The boy must have been in the running for 1sts or 16a this year its a strange move to make from a rugby power house to top 4 contenders - Is there a new #9 at Nudgee? Or is this more than just a Rugby move?

Anyone know what GPS rules are on "New" Boys to GPS schools as there are a number of these at just about every school, I understand GT had issues with this a couple of years ago when a boy started mid way through the year got named in the 1sts then was told he had to pull out and play 16a

I may be wrong here
The rule is that to play in First xv ( or any First team) if you are on any form of scholarship you must be :
1) grade 11 or below;
2) at school day 1 of that year.
The rule is very easy to get around as ACGS did in 2013 with an Aussie schools prop who started game 2 that year. All it takes is a parent or benefactor paying the fees that year: then , of course , you are not on a scholarship.

Are we assuming the change is scholarship not just a kid needing or wanting a new school?

The Churchie parent is a former Wallaby with cash to burn (he previously offered to BUY the QRU), whose kid was in the same Queensland U15 side in 2013. He offered to pay for the Prop, who attended one of the Gold Coast League state schools, to attend Churchie to bolster the front row.

In other Gold Coast news, TSS lock Angus Blyth has been offered $180k to play AFL for the Gold Coast Suns next year. According to Tim Horan, he's never even played before!

Looks like Rugby League aren't the only code scouting GPS Rugby

I would not read too much into the trials this weekend. NC are taking a big squad down with a few out & will rotate plenty.
Dad at BBC told me they have 5 or 6 1st team players not going because of injury or other comittments. 2,3,9,12 from last year who are back this year will not be there he says.

GT have been very quiet this weekend. I hear there was a trial against Sunshine Coast Grammar - could that be the reason I wonder?

Any word on the GT starting team from what I hear Tom Kelly who played 6 last year has put on 30kgs+ and is looking for a hard earned spot in the GPS 1 team?

Im sorry, is this a joke. I understand that Ippy have some good talent but really? Grammar have it in the bag IMO.

Pffft Grammar, Ippy definitely have the talent this year in the firsts and the 16s. Did you see the size of the player in the 15Bs last year?

Honestly I think you are all wrong. I believe Ippy has the prem this year no doubt. After a tough season last year they are firing back hard and ready to go

There is a huge Nudgee Squad coming down to TSS this weekend. I think they have a good team this year. With about 10 players who have played last year. They should be pretty good.

Really,.

Its a big pity(read : disappointing) they have had only "one" (1) under 16 team for last 3 years. You better hope they get no injuries my friend.

\

Ippy barely have enough players for a B team. They also won 3 games in the 16s last year and finished last in the firsts. They struggle to get their kids to training. It's not happening, not until a lot of things at that school that have nothing to do with rugby are looked at.

Talent they may have, but they won't be able to compete with the likes of TSS, etc.
