I agree that Joeys and Kings will be strong in 2018, but with the tendency for some schools (not all, in 2016 anyway) to play kids of u16s age up a level, i dont think 16As results are a strong indicator of future 1st XV potential anymore.

Take Scots 2016 u16 age group for example. Jeremy Williams, Will Harris and Brett Wellington were all u16s age in 2016 and all played mostly in opens, mostly in 2nds, although Will Harris played a couple in 1sts as well.

All benefited hugely from that experience and have been dominant performers this year, all making NSW 1 or 2 .

.

That said, anyone know who is winning (has won) 16As this year? Is it Kings?

Winner of joeys and Riverview will take out the 16's.

Joeys 1 draw (scots)
Scots 1 draw (joeys) and 1 loss (newington)
Riverview 1 loss (scots)
Newington 2 losses (Riverview and joeys)

Don't think Kings have won a game in 16's - maybe beat shore

So long sorry short - winner takes at all at hunters hill in the 16s

thanks again SS for the vid. Scots defense was immense for most of the game and probably the main difference. It's something New should learn from because New showed promise but simply leak too many points. Scots deserved the win.
Kings must be disappointed after beating Scots also by 3 in a trial, maybe only a month back and I'm sure would love a Round 2 chance. Scots 14 needs to be careful with brain snaps because am I correct in saying any attack to the head is technically a card? Admitedly, if I was the Kings coach I would have had a quiet word to the outside backs to try to get under his skin given his history. Maybe someone could help me with this - is it possible that the ref didnt card him because it was after the try was scored? does it make any difference if the infringement occurs during play or after a stoppage?

Generally 16's play at 11am on joeys main field. 15s usually at 10am

Correct 15As at 10.00 am on SJC1

Expect schedule all Joeys V Riverview to be as follows on SJC#1:

15A 10.00 am
16A 11.00 am
4th XV 12.00 pm
3rd XV 1 pm
2nd XV 2.00 pm
Ist XV 3.15 pm

Most likely will be games from 8 am on SJC1!

Just as well you aren't the coach 'one eyed pirate'.
The underhand tactic you openly advocate and applaud has no place in rugby. We can certainly do without it in schoolboy rugby. The reaction of the Kings number 13 to the softest of contact in response to his provocation said it all......he touched me, he touched me...sir..sir....
If we allow this sort of carryon before long we'll have them collapsing in a heap and writhing in agony at a gust of wind like the soccer players.
Have you thought about coaching soccer one eyed pirate......it may be better suited to your playbook?

A soft tap on the left upper arm of the Scots player responded by a well placed and very swift right cross to the jaw...Gee I dunno if I would call a tap like that from the King's player provocation. It looked good natured to me and was met with an out of proportion response. But what would I know. I only looked at the video. P.S. I support no team so I will now bugger off....

The kings player barely felt the contact.
Easy to see that from his reaction.
Running away in no discomfort whatsoever.
He seemed far more concerned in trying to milk a penalty.
Yassmin is a big fellow.
A 'well placed and very swift right cross to the jaw' as you describe it, would have felled him.
Both the referee and linesman were right there and judged the contact to be minimal.
They didn't even speak to Yassmin.
There are some on this thread that find this difficult to accept.
Let it go gentlemen....let it go.....

Sure will. I guess if he intended to hurt he could have posted him to Siberia and back given his size. The wack was a beautiful thang tho'. Instant and direct....no hesitation. Gotta admire the skill.

I think that's a bit rich. Drawing that conclusion.

Over what time frame? For the record, there is no 16As competition. So claiming there is now one over 5 rounds is no more accurate than looking at the results over any other timeframe.

But looking at the whole season, Scots 16As beat Riverview twice. And they had a win and draw against Joeys.

Can't see then how winner of Joeys v View this Saturday could hand and heart declare themselves the best 16As team this season.

Well one would assume it follows the broader gps program and is now offically a formal 1 round comp so on that basis it is fair. Can't claim different rules for 16s and opens to suit scots as joeys first xv beat scots in first trial round but that doesn't count so unfortunately rich e looks like the winner of the 16's this time will be joeys or Riverview.
Don't agree with one round comp all up but that is another topic of conversation.
And I know there is not a formal competition for the 16's and below for the record but everyone knows the results

Gents how about we agree that 16A has been a very tight and competitive (non) competition.o_O

Following this weekends results the following teams would be considered the most successful of the 5 round (non) comp

If Joeys beat View, Joeys will have had 1 draw and 4 wins
If View beat Joeys, View will have had 1 loss and 4 wins
If Scots win, the best they can come up with is 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss

Putting it another way, if Joeys win, the boys will get Premiers pennants from the school. If they don't win, they wont.

Rest assured the boys from ALL schools (more likely parents as well) will know the results.;)

I hear you ACS and dont disagree that many still think of it as a comp. And IMO its a shame its not. But thats another topic again.

I just wanted to make the point, for those not familiar with the system, that there is no official comp for 16As and other age groups and i think that's now very clear.

I didn't realise Joeys handed out premiers pennant (edit: changed to pennants). Good on them. Wow. That would be a long presentation ceremony :)

Ha ha, very good Rich_e. Joeys have their Winter sports Rally (speech day for sport) on this Saturday night and they celebrate the success of all teams, even soccer . The pennants are keenly sought after and reward for effort from the boys.

They have 4 rallies a year; Summer, Rowing, Winter and Athletics. Always on the Saturday of the event or the final round. So a long day......

Hardest thing for me to get my head around when first introduced to the GPS system was that there is only 3 recognised competitions in Rugby; Firsts, seconds and thirds.

Agreed. Good summary. Once again noting for the record the stupidity of a 5 round comp. well put armchair selector
