He quit after he got told the breakfast show was being replaced. I know ppl who know Marty Sheargold & he was head hunted in sep/oct of 2021 & Nova asked him to finish up at the end of the week this was before Eddie & Darcy knew the show was to finish. When they got told Eddie chose to leave. He still had a job at mmm if he wanted just not his show.

He wouldn't do a great job he has zero understanding of the landscape of world rugby
You don’t need someone that knows world rugby. We need someone who will advocate for what’s in Australia’s best interests. We need someone who will look to grow the game here aggressively and won’t be beholden to the internal politics

Right because that's served us so well in the past hasn't it? Super Rugby is practically dead domestically. We should care about 1 other union, NZRU only.

If he gets the gig then Eddie McGuire could be a guest on Eddie Jones’ podcast, Eddie, if it returns. Pemby may struggle with all the Eddie’s though.

Or would Eddie launch a rival Eddie podcast?

The club was broke when he took over uncompetitive on the field at its lowest ebb and he rebuilt it into the financial powerhouse it is today. They also turned it around on the field breaking the drought in 2010 and making 4 other GFs and 4 prelims. They had 9 top four finishes in 22 seasons. The reason Collingwood is the dominant brand in the AFL is down to Ed.

He would bring in a lot of sponsors dollars with his business connections as well.
Good for him. He’s a shit bloke.

Yeah, Rugby should want someone who's not afraid to shake the tree, but not someone who can be a form of controversy entirely on their own. Eddie can be a distraction RA can't afford. It worked for Collingwood in Melbourne because it builds up local rivalries If the CEO of the Gold Coast Suns carried on like him you would just think he's a clown.

The similarities between Joyce and JON are several.

He has left the reputation of QANTAS, once a beloved national symbol, in tatters.

Joyce has also left QANTAS with a massive opex and capex mountain to climb. He is a balance sheet and p&l musketeer that carves out profitability but is the opposite of what we need in my opinion, which is long term stewardship.

Driving revenue in such a competitive landscape whilst also continuing to invest in the base/roots would have to be one of the most challenging assignments any Chief executive could face, IMO.

Rugby in Australia is in a position where it can be killed quickly both by mishandling the finances or by letting the soul of the sport whither by neglecting its people on the ground. AFL/NRL would need both of those things to happen simultaneously and for an extended period to be eradicated from national consciousness entirely.

Choosing a CEO will be a punt either way because there's no one presently who could walk in both worlds immediately. I have no suggestions.

Just get Pridam, took over when the Swans were reigning premiers and has just spent years crying about the loss of the cost of living rort. The blokes a flog who’s achieved nothing
The Swans are one of the most disadvantaged teams in the comp, I'd complain too. Every minor concession they get is chipped away (same as the other northern clubs) Obviously a Victorian wouldn't like him because he challenged the typical Vic hegemony at two different clubs.

The biggest thing RA needs to determine is whether they are looking for a manager or a figurehead. If McLennan is planning to continue in the role the way he currently is then they should be after a manager.

In my view even if they hire someone who is going to be more of a figurehead then that person shouldn't be tasked with having a visionary idea for where RA heads. Strategic decision making should come from far more than just one person at the top. If we're reliant on one person determining the path to success we're never going to succeed.

You don’t know the AFL.

Clubs can and do provide rental accommodation for relocating players so the “the cost of housing is more expensive” is just a cop out to gain a competitive advantage.

On top of that AFL players can afford to buy property. Over the last decade the housing market in Sydney out performed any of the other capitals by roughly 10%. So when you are off your rookie deal and you buy a place it’s financially advantageous to live in Sydney. Especially when you consider a player drafted to a Perth club would have achieved negative growth on their asset.

Also when AFL players buy a house they get furnished by sponsors and clubs will pay board to players to let their spare rooms to rookie players. Helping them pay off their mortgage.

On top of that Sydney is the most lucrative market to live in as an AFL player as you have brand recognition in the AFL states but also Sydney increasing your marketability and your worth.

But no let’s just give them an extra 10% in their cap so they can buy players such as Buddy.
