably deserved) permanent holiday, never mind it was to a better locale.

In all other cases I support the Wallabies, Tahs and Randwick in that order because it is what I grew up with and they played wonderful Rugby in the 70s, 80s and 90s and I always held out hope to see it again (Thanks Chieka).

That said I watch Rugby, all rugby for the game, and will support generally the underdog, but cheer just as hard for any good play from the other side. In recent times I have cheered for the Reds because they played wonderful rugby.

Just cheer the Rugby.

and the Tahs.

I stand to win quite a bit of cash if the saders win so i really dont care too much if the tahs lose, but given the state of the game in Australia, seeing an Aussie team win a grand final would be a much needed boost. If the Tahs can beat the saders in Sydney it would be the perfect lead in to the Bledisloe both for the players and the support base.

So let's go tahs!

I couldn't stand the Tahs but the tide started to turn a few years back probably as my ingrained dislike for the Reds started to reach new heights :)

Last year they were my official adopt an Aussie side as well as this year.

As for others, this weekend I'll be cheering on the Landers against the Sharks and don't really care about the winner in the other game.

We need Highlanders to win to have any chance of an all AUS final. Highlanders lose and the Tahs will either face the Brumbies or the Chiefs. So pretty sure all of AUS and NZ will be cheering for a Highlanders win this weekend!

So here to my actual question: How can one support the Rebels and forget about their previous allegiances, did you not have a team before they came along? Or was the urge of supporting a locally based team greater than your original team?

Personally, I followed the Reds pre-Rebels, for the simple fact that I lived in Qld for 5 years and that was about as close to a provincial alignment I could get. I never went to a game as I was based in Townsville.

But it never felt like "my" team. It just suited my needs given I love Super Rugby and I need a team to support.

However, the very second the Rebels came into being, I dropped the Reds like a hot potato.

I finally had a team that came from "my" hometown. A team that represented "my" province. A team that I could go to watch week in and week out. A team that I could interact with at functions, training and post-game.

A team to cheer for, and mean it.

That is why I have finished my season at the same time as the Rebels, and why I am relatively indifferent to the other Australian provinces still in the pointy end.

I wish them well, of course, but it's all a bit blah to me. I didn't give a rat's about them all year, and I may have even disliked them a bit from time to time when they played my lads, so how can I pretend to care about them now?

I understand if others feel differently. That's perfectly fine. It's just not me.

Once the Wallabies come back online though, so will I. Big time.

My passion is two-fold; For Super Rugby I am a Rebels man, and for the international season I am a Wallabies man. I prefer to keep my passion concentrated and focused, not sprayed around like a tom cat on heat.

To me that is pretty cut and dried.

I hope that explains it a bit for you.;)

Good explanation daz. I'm the opposite as I live abroad (14 years and counting)...My affinity to the chiefs has really dropped off. I now pretty much support the NZ teams really, and that's that. The chiefs are still the pick of the bunch, and the Crusaders the bottom of the barrel, but I will cheer for Blues, Highlanders & Canes with the 99% the passion I cheer for the chiefs.

I always had a soft spot for the Brumbies before the Super rugby expansion, but I wouldn't say they were "my team" per se. I was happy to see any Aussie team do well because it helped the Wallabies, who are and will always be my main team. I love the Force and fully get into the state vs state thing when the regular season is on, but now that we're out I just want to see an Aussie team take the title, hopefully playing the kind of attacking footy we love to see from the men in gold.

Finally changed my avatar after a couple of years, hope I'm not putting mockers on a Tahs win!

I've jumped on the Waratahs band wagon for the finals.
Who have you adopted and will you change your super rugby avatar to suit?

I've jumped on the Pony bandwagon - being an ex Canberra boy and all, it seems wrong to back anyone else :)
