Interational travellers welcome to Australia if double vaxxed - Morrison.
Interational travellers welcome to Victoria if triple vaxxed - Dan Andrews.

Anyone else sense the stench of confusion and politicking amongst the health advisors and politicians?

There’s no confusion because you’re being rather loose with the truth, again…

For clarity, Andrews has only stated that ATAGI are likely to change the definition of fully vaxxed to mean 3 jabs, and when they do it may apply to international visitors arriving in Australia.

Since 2020. Mainly because the Feds were treating it like... I dunno, bushfires, aged care, immigration, and a bunch of other things they don't care about.

"Loose with the truth" eh?
Lets roll the tape:
Compare Prime Minister Scott Morrison said after new medical advice, the new border rules would come into place on February 21.

"The condition is you must be double vaccinated to come to Australia," he said.
Mr Morrison said the government's definition was that people need to have a full course of a vaccine, which in most cases is two doses but for some international vaccines is only one, to be considered vaccinated.
(ABC News Monday arvo)

And Contrast: Daniel Andrews has given notice to international travellers hoping to visit Victoria to be triple-dosed or face being locked out of life in the state
The Premier detailed the switch on Tuesday while, saying the redefinition of fully-vaccinated will also apply to travellers when it does to Victorians.

“As far as those who get into the country, and the circumstances in which they get into the country, I think we’ve well established (third dose protocols),” he said.
(News.com, Tuesday arvo)

TL;DR - I'm right. In the space of 24 hours the PM and Dan made contradictory statements.

The unvaccinated in Australia make up about only 5% of the population which is world leading. To be unvaccinated whilst I think it is foolish we do allow freedom of choice and that includes freedom to do dumb stuff.

However you will run into the unvaccinated at the supermarket, on trains, at the football etc you will never know it’s not like they have to wear yellow stars.

So FFS we are arguing about double vs triple vaccinated international visitors. Also how much trusted do you place in some countries vaccine passports it’s not like they are on some international database like passports, a twelve year could photoshop one in less than 5 minutes for you.

Just another illogical COVID related decision.

As politicians look for the COVID off ramp they will continue to make these dumb illogical decisions because there is no way to do it without admitting restrictions went way overboard for 2 years and they know many voters who suspended their lives will never ever be capable of accepting of their mistake.

Those news headlines sound pretty dramatic… seem bereft of potential decisions pending from ATAGI and national cabinet.

Another classy holocaust comparison…

Not headlines, Slim.
Direct quotes. The result of politicking with "the science".

This is a headline:

Daniel Andrews clashes with federal government over third vaccine dose for international arrivals.

It's time to drop all mask mandates, travel bans, mandatory vaccinations, talk about mandatory booster shots, shop closures, and distancing requirements.
It's time to allow community rugby to start up without crowd restrictions and let Super Rugby run a normal season.
It's time to stop with the fear inducing hysteria of our ruling classes and live our usual lives whilst looking after the most at-risk members of our community.
Why?
the death rate from Omicron is 0.1 per cent, 99.9 per cent of people who have contracted it survive, and we are approaching 2 million in the last month that we know about, and probably more that have contracted it that have not been diagnosed.
Federal Chief Medical Officer Dr Paul Kelly
(ABC News, Thurs 3rd Feb 2022)

It's time.

I agree, to an extent.

It will be great to switch off and relax but it shouldn't be at the expense of preparation and vigilance for the inevitable winter surge and mutation. Hopefully disease severity remains similar to its current level.

BH, FF (Folau Fainga'a) et al. It really is meaningless imo to compare hospital and fatality rates across the various versions of Covid19, and to draw a conclusion that Omicron is less severe than Delta or any of the other variants.

Raw figures show a different story. In terms of total number of hospitalisations, ICU admissions and deaths, Omicron is much more severe than Delta and the others. It is just a political ploy in my view for Omicron to be considered a low risk. I think the push to "reopen the economy" has led to the story being manipulated the way it has been. And yet, we hear on a daily basis just how successful Australia has been in keeping the economy going over the span of the pandemic.

Instead of looking at rates per numbers of cases, let's look at rates per population to get a true picture of the extent and severity of the different versions.

This is absolutely incorrect. It is far less lethal than Delta.

Rates of each metric per the number of cases is entirely relevant.

It is not a push to reopen the economy as much as it is a desire to let people resume their normal lives. A very large percentage of the population is vaccinated and at a very low risk of suffering severe disease from catching COVID.

The elderly and the immuno-compromised will always be at significant risk of COVID. The challenge is managing that.

And we should manage it like we did influenza - stay the fuck at home if you're sick.

How many elderly people died from respiratory diseases prior to covid due to a visit from a relative with nascent cold symptoms? We didn't track that. How many offices were laid waste by that employee who thought they were so important they'd come in sick?

I was fucking weary of COVID about 6 months ago. We've cleared the hump, we've got our science in order, and we're ready to be adults again.

Dead right BH. The case fatality rate for COVID in Australia has continued to trend lower since September and accelerated in Dec/Jan:. It current stands at 0.155%. That's among the lowest in the developed world.
