too early to know whether this team will be any good, but i like what i saw from this game. The team looks much more well rounded than previous years. The most positive thing was to see the younger players in the squad stand out. Thought the likes of Korcyck, Tuttle, Paiaaua and Perese really stood out. Nice to see when the real hype around this team has come from the quality of their veterans. And those guys showed their value also. the likes of Higgers and Smith showed their value and the bench gave the type of impact u want.

The Richard Graham era is hopefully in the rear view mirror

I came, I screamed. We conquered! Got told to tone it down by 10 decibels by stadium members. Ignored them. Continued screaming for us. Got the result I was shouting about! Good times!

The keys to success is - just keep winning!

I don't remember Perese getting on.

My thoughts:

  • Quade was shit in the 1st half, but improved in the 2nd.
  • Kerevi - awesome
  • Pickle was shocking (stop boxkicking FFS!). Floggn was on to something when he suggested getting Sanchez back
  • Forwards were good (bar Squeak)
  • Execution needs to be better (but they had the right ideas)
  • Ditto goalkicking
  • Wings were okay I thought
  • Hunt and Paia'aua were excellent.
  • All in all, a decent start, but a fair bit to work on

When did we last score 4 tries?

To early in the season for shocking Ref decision, but watching that game live it was shocking and inconsistent.

To be fair, they did explain that his confusion arose out of a new rule where he has to determine whether the onfield decision is try or no try first. He was obviously trying to figure out who gets the benefit of the doubt in a rolling maul. I wouldn't have known straight away either.

The touch judge indicated that he saw the ball grounded. The referee was also playing advantage for the maul being collapsed immediately prior. Listening to him in the rugby ears I got the impression he might have been going to go for a penalty try if the TMO saw anything that meant the try wasn't going to be awarded.

Those members need to pull their heads in. If they don't like the noise they can fn stay at home and watch it there.

Frisby was poor tonight. Serial kicks out on the full. (Although one may have been because of the line out happening on the 22 and the lack of clarity from the ref about the ball supposedly being taken back)

He also ran to the side after receiving the ball from the back of a maul away from the protection and tried a box kick. No wonder it was charged down!

I thought his passing was erratic, particularly early on. Mr Tuttle showed this up particularly. His passing was flat and accurate when he came on.

The Reds bench was strong. Even Jake seems to have developed over the break. He played much flatter than he did last year.

Kerevi needs to stay fit all season.
Combinations for a new team looked good at times, will get better.
Quades goal kicking, seen him miss plenty of times not worry, will work hard on his kicking for the coming weeks. But keeping a close eye on him, the boys will get to know him.. But Coopers rugby knowledge is fantastic, part of his game he gets no praise for. Fuck wits at Fox Sport already had a blooper role done by the 1st half on social media. Quade and Hunt worked well together. Can't recall exactly, but from a Ruck , Hunt Ran pass QC (Quade Cooper) tapped his shoulder and a play was on. Reds nearly went over. I think Red fans except a lot from him , but don't really watch what he dose.
Frisby meh,
Tuttle and Cooper looked better, excited when he came on. Help set up and score a try with in minutes on getting on the field.
Young Reds look good. Let hope they stays.
And with the Shorks scoring really early, Reds never got back in the game. But still one.
With Lambie killer boot tonight, It was good to see the team scoring the most tries still won, even though QC (Quade Cooper) and Tuttle dropped around 15 points.
1 from 1.... all ready pass RG, ;)

I love the optimism both here and in the R1 match thread. It's fun to go a bit over the top too but if anyone is genuinely thinking that the Reds will win tomorrow by a lot then keep in mind that:
  1. It's round 1. There will be 'rust'. There will be wayward passes, dropped ball and miscommunication at times; and
  2. It's forecast to be 31 and humid tomorrow. Minimum only getting down to 21 deg. I think. The ball will be like soap.
I think we should win, but I think it could be a scrappy and/or frustrating game to watch in terms of a spectacle. As long as we find a way to win then I'll be happy.
Alright, I'll stop being the fun police now. As you were.

This guy really knows what he's talking about! :D

But seriously, that was a good game. That was the sort of game we needed in round 1. Lots of good stuff there but plenty to work on. You don't win the championship in round 1.

Frisby is deserving of his criticism but I think a few of you are going a bit over the top on the rest of the players, and the level of criticism is more indicative or your perhaps over inflated expectations rather than how the players performed.

First win at home done. Next challenge, the Force away. Baby steps.

WE ARE RED!!!!

The reason why I missed watching the try finish... Here is Stiles reaction directly after the try when he noticed that Cooper is down clutching his knee. I noticed it straight away and didn't take my eyes off Cooper. Second Doctor rocked up and my Reds heart just sank. Stoked when he got up and Ran back...

I'm interested to see if the judiciary looks further into Kane Douglas' yellow card.
Precedent saw Pocock get 3 weeks and Speight 5 weeks for a similar offence. The difference with Kane Douglas tonight, is he had more venom and intent.
