Another week, another NRC success story. Brisbane City’s huge no.8 Isa Naisarani has turned some heads this season and next year he’ll be playing Super Rugby. The Fijian big man from Souths won’t be with the Reds though. The Western Force snapped Naisarani up first, so he’s off to Perth.

It's almost as if the Brumbies were first to market as an 'expansion team' and were able to pinch players from the big states with no Australian competitors. Then, dined out on the reputation from those results ever since.

Good get! The Force have plenty of good back rowers but lack the 'wide roving' loosie that you love to get 1-on-1s for. Start him from day 1 I say!

Nasairani is an awesome get! Shame that at only 21 yrs and killing it in premier rugby, he goes unnoticed, but if you are a GPS kid, and get in Qld u20 / play under the right coach then you can get a Reds contract. He is offering a hell of a lot more then a stack of teenage kids who are just in the right place at the right time.

A contract is a contract. This is what the NRC is about, talent ID.

The Reds/Tahs can't sign all of the good players playing locally.

My only question is - is he currently Aussie qualified or it is a Sefa situation?

Qld can't sign everyone. Successful teams have development pathways who churn through lots of young blokes to produce the ones who can go on. They also let a lot of very good footballers go for various reasons. There are limited spots after all. There are flaws in that approach, but it is a bit like democracy - the worst possible system, except for all the others. The bigger problem with Qld Rugby IMO has been the coaching which doesn't seem to be developing this young talent to its potential.

I see this signing as an absolute positive in so many ways -
- the NRC has given a young bloke a chance to make it as a pro rugby player even though he has missed out on the normal pathways
- the Western Force is giving extra opportunities to impressive young blokes in positions we really need to improve our depth
- Nasairani will get to work develop under Hodgeson & McCalman - two established hard heads who have been very good at super rugby level

It's fantastic that the Force seems to be generating some real success out of their home rugby program, but equally they seem to be scouring far and wide to pick up the next generation of young talent. I know they have eyes on young talent in Qld Country at least which is falling outside the traditional QRU pathway. Seems a win win to me.

Allan Gaffney rumoured to be joining the Force as an attack consultant.

After a bit of a lull while the administration transitions through the ARU alliance agreement, the wheels appear to be back in motion as we build towards next year.

Wasn't Waugh the year above at school and realistically that is why he ended up with the Tahs and Smith to the Brumbies?

Nah, Jones liked Smith, snatched him from under the Tahs noses. IIRC, the Tahs were looking at both of them.
