With Alberts back in the scrum, and a lock pairing of VM & EE we'll do fine up front. de Allende is a problem, as is the loss of FdP.

the median life cycle of a test player is five (?) years.
therefore, a prudent and building coach replaces about 20 per cent of his squad each year.
the trick is to get replacements who are test standard and likely to syrvive five years.
the other way is to get a golden generation and hand onto then as long as possible but, when they all retire t once, accept the crash and wait patiently for regeneration.

Wouldn't that cause a stir in the threads. Plays and looks (in body shape) like Michael Hooper. Too small; too lightweight; runs like a back; doesn't make ten pilfers per game. Too small for a hooker, should play 7.

Roach actually does make quite a few pilfers, admittedly at a lower level of rugby. He did, in fact, play 7 for the Woodies last year, probably somewhat to the detriment of his chances of promotion.

He could go okay as part of the right pack. But that is certainly not the current Wobbs pack.

Yep, there's no chance that Roach would get a run at this stage. But I just wanted to give him a bit of a wrap for his skill in the loose. It has been a long time since we have had a top hooker who is as mobile as he is.

I notice that Tessman has been invited to train with the squad..given it's in Perth he's probably the best man for the job, because if something happens to one of the other 2 late next week it will be just like the old amateur days whereby Josh Mann-Rae gets the call and has to leave the Narromine Services Club and make his way over to get to the ground in time for kick off!

I can remember watching games as a little tacker and the blindside winger fed the lineout. Predominantly sideon overhead throw with the pill tumbling end over end towards the jumper.

I reckon sometime in the mid-late 70's it became de-rigour for the hooker to throw in, but I can't remember precisely when. Certainly by the late 70's, it was the hookers job, and most were using a one armed gridiron type throw. No one was doing the old side on end over end throw, although I think the occasional chap (was it a Froggie or some other NH character) did a sort of two handed underarm lob throw like a half back.

As you say. Aaaah, memories. I'm sure that there will be a Gaggerlander with a more precise memory than mine who could recite the actual evolutionary timeline of lineout throwing.

Mate we've got a young bloke on the Gold Coast, full of promise but a little inexperienced, not overly big but a real goer. He plays for Bond Pirates in the Under 10's
