Sad Bank missed it for Maddox. AAA And Thor will make a might second half scrum..

I do like Maddocks on the pine. It will be interesting to see what he can do outside some quality inside backs.
With Hodge and DHP starting we have more than adequate cover at 15.
Banks time will come. Both are very exciting prospects.
Not losing much with Robertson if anything. He has been doing very well land Sio falters occasionally at scrum time. Our reserve front row is very strong.

Maddocks verse banks is a strange one. Close battle but id have gone Banks on form and defence.

I suppose Maddocks got the nod in that he travelled with the Wallabies on the spring tour last year

Maddocks covers more positions according to cheika. and that's what got him over the line. Though they both play FB and wing I'm not sure of the logic. Neither have played in the centres and To'omua is covering 10........sooooo yeh

Sio out is a big blow......... I'm sure AAA has been training at LH for the Wobs this year but it's been a long time since he actually played there, and while he was impressive in that position in Super Rugby all those years ago I'm not overly confident he's going to dominate there on the weekend.

Banks is extremely unlucky - he's been one of the standout outside backs in the latter half of the season, and his form in the trial should've been that little bit extra that put him on the bench for this weekend.

Otherwise, the team is pretty much as expected.

Totally agree on 7As (Allan Ala'alatoa), S293. The only one of the four props selected who's specialised on one side's Tupou. As a former back and admitting ignorance of the dark arts of the front row this mucking about with props' numbers quite bemuses me. I've watched Scott and Allan since they played under 9s with my young bloke and, if I could suggest, CHOOSE A SIDE AND LEAVE THEM THERE. Same with Robertson.

No Todd and no interest in Mo'unga meant that Goodhue vs Lienert-Brown and J.Barrett vs Naholo were the only real points of interest. I thought they'd be conservative again and stick with Lienert-Brown, but am glad to see Goodhue starting. To use a Dismalism, a Conrad-esque tenure could be dawning for him. He has the benefit of continuing his Crusaders pairing with Crotty, so really needs to set out and dominate the midfield against a second (third?) string utility back.

With Milner-Skudder's drop off in form, J.Barrett or Naholo was, as already alluded to, a sucky flip of a coin scenario. On the one hand you get an out of form fullback whose been stuck in the midfield lately. On the other hand you get a relapse of 2009 PTSD. But the Wallabies aren't the most threatening side off the boot, so maybe it's the better call in this situation. I'd be having an aneurysm if it was against Ireland.

On the Beaugen. He effectively has that Crusaders Rolls-Royce pack in front of him. The pack that made Mo'unga's life so easy in Super Rugby, according to the Hutt. Barrett now has that platform, and with Madman Retallick thrown in for good measure. He better perform, as the only way for his position to otherwise remain tenable is down to failures in forward coaching.

Bring it on you waltzing Matilda's.

EDIT: And these front row injuries are becoming a real nuisance. As far as I know both Perry and Sheriff Karl are dedicated looseheads, and tighhead scrummaging is more challenging than loosehead scrummaging. So there could be a real danger of late game scrums being uncontested on safety grounds.

Karl T played at tighthead in the Game of 3 Halves last weekend and has been training at tighthead the last few weeks.

Based on available tickets should be a pretty good crowd

Excuse me sir, I'm pretty sure you muppets can find another THP floating around. You want uncontested scrums because you decided to switch a LHP to THP rather than picking another specialist? What is this Betoota U12s or some shit? I suppose it's all hunky dory that we are playing a THP at LHP though.

I never said I wanted uncontested scrums, hence "there's a real danger"..... But, as has been pointed out, it appears that Sheriff Karl has been training there, and he's a big lump o'tache, so we'll see how it goes. I only mentioned it because it may arise on the grounds of safety. More likely is Franks is going to have to do a bit more than his regular 50 minute shift.

When was the last time we actually saw uncontested scrums in a test match?
