Blaise Barnes is a rugby union prodigy that has been inundated with offers to play in the NRL. Please ARU, get the finger out a find a Super Rugby club for this guy. No disrespect to the League, but we need to keep stars like this or he could become another Cooper Cronk or Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Wow - I am impressed with your knowledge of Sydney schools' rugby living where you do.

Yeah I always thought Blaise Barnes and Tom Wright from the Joeys school last year would be top-notch Sevens players. We have already lost Tom to our code and I hope Aussie Sevens have made an approach for Blaise though he is still at school.

His was a cruel injury in the trials this year so I hope the young man is bearing up and gets back to full capacity whatever his footie future.

Is that an authentic Shore pie?

It's an imposter @QH. While its pleasing to the eye it's true origins are French provincial. Burgundy to be exact. So it would be properly classified as an irregularity or import and so banished to the room service menu of the Hotel California.

The French stole the family recipe from well known Shore Mum Mitzy Barrington-Smythe and passed it off as their own.

You might see it as "whinging at refs" but I am an independent, my sons don't play against Joeys, I highly rate the Joeys rugby

it is the school that I am having a bit of a subtle crack at
I have seen high profile sports photographers escorted off the Joeys pitch, as they didn't get the pre-approval
in the old days the Joeys ball boys were coached to do certain things .
anyway on the issue of refs and bias .
there is always going to be some bias when a ref only referees at one ground . and Joeys is certainly not alone in having only the top 3 grades being externally appointed
when a referee knows he has to pitch up (to the same ground) the next week, of course it might be a factor (in the back of his mind)
plus it's schoolkids that are refereeing, and being boarders there is no hiding from your match .. so I get it .
anyone my point is outside referees talk about how "closed shop" Joeys is with their refereeing . the school should be embracing the referee coaching more (I haven't seen it happening?), and like a lot of schools could benefit from having more fixtures done externally . particularly the A fixtures
anyway I know Joeys does have some excellent referees aswell . but if ever there was a school that could be less "closed shop" it should be Joeys
they will still dominate, no 2 ways about it
Thanks for the insight SDW, i had no idea, thought all the refs were external.

I have you know Azzuri, young Andrew Barrington is a very fine back rower in the fifths. He is pushing hard for a spot in the fourths.

I would like, my friend but I just shared what I saw in a European website. Some users said that could be just an "advertisement" by his father or manager but if you say that the boy is good then I believe you

I'll keep an eye out for him @NIS when Kings play Shore. It's likely he will be the only backrower running around in Bruno Magli boots?

Charlie Mannix has been seen at Newington season launch function 2 Fridays back and was at last weeks Kings game. Told me he was having a run for Sydney Uni. (Aussie Rules !) Understood he had been approach by ARU to be part of the U20s squad.

Great work on the review Crackerjack.
Good to see you haven't got caught up in the Azzuri hype and been swayed by indignant Newington supporters assuring us it's all still OK.
I think you are spot on Riverview and Scots by a handful and Joeys by atleast a bakers dozen.
Will have the humble pie nice and warm for Saturday evening....just hope I don't have to consume too much myself.

When you say win by handful how many points are we talking?

The question I often hear asked is "So you can get a team list in advance for colts, grade, super rugby etc, why not schoolboys". It's a very good question and one I have pondered frequently.
I agree with your analysis about the strategic reasons for withholding team lists, but I think it's more about policy and philosophy of AAGPS sport.
IIRC, GPS headmasters stipulated a long time ago that the game is all about a contest between teams and they don't want individuals given the added pressure of publicity and scrutiny.
Schoolboy sport was meant to be an opportunity to develop physically and create team-orientated young men. Publishing team lists in advance of the game brings an unhealthy focus on specific players.
Well that's the theory anyway.

When you look at other schoolboy sports worldwide: gridiron, ice hockey, soccer, I would argue the Sydney schools have done a great job achieving this. At Joeys there is rarely discussion of signings, payments or other incentives offered that you regularly see in other countries.
It is far healthier for the young men this way, there's plenty of time for the corporate treadmill later in life.
