McGregor was called in after Jackson-Hope was red-carded against NZ Barbarians Schools and couldn't play against NZ.

http://goo.gl/wIO5GU

If I remember correctly he came on the field at the end of the "test match" and played fullback.

Hugh Jarse - can we rely on your excellent writing and knowledge of the Aus Schools' scene to do another preview article of the national championships ??
.

That's right LG. All players on the bench in that game got on the field at some stage in the game.

Correct re Vics, squad has been extended to include some additional players. Looks like it is to increase competition amongst spots and cover for a few injuries that are cropping up. My understanding is that some of the players that don't make the final 23 will be offered to Tasmania to help fill their squad.

Big game in the local schools comp this weekend that might come into play for selections, St Kevin's (1st) v St Pat's (2nd).

Good to see a Victorian included in the ACT squad as well.

Anyone seen Jamie Kotz from Canberra College play for Brumbies U20? I heard he is only 17 and been playing in the ACT side for a while and dominating Junior Gold cup. If he's as good as they say then I can totally see him as the starting 11 for the Aus schools side this year.

With Sepesa Loga Tarogi at 14 and Brisbane Boys College superstar Jayden Ngamanu at fullback, this would be a powerhouse outside backline.

Happy to Chat

Nev Cottrell (35)
Youth Sevens player Dylan Riley plays outside centre, they say he's pretty quick.

Simon Kenewell Youth Sevens player also plays centre I think. There are a few that could put their hand up.

Brumbies had a monster playing at 13 in one of their trial teams at the weekend against Vic.

The game ended up with ACT running out in front by 2-3 tries, both teams were good in patches and held ball quite well. ACT had a few more numbers that showed at the end (Vic had 1 reserve back and a few injuries).

Coaches from both would be happy for having a run and getting some sort of cohesion and selections sorted out.

Jamie Kotz finished school last year at St Edmunds. He did play ACT and Aus Barbarians Under 20s this year. Is still in his U18 year but has turned 18. He is playing first grade for Gungahlin Eagles in John I Dent cup. He was injured at the U20 nationals playing for Australian Barbarians but made his first grade debut for the Eagles round 7 against Easts and scored two tries. He has 5 tries from 5 JID matches and captained the U18 ACT 7s side at nationals. He is part of the Australian 7s squad who were in camp in Sydney over the weekend and is in line for selection in the Youth Commonwealth Games team. He is not eligible for school boy rugby but still has a couple more chances to make the U20 Australian side as he only turned 18 this year.
