Melbourne Rebels 2024

It's behind a paywall ... in part: "
The chairman of Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby club Paul Docherty is the director of 10 companies that have lost at least $70 million.

The Harvard Business School graduate is also the club’s major sponsor, raising questions about the Rebels’ future.

Insiders claim the Rebels was considering handing back its licence to Rugby Australia because it could not pay its bills, including up to $1 million owed to AAMI Park where it plays."
Oddly funny how they've emphasized his alma mater here, as if a 2 year gentleman's course in networking makes an alumnus incapable of poor decisions.

Regardless of the issue of remuneration (it 100% sounds like there's enough independent specialist work that there should be a paid component) but surely this is something that they should be working with La Trobe on as part of a Data/Sports Science, or Film & Television/Communications Education rather than throwing out into the general public to see what they can get?

You sound like a millennial. Probably screw up your “work / life balance” too I would guess.

No, I sound like a professional with many years industry experience who recognises this as a major red flag:

That’s quite a job description for an unpaid volunteer…

I would not advise anyone to take that up when you can get a similar entry level position in other professional sporting or broadcast organisations for at least $30p/h.

Professional sports clubs?
Yep all the AFL clubs relied on volunteers all the way up until the covid season in game day roles and they still have a network of volunteers working in talent identification.

I get it is hard for the Rebels to find volunteers as their network is so much smaller

All the AFL clubs have professional media units who do the work the Rebels are asking for…

I believe even at QPR level, there is a paid (casual) pool of individuals who code footage prior to it being upload to Hudl. While they're employed by Double Take, you'd think that's the minimum expectation.
