Wasn’t there only 11,000 in Brisbane for the Brumbies match?

In Brisbane...

Given the highest profile player was dropped, Karmichael Hunt arrested, Higgers and Tui banned and following a week where they were flogged by 45 points, that crowds about where I expected it to be.

Rebels have added a whole lot more in marketing power and talent to the roster then the Reds in the off-season, and with a favourable deal with the government which sees ticket prices half that of what they are in Brisbane I think its absolutely fair that the Rebels should be attracting some quite decent crowds.

Cottrell is apparently the only injury concern from this week.

If Marika is fit, I'd imagine that he'd be into the 23 and Colby into the starting side.

Honestly, I'm impressed by the 11k all things considered. Also that 'just get it done' type win will do more for the crowds than either of the Rebels type of wins.

On that, what is the consensus on the Rebels two from two is always good to see, points difference is really impressive, but they weren't exactly impressive until their non-selfmade advantages were well and truly established.

I personally have them pegged around the Waratahs and Brumbies. What do others think.

Coming onto a Rebels thread to ask us our consensus on the Rebels? Well, if a sample response that is clearly biased is what you are after, let me kick things off:

We stuffed the Reds (home) and Sunwolves (away) with bonus point wins in the first two games of the year. While anything is possible for the remainder of the season, I’d say that is a pretty good start.

Oh, I don't disagree you can only beat the teams in front of you, but at the same time there does look to be the possibility of the Rebels being a flat track bully, they didn't really appear to assert their dominance until after their numerical advantages really started to take hold. Not saying they are bad just maybe those wins might not be entirely representative of the teams ability. Although at this point they can't be as bad as last year so they literally have nothing to lose.

Yeah, because crowds at a rugby game hate seeing lots of tries scored.

I think the Reds fans really needed to see that this team will guts out games more than they needed to see electric and erractice play. I know everyone loves to see tries, but I think most people agree they want to see their team win more.
The other thing about the Reds is it wasn't that they weren't trying to score, it was that they couldn't not take the points when the Brumbies were infringing 30 odd out right in front. In the context of Queensland fans I think at this point being competitive counts for more than being spectacular. It's not that Queensland lack fans, so they don't need to attract people to games, they already want to go, if the teams going to be competitive.

To contrast this, I think Melbourne are a good example of a team that because of the supporter base they need to be flashy and pull people in, Melbourne are going to have to do twice as well to attract half as many spectators to the games as a team like the Reds. But if the Rebels can find something extra at that 10 position they should go well.

Rebels are to be congratulated on their first couple of games.

Things are looking good ATM.

Will be interesting as the season progresses to see if some inevitable injuries to a couple of key players
exposes a lack of depth (as it usually does for most teams).

Completely agree. I’ll leave my thoughts on - whether the Reds not scoring tries is good enough - on the Reds thread.

Rebels look to me to be one position from the full Monty. The 10. And they seem to be working through it. They have a coach that everyone has confidence in - but odd if you think about his actual experience, but I like him too.

It’ll be good to see Rebelsa against Saffer and Kiwi opponents.

Based on year on year improvements, Rebels have everything to celebrate right now.

JD has been quite fine, lots of hard markers. I

Maddocks has a lot of backers and you can see why . Time on the wing with the chance to do playmaking is great for his development. Will he be the next Larkham indeed?

I've only seen Maddocks play a bit of 10, and didn't think it suited him. He didn't seem to be a playmaker. He's a rare talent that is devastating at 15, and Killing it on the wing at the moment. His has the ability to counter attack so effortlessly, and has a knack of popping up in support play. Add to that his tremendous boot, he's the total 15 package. I just think he'd be wasted at 10

Maddocks has the potential to be Australia's answer to D Mac (I stress potential there and not saying he ever will be, before anyone jumps on their high horse). Personally don't think he is a 10 and will end up being a very good 15.

JD has been fairly good without being brilliant in both games. When compared to the other Aus 10s he's been about the same level.

On the Rebels form, it's fantastic they have won but 2 wins don't make a summer. Just like the Reds win against a very inept Brumbies side, it was tough and encouraging but nothing more.

As for crowds for the whole season, it's 2 weeks in after an entire preseason of negativity, after the season of horror, in a game that struggles for content against its major rivals, in a sport with a perception problem, with fans that are happy to stick the knife in in the bad times but equally happy to stick the knife in during the good times, governed by an old boys club with petty state rivalries and plenty of fans that have the same state rivalry blinkers on. So in other words lets judge crowds towards the end of the season as they are going to be rather average from all teams until some of this is rectified. On the whole i think all clubs are doing a 'better' job than last season, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

By seasons end success from crowds would be the following.

Rebels - 1+ crowd of 15k
Reds - 1+ crowd of 20k
Tahs - 1+ crowd of 20k
Brums - 1+ crowd of 15k

Its been a fairly good start to the season if we are looking at results. The performances might not be as good as the results, but the results are all that matters. Lets be happy for christ sake, we have played 4 overseas teams this year and haven't lost a game. All 4 teams have a win and each team has shown something, Reds have gritt, the Tahs have guts, the Brums can grind a win when they aren't playing well, and the Rebels can score points.

Looking forward to this weeks Brums game.

Really? That makes you weary? Potential news of a major sponsorship for “your” team?

Coming from from one of the leading Rebels conspiracy theorists, who appears to be death-riding the very team you profess to support, your comment is frankly laughable.

I'd always assumed lou was actually a Force fan who just had a Rebels supporter logo so he could get away with shitposting about the Rebels more easily.

Kind of like Kiwi rugby lover who posts prolifically on the front page who I don't think is actually a Kiwi.

This sort of deep psy-ops shit is what this forum needs more of, imo.

You are too funny.
I do support the Rebels - players - not administration obviously.
I do not and never have supported the Force - but the ARU shafted them IMO.
I have never shitposted the Rebels playing group.
I regularly shitposted the previous coach and may continue on another forum page.
I have stopped shitposting the current administration after notice that no one on this forum cares.
Loved the game on the weekend.
Looking forward to the Brumbies game

Does it count for both the Reds and the Waratahs, if the Reds vs Waratahs game has 20k+ because if the Reds have a halfway decent chance of getting up they'll probably make that.

Fuck we love to hate the 'Tahs.
