Really enjoyed the 10s. I think it'll be bigger and better next year.

Maybe a few less stars for fear of injury.

Not a fan of the marquee ex-players. The final was serious rugby. Not sure they're needed to bring fans for future versions.

Loved the comp - the crowd was pretty well behaved & it was a cracking atmosphere.

Pity about the few injuries at the end though....

To me it was a bit like the inaugural NRL 9's in that most teams weren't too sure how the game was meant to be played. To borrow H35's analogy, I think next year teams will treat it more as fast XV's than slow 7's, that having been the winning strategy this year. Again, as much as I was unconvinced at first it did grow on me.

enjoyed the tens, others may disagree but I find it much more entertaining than sevens.

If I could predict the weather, would probably head up next year.

Being at the ground, I found the second day much more entertaining, the first day was very different to today and very scrappy which is highlighted a lot more at the ground. The second day teams seemed to build some game plans rather than trying to play touch footy (which they were shit at).
I think it can be a successful tournament... in a colder month, it was way too hot to watch, let alone play rugby in.

I think a lot of teams didnt really know how to play either, they were playing a mash of 7's and XV's.. To my knowledge this is probably the highest level that 10's has been played at, so probably little for the teams to reference for what has worked in the past. That seemed to have changed a little by Day 2 as the teams learned of each others success, so hopefully that flows over into next season as well...

In other news, the NRL is now looking at holding the Nines the weekend before the 10's, having them on consecutive weekends in Brisbane. Knowing Duco they will probably only sell 4 day passes across both weekends.

To be fair I thought promotion and marketing wise they did some things right. I really liked the idea of throwing in some of the stars of yesteryear and attendance numbers look pretty decent given the temperatures we've had. the 7s tour took a few years to build up a good following so its not a bad start. As long as the event doesn't lose money I'm hopeful we'll see something similar next year.

Agree that they should maybe rethink how they tout the event. If it becomes a main stay I'd suggest they build it up more as a preview to the upcoming season. It's a chance to see the wide squad members introduce themselves to the fans so maybe profile some of the younger unknown talents that are staking a claim to a spot. I liked the interviews between the games with guys like George Smith and Moore and I'd maybe like to see more discussion about where teams are at, running throw the line ups for the upcoming season etc. Maybe do a "legends match" on the final day, with just retired players, or if youre going to do it at Suncorp again, maybe an allstar nsw v qld exhibit match thrown in there. There's various ideas they could explore.

My big recommendation for next year (if they do in fact decide to return to Suncorp) would be to consider making it a 3 day event. Do a 4 hour show on Friday night (cheap tickets - maybe $20) and then on Saturday start at 2:30pm and run through to 9:30pm. It makes the weather much more bearable and might help ticket numbers

I think the attendance was excellent considering the heat wave as how can't underestimate how many fans that would have put off. As even with 7,s last week in Sydney whilst sold out because of the heat the stands were never as full at any time the previous year and not as hot as this weekend. So would like to see it run again next year and hopefully not on hottest weekend on record to judge whether this competition has legs.

So did it make a profit as if it did with the heat challenges that would be a good start.

I'm also still outrageously confused as to why they ran with 2x 4 team pools and 2x 3 team pools.

Would it really be so hard to field another two teams? I think it made the tournament sloppy and biased towards certain pools.

They could've done Premier Rugby Barbarians from QLD and Shute Shield Barbarians from NSW.

Or ITM Cup Barbarians and NRC Barbarians. Or Lloyd McDermott graduates. Or u20 Aus Barbarians, or u21 Aus Barbarians or ANYTHING of that ilk.

If they had a bunch of not-yet-professional QLD boys running around I'm sure it would've got all their families and friends along to see how they shaped up against the pros.

They just need to work on embedding the tournament into the community a bit better and including these sorts of teams would definitely do it.

Improvements for next year _ I'm.fairness to organise 10 teams for first up tournament pretty good effort.

Could actually workout as WR (World Rugby) are reportedly cojsidering moving the Sydney 7s forward to either the week currently occupied by Wellington or even the week before.

The talk is that the Wellington and Sydney sevens will swap weekends. Sydney wants to keep the women's event which ideally means the tournament begins on Friday (guys and gals). They can't do that if there is an event the week before (must have a 5 day turnaround). But if Sydney was first All would be good.

So it would be:

Sydney Sevens

Wellington Sevens / NRL Brisbane 9s

Brisbane Rugby 10s.

Enjoyable weekend of viewing. First day was a little scrappy but once teams started playing more Rugby it really hit its straps. Hopefully next year will see strong growth and a lot less heat.

Good 10s is always better than 7s imo. More like 15s in structure and physicality. I'm a fan of 7s particularly as an entry vehicle but I think 10s would appeal more to many. If the ARU were ever to try and emilate the BBL with a product then 10s would be it in my opinion.

I didn't watch the 9s this year but in previous years I flicked in and out and I freely admit bias but the 10s were better.

I'm not sure how that would work with a scratch side representing all NRC or SS teams, or anything like that. Seems to me that all participating teams should/must be club based.

The unequal groupings this year apparently contributed or may have caused the result where a team with one win made the quarter finals in front of other(s) with two wins in the round robin. While that parallels somewhat the ridiculous system in place for the Super rugby competition, it is hardly fair or equitable.

The simplest solution for more teams would be to invite either more Top League teams or Sth African teams. Hell, invite a team from the USA even.

Well Shiggins if you were actually a rugby man you would of enjoyed the Wales/English test, it was an absolute cracker!
You really should try and learn about rugby, if you actually watch the game it really is the most brilliant sport around!!

I think I heard them say Brumby that winning team got 160K, but not sure of that.
