I think the main question on everyone's lips at the MCA v IONA game was who the HELL was Gigantor the reserve from Iona with 25 on his back that came on (very) late? Obviously new to rugby and looked very raw but Jesus, he deadset blocked out the sun. Hopefully a club coach recruits him somewhere, remembering Rory Arnold only started playing when he was 20.

Knowing that there is a strong attraction to Rugby League for a lot of boys who attend AIC Schools and play Club League instead of Rugby - it was interesting to note that there was not 1 x AIC boy selected out of the Top 40 boys selected

Did schools not allow boys to trial ?

I note only Padua's Danny Heenan made either team last year ( the White Team )

Note : A lot of these boys who participated - especially in the Met West, East and North teams - maybe even South Coast - will likely roll up again for the Rugby Schools tournament , and so , the League tournament is a reasonable barometer for how the Rugby tournament will go

Not really AIC related but South Coast beat Sunny Coast in the u18 Rugby Union at the weekend. Both these teams are traditional finalists at the 18s so this was really no surprise. What was a surprise though was that Met North didn't have enough players from there own region to fill a 23 man squad. They played the tournament under the name 'Chairman's XV' drawing on a number of players who didn't make either the South Coast and Met East sides.

On an additional note the CSS team thatll play at the QLD trials should be half decent.

Rory Arnold started playing rugby at age 20 but played rugby league as a youngster. You might be confusing raw for lack of skill

Aic 2017 round three predictions: IONA VS PADUA
1st XI: Iona are coming off a loss to ashgrove the week prior and are missing alot of impact players due to injury. Although Iona showed some prospect during the ashgrove game, Padua is just one they never seem to be able to grasp. although, the boys will be looking to make an impact on old boys day in the first game of the season at home ground. prediction: IONA-15 PADUA-24

2nd XI: The IONA seconds team is looking strong this year with lots of experience being contained within it. Max barber, joel norris, bailey adams and callum mcdonald are just some to name a few. But with the first team suffering heavy blows i predict some of these boys stepping up to the first team for some game time. With a full squad i would predict that the seconds would go close against padua this week, but these losses could effect them greatly and it could go either way. prediction IONA-14 Padua-19

3rds XI: This IONA team is one you cant really predict. They have the impact players needed to win games but the squad is so big i dont know if the boys get utilised enough. I was watching the MCA vs IONA 3rds game and the number 8 has alot of guts with some nice runs. This padua team was not really performing like a typical padua side early on in the season but id expect the training to start paying off late in the season. the Padua squad has skill and size but the IONA lads this weekend will be looking for a win on old boys day at the first game on home turf. Prediction IONA-21 Padua-5

4ths XI- Now this 4ths side for Iona is something to watch. The Iona boys are undefeated this season with surprising wins against ASHGROVE AND PATS. Alot of guts is shown within the side and the backline is very threatening. Forwards also show alot of courage and get the job done. Padua 4ths were victorious within the trail games but with late season prospects coming into the iona side like the new flanker/number 8 and alot of confidence coming off a win against Ashgrove, this is the only IONA team where the odds are on their side. prediciton: IONA-14 PADUA-12

Had the chance to get out to Runcorn last week for the good old SLC - VNC rivalry. A great game - very passionate schools and an outstanding standard of rugby. Got a glimpse at the 16A contest which was a heated game of rugby. The Villa 6 took the reigns, Gabriel Akkari, whether you're looking for offence or defence in a player - this kids got it all. Bumps off opponents at sheer pace in a bomb-like manner and is always on the watch for tight holes to hit. Defensively, its impossible to not find him at the breakdown as he continues to impress with some hard hitting tackles.

Villanova may have to provide Akkari with some sort of discount as he is big bait for the GPS powerhouses Nudgee, Terrace and Churchie who all desire to boost their forward packs and run for 2018. GT and Churchie have apparently already opened to their arms to the 15-year-old, but its hard to believe the word on the streets nowadays. If Terrace can reel in this prospect for 2018, they will have two former AIC players in their 2018 1st XV (reeled in Daniel Condon (inside centre) from Padua, 2014).

Will the standard and talent of AIC rugby survive with numerous GPS scouts using the competition as a recruiting pool?

Mate there is no rivalry in the AIC like the Marist vs St Peters rivalry. Expect a cracker of a game this weekend.

I have to agree with you there Geoffrey. Outstanding tactician - proving very valuable to the weak Villanova side. Also have to the note the outstanding performance of the #12 Lachie Littleton. Certainly living up to his hype, i expect to see big things from this key player in the coming weeks.

Good morning, Good evening and good night fellow AIC Members and Supporters and Schoolboy Rugby Enthusiasts,

What. A. Round.

VNC and SLC produced a spectacle that could only be seen to be believed. Villa had bodies on the line for the entirety of the fixture, stunning the Lauries Lions with two tries in quick succession in the early moments of the match. SLC’s College Captain, No.9, Billy Rutherford clearly demonstrated a phenomenal IQ of the game of Rugby Union. If it wasn’t for Billy and the Laurie’s Fullback, Lauries would have been as strong as a wet cornflake. However, Villa’s 1, 2 , 3, 4 , 5 , 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 produced some of the most exquisite football I have ever witnessed. As an AIC 1 selector I can confidently say that I would be delighted to have any player from the VNC side as part of the AIC 1 team. A few bung calls by the referee costed Villa its chances of taking out the battle. On the contrary, if conversions were at a successful rate for the Wildcats, a win would have been inevitable,

Well said Big J - all the best with the rest of your lunchbreak game of handball. The match report is very accurate though. Interesting to see how Villa go on the road up at Eddies, it can be anything up there and Lauries on the road to Pat's, which can also be a hard place to win also. Any word if the lauries captain is right to play this week? It was noticeable when he came off the pack lost a bit of umph, 7 and 2 really stood up though, not sure if they had any other second rowers, his replacement looked like a winger.

St Pats vs St Lauries will be one the closest game of the round with both teams undefeated. Lauries will need to improve after a lackluster affair at runcorn against villa. St Pats also in need of improvement after a near upset at Peters in a match that came down to the last 10 minutes before Pats pulled away.

Prediction: Lauries by 7

If the Ashgrove fullback doesn't fire this week, I think we should expect the Lauries 15 to be playing fullback for AIC 1.

SLC #15 is a gun! Zac Steer. Have seen a few games this season and he has just about been best on field every time. Played all over the MCA 15 in a trial earlier on. And can kick. Played for QLD Sevens team last year??? Don't quote me on that... second hand info. Good luck to him.
