Ok. So. Basic things are basic. Breakdown. Fucking pathetic. If one was coaching an under 12 team, this would be the game to show them: Body height, entering through the gate, protecting the pill.

The backline: what have they spent the fucking summer doing? When you play behind your front pods, they need to actually clear a path so 10 can actually distribute the thing to his wider/deeper options. This did not happen.

I suspect McGahan had that same feeling as the dreams where he's suddenly back at school/uni and there's an exam and he's done zero preparation. Poor bugger.

Or at the very least Australian's. That match made me genuinely fear for the sport here.

I feel the same, it's so sad for Aussie rugby. Another season like 2016 and the ARU must cut to 3 teams. Brumbies, the most succesfull Aussie side looks poor with many rookies. The only hope are Reds and Waratahs to make the finals. The Reds are a mistery so far, they only beat a poor Rebels side, so we dont know if they can compete against the Kiwis

Yep felt a bit for the Rebel's supporters last night, because I actually thought the Blues were bloody poor in the first half and Rebels didn't really take advantage. As probably a lot of us thought when the Blues kicked it up in second spell they were very hard to hold. Obviously we all saw Reiko Ioane, and how well he went (and I suspect will be final thing to push Fekitoa overseas), but I was also pleasantly surprised at Arika's workrate, hopefully he realises one of reasons Shag had Reiko in the ABs last year, the kid is always trying to be involved. Luatua looks like he might be up for another good season. Also liked the work Jimmy Tupou, like the way he plays for Counties and did same last night.

Have to add as most will know I don't like criticsm of refs, but can I say I really like the way Angus Gardiner handles a game, very very good in my opinion!

Reports emerging that Pitcairn Police received a record number of noise complaints last night all centred on one house.

Dismal hasn't partied like that since Tana Umaga was still playing.

I heard they won't enter the house until their polilight is fully charged, due to the high likelihood of, ahem, Pillocky fluids all over the computer room.

Neighbours reported hearing a persons "cries" on several occasions accompanied by what they believed were shots. One neighbour was reported as saying it sounded similar to "celebratory gunfire" while another neighbour wearing a Crusaders jersey stated she wasn't worried as based on past history the shots were most likely blanks. Authorities did confirm that they will not enter the premise without a polilight based the history of the occupant.

As the match unfolded I mused on what effect Koroibete's presence would have had on that team.

"None" was my answer. Okay, I assume that buying him was basically the ARU's call, and Melbourne was the obvious franchise to park him in, ex-Storm and so on.

But what a waste for all parties, unless the Rebels can get their act together in a real hurry.

That was the most depressing start to the Soup season I can remember.

Not much with a performance like that but you could say the same for any of the missing players.

Certainly Placid is one of the players who isn't up to it so Korobeite would have been a big upgrade there.

Koroibete wouldn't have made an impact no.

But maybe Toby, Chibba, Jeffries, Day, McMahon, Inman, Sefa, Koroibete in the side and Stirzaker not going off with a head knock after 20ish minutes would have made a little bit of difference.

Ah well, that second half was just about the worst I remember at a home game, maybe it's just a matter of time now.

I thought Gardner did a good job with the whistle and let the game flow well.

BH I disagree here. Although the penalty count finished well in favour of the Rebels, it was in the first half where I think Gardner confirmed he is our worst referee when a Australian team is involved. He missed more than a few breakdown infringements by the Blues early in the game but was diligent in picking up Rebels' transgressions. It seems to me that he overcompensate for being Australian when one of our teams is playing.

Went to the game in high spirits, left realising its going to be a long season.

A few points to cover.

- Can we start attacking the ball once its put in the air, our ability to defuse any kick, esp in midfield will lead to teams box kicking against us all season.
- Seriously lacked ability to play whats in front of them (typical aus team these days), some of the passing decisions were shocking.
- JGB didn't look upto standard, I actually thought he was close to worst on the field. But it's his first game, so willing to forget this one.
- Why is Jordi running the wide channel? Now not bemoaning the tactic of havign a loose forward out there, but surely of the 3 picked Jordi was the least equipped skill wise. I am a big fan of Jordi but he is best in tight, getting his head over the ball and providing energy in the middle. I'd have Mafi playing this wide channel next time round.
- Lineouts = horrendous, but what do you expect with the players selected.
- Decision making when it comes to kicking was shocking. They either hold the ball when they should kick and then when they do kick its pointless. So many times there was space in behind, but the option to swing it to isolated player out wide was decided instead.
- Meehan (who i am a fan of) does not fit JGB style from the look of it and vise versa.
- Back row played with the right intent, however execution was poor. Tight 5 had passengers, Timani was solid and i saw Weekes get involved a little. The rest i wouldn't even know if they were on the field, except for Leafa who was only noticed for his comical throwing.
- We need to play so much more flatter. Our best back runs a great line, yet was deployed 10m behind the gain line.

Positives
-.........................
- i thought JD looked goodish at fullback.
- English played ok
- Scrum didn't get man handled like i thought it might.
-............................
- It's week one

After that i am glad i gave up my membership of this joke of a team , they should drop them from Super Rugby , same stupid game plans , why kick for goal ( and miss ) when you can go for tries and build pressure , that so called No 10 ( fat cat ) needs to loose 5-10 kg , man bun is not up to this level , Fainiga is a lightweight , Lions led by donkeys , i hoped Morgs would have helped ,, TT is just not up to the job , AGAIN ,, Timani has improved ( is it just me or does he have good safe hands ) Mafi i liked Jordy ok at times ( great chargedown ) but the rest should refuse their match payments and piss off to another sport ,, will get smashed next week and all year , hopeless ,,,, AGAIN

Have to agree in relation to Garden-Bachop: there's more Garden than Bachop.
Funny thing is he never set the NPC alight so it surprises me that anyone thought he could cut it a tier above.
The position as I understand it is: Brums dont have an oz 10 they can trust, rebels down have an oz 10 they can trust and the Force have Lance playing 10.
we are in deep shit in this country
