Tongue in cheek, at least from me Dave.

Whilst I don't agree with some of your views, especially around which club comps professionals should be playing in, it's obvious that you're an intelligent and passionate supporter of both Rugby in general and the Manly Club.

Me too mate, just a sly dig in the ribs.

I know a player who went from struggling to get game time in Dewar Shield 2nd Grade to playing in Shute Shield 2nd Grade after relocating mid season.

It's not like 3rd Grade Shute Shield and anybody who claims that is being disingenuous.

The depth and strength of the weaker teams is probably the biggest gulf. Some of the strongest teams would compete well in the Hospitals Cup for example. The weaker teams would be a huge drop down from the bottom teams in the Hospitals Cup though.

Where the difference is, is that Dewar Shield teams generally have 10-12 really good quality players on the field, whilst Hospitals Cup and Shute Shield have 15. Those couple of weaknesses just aren't there.

I was trying to come up with a reply to the whole Shute/Dewar difference but couldn't nail it. You've done that for me perfectly.

More game time Jordy Jones & Reece get the more I watch Rebels.
I reckon Jordy, & Jones could get some very valuable game time this Saturday down at Manly oval in prep for the Rising's NRC campaign.

A number of players who have played both have suggested the Dewar is like 3rd Grade Shute Shield, I cant pass judgement, can you - have you played in both?

Bourkey?

It's just club rugby in general. It's almost a different sport to what's played at the professional level. It might be because I've no club allegiance, but I really don't care where anyone played. I just want to get the best players exposed to high level rugby as soon as possible.

I think you will find Daves comment is based on a Cadeyrn Neville opinion regularly recent ex rep players play lower grade rugby in Sydney some on form some returning from injury which I don't think would happen in Melbourne. A lot of last seasons NRC players have played a lot of 2s and 3s this season.

So players who couldn't really crack it at the Rebels have made negative comments? How objective...

What I'm most surprised about is that when reading match reports we didn't hear all the stories about the dominant performances of Neville and Gillespie in the Dewar Shield considering that it would have been like 3rd grade, or subbies for them.

Pat Leafa said it last year, couldn't believe the step up from the Dewar.

Nah Train I was referring to;

Pat Leafa said it last year, couldn't believe the step up from the Dewar.

I think we all have very similar goals, but have different roads.

I just hope we all meat at the end goal, I didnt look to raise a debate above, he is my post again;

Ha Ha Ha - Good on him, well deserved, great pick up.

Guys, I'm all for players persuing a career I don't think you will find one post from me that suggest otherwise.

  • I have said that I believe Shute is stronger than Dewar and explained that i reckon all parties could benefit from working together.
  • Yes I want rugby to be stronger Australia wide, and my thoughts and ideas maybe different to people who are bunkered down south.
Good luck Reece, you will kick arse.

Interesting that Manly want to encourage and promote the careers of young fantastic players, and the comments above have a very different attitude.

Really? Has Pat Laefa played Shute Shield since 2012?

Considering he played the entire Super Rugby season in 2014 and then the entire NRC season I'm doubtful the Rebels would have released him to play Shute Shield.

I'm relating to the season he played both in the one season so drew an accurate comparison at the time.
As per my post above - not wanting to debate - nor did my post reflect it.

bye bye - work calls. TWAS you should go back to work to.

Daz is going to either A: Love him or B: Hate you .. there's only 1 Inman

I think it fair to assume I'm going for B, but without the hate.

Besides, I can't afford to buy auction jersey's from 2 fucking players!

:D
