Well, Karmichael is apparently going to be available at some point. (Article here paywall :( ).

The ARU are likely to allow him to play, but if the Reds play him or not is probably a different question isn't it, with Toua playing well and Lance looking to be an option at 15 if needed; is likely to be Hunt brought back?

2 very different issues at play; 1 on field and 1 off field.
I would be surprised if Brad welcomes him back. Can't see Brad being a huge fan of star players being out in the Valley at 3am with that sort of attention.

I still think Hunt has played no where near the level of his pay scale.

He's paid much more than Kerevi and heaps more than C FS and a shitload x 3 than Duncan.

Plus there is that "cultural" issue that no doubt BT would have letting the bloke back into this youngish group

At least when he was first signed Karmichael was as much a signing to play as he was to bring people to watch. It's the classic 'sign a good player' at the expense of the team. It's flawed logic but has some logic to it, the only way to bring the fans back is to perform on the field.
I think Karmichael would be better than anyone else on our roster at the moment, but I think the 'no dickheads' policy coupled with the disruption to team chemistry are probably enough to let him go.
Although ironically Higgers last year and Smith this year both had more punishments than Hunt for his offence.

^^^^
The Higgers incident where he "assaulted" a so called copper was chucked out because Higgers had a slice of pizza in each hand at the time.

The Smith incident was also a bit of a joke (in Australia) but taken much more seriously in Japan (same as minor dope chardes here compared with Asia in general) which is fair enough.

IMO Hunt is a bad fit for a team of enthusiastic young blokes and a coach building a culture to stand us in good stead over the coming years.

It will come down to Thorn, if he can use him and if he wants him he'll stay. Otherwise it's another payout I would assume.

Charges were not brought against either of Higgers or Smith as I understand. Just what punishments were handed out to them for non-offences?

Sorry, I was meaning criminally, Higgers had a few thousand dollars in fines (IIRC) and Smith was held for like 21 days or something. Hunt had a $300 or $600 fine (IIRC). I was more trying to say Smith and Higgers according to the law at least did way worse stuff.

I think Hunt won't be playing for the Reds, maybe not even the Wallabies, again.
Maybe the Reds can knock up a package deal to send them to Europe 'buy one Hunt get a Cooper free!'

From the article, it seems Hunt is unwanted.

Rugby Australia offers Hunt a penalty

Wallabies and Queensland back Karmichael Hunt is understood to have been offered a penalty by Rugby Australia for bringing the game into disrepute which he must accept or face a Code of Conduct hearing. But, either way, it will be possible for him to play rugby in Australia this year.
Yet just because it will be possible for him to play doesn’t mean he actually will. The Queensland Rugby Union still is understood to be anxious to move him on to either Europe or Japan. And if Hunt digs in and decides to remain with the Reds, then the issue becomes one of whether he will be picked.
All indications are that the Reds feel so strongly that he has let the organisation down — after being given a second chance after pleading guilty in court to four counts of possessing cocaine in March 2015 — that they would be prepared to pay him not to play.
It is a costly option and one the Reds are already doing in the case of Quade Cooper — him, for no reason other than Queensland coach Brad Thorn’s belief that the side would be better off without him. In Hunt’s case, however, it is understood the QRU has a hefty mail bag of letters from sponsors and fans opposed to the fullback ever wearing the Reds jersey again.

And fair enuff.

I think the QRU have already viewed him as gone. One of the members thought the Reds had already made this decision; this could just be that the particular member is somewhat out of touch, or that the decision has already been made they just didn't know it wasn't 'made publicly' yet.

Look at those Surnames, 3 names that if you asked Joe on the street who they were he probably would be able to associate them with Aust Rugby...sad.... Ive spent over 20 year doing business in Japan & I know that Smithsan is a very very luck man.

What's going on with Nick Jooste?
Wasn't he in the Squad or something, he was in the 10's squad and looked pretty good. Likely a better prospect than Teti Tela or Lachlan Maranta.
