Neither the BBL or Fast4 are any less complex then the traditional versions, just shorter and faster

I'm not sure if a team concept, outside of countries, would work in tennis. It's a sport where you follow personalities so if "your team" picks a guy you don't like it might make you question you allegiances. It would be interesting to see how they develop the teams too. Are they regional teams or just generic names.

I like a guy like Djokovic but he seems to be the bad guy in most peoples eyes when he plays Federer. Would people change their point of view for a concept that lasts a couple of weeks? I don't think so.

Who wouldn't cheer for Broad if he signed up for your BBL franchise as an example?

Oh well, at least there were more people at Allianz than Eden Park (and again today, I'd say). Just gotta hope that the 36K who rocked up & the 55K who tuned in yesterday go forth & evangelise. Also that with the 9's now finished & Straya in the 7's Final today's numbers will be better...........

No cricket on either. Today's numbers will be much better I'd say

True, but once I got home I was going back & forth between the ODI & 7's, I'm guessing plenty of others would've done likewise (today I've been mostly on the 7's but switching over for the Warriors games).

Good to see the ratings pick up on day 2. It was a great tournament. Almost doubling day 1. Sometimes I really don't understand the league crowd. I flicked to the Nines in between games and caught a couple and have to say in terms of everythingthat matters the 7s were vastly superior. Skills, speed and quality of entertainment. All 7s. I've watched previous 9s tournaments but when given the chance side by side 7s was so much better.

^^^^^^^ yup. In my house there's two leaguies (wife & nephew) so I had to time-share the remote & guess what? After a few minutes of the nines I'd suddenly remember that I had something terribly important to do........... until it was time for NZ/ SA/ Fiji/ Straya's next game in the 7's :)

That said I'd still love for NZRU to ask Shaun Johnson what it'd take $-wise to get him playing 7's...............

Even allowing for some average D, that's one freakin' awesome try & he's got plenty more like it on his highlights reel.

(recent sevens convert) I was curious how the nines would compare so turned over a few times.

Man, the absolute worst thing (for me) about league was still there in the nines. Surely in the game you want to speed up you would enforce the letter of the law 'the tackler must release the tackled player immediately' (at least that was the rule back in my day, maybe they changed it).

nope, even in the nines they lay all over the player to slow the game down.

if that is the mindset, why the fuss about speeding the game up?

The 9s is really just like the 13 man game with less players and worse defence. Very one dimensional.

Fortunately we're all Rugby fans at my place so I got to have it on the TV all day. Used the Foxtel Go app to tune into the 9s from time to time. Didn't bother with for long.

The 9's is also not played by specialist players. They're all guys preparing for a season of regular rugby league who maybe practice 9's specific strategies for a week or two. That, and the fact there's only a 30% difference in numbers of players compared to normal rugby league makes it very similar. 9's is a lot more comparable to rugby 10's than 7's.
