Went to a conference recently. Read about it here:

Biggest takeaway: Networks are now realising consumers matter, and they can't hold them at arm's length behind a Retailer agreement.
The most interested parties were WA, SA, and NT, who have issues with tyranny of distance, and tenuous or nonexistent links to the big network in SE Australia.
There was a bit of chat from Tasmania, where Reposit are already doing some good work (Google
Bruny Island Reposit)
It was fucking awesome, hanging around people who know their shit, know where they're going, and are unencumbered by rubbish internal politics and general top heaviness.
And of course, out hitting the piss with them afterwards, as well as not paying for any of it
Kind of depressing, now that I'm back in the land of the Corporate Fucktard.
I really have no idea how I'd get into the industry either, you need any or all of the following:
1) Engineering qualifications
2) Decent contacts
3) A shitload of experience to get a job that would keep my household stable.
I'll keep plugging away at the website and twitter in the meantime.
